Watch your credit card accounts

I just had a go round with Chase Bank regarding an increase in my low interest rate I had gotten on a special offer. When I accepted the offer, I called their offices to make sure about the dates to receive payment, so that I could arrange an auto payment, thereby never being late. There used to be a due date for each month...if you look carefully, there is now an Open/Closing Date....your payment must arrive during that period of time, not before, not after.

I knew that if you were late, even once, your interest rate escalates dramatically. What I failed to notice and what I was not told in that phone call is that the payment could not arrive early, or it would be counted for the month previous, even if another payment had already been received. Thereby making two payments in the one month and "allowing" them to increase your interest % rate and charge a late fee. In this case they increased my interest rate by 8% and charged me $39 late fee...plus, if I had not double checked, I would have been late again, assuming the payment had been made automatically. I did find a account executive who reversed things for me, after I pointed out my long term standing with them and the fact that banks are not in a position right now to p-ss off their customers, imo.

Due to the nature of our current economic beast, procedures might be changing with your payment cards, etc. Maybe this has been going on a long time, but this is the first time I have encountered it. If you have seniors in your family, you might give them an extra hand with their bills to double check that none of this type of thing is happening to them. When my Mom lived with me, they used to double bill her and I always had to check her medical bills in particular.

Anyone else encounter a new procedure or change which we can share?

Chase Devil

Chase are pests. They have continued to mail me credit card offers to me for years now. I know that you can call an 800 # to be removed from credit card offers, but I want to see how long Chase takes to get the hint I don't want there stupid credit card. I have two credit cards and always have the monthly balance automatically paid off. So far no problems with my auto payments. The reason why I even obtained the credit cards was to repair my damaged credit so that I could qualify for a zero down 30 year fixed rate mortgage. I had done extensive research and opening new credit cards was one of the quickest and best ways to raise your credit rating. It is ironic that it was credit cards that I allowed to damage my credit. Live by credit and die by credit. Everything else I purchase I pay cash for. The only car I own is 15 years old and was paid with cash. You can definately buy good used cars that are still reliable if you are patient and bargain shop. If I cannot afford something I don't buy it. If I was rich I could afford to build my own home and obviously wouldn't need a mortgage. Also, I started receiving calls from numbers originating from Chase. I now block these numbers.

Warning For Senior Citizens!

Please pay attention to Paulette's warning to help senior family members check out their bills! I am a senior, and I am continually receiving 'bills' for magazines I did not order, BOOKS sent to me as if I had ordered them, etc!
My 90 year old mother signed a 'free' check she had been sent, and she had unknowingly signed up for automatic billing for something.
Preying on senior citizens is of epidemic proportions!

When my Mom lived with me

I began checking her bills when I found out she paid whatever came in. Anyone's bill! Some of her medical billings were ones that hadn't been reviewed by insurance yet, and she paid the full amount. Just trying getting it back without a fight. She liked to pay right away, and so they would get her payment and send her another bill back immediately. She'd pay it. When I finally caught on to what was happening, it took quite a few phone calls to get things straightened out. It's bad enough when they deliberately try to add fees, etc. to anyone's invoice, but you are so right preying on seniors is now of epidemic proportions.

IT'S DOABLE

Alpacas - IT'S DOABLE

A senior friend of mine

Was DONATING money to Republicans, charities, etc. She spent hours each day reading mail, writing checks, cutting up sensitive information with scissors.
Her family had quite a time handling the situation. She is still in her right mind, but the mailings would make her feel important, and that she just had to donate---they were counting on her!
One mailing I got (among a LOT like this) informed me: Because of my superior excellence as a community leader---I was INVITED to become a member of the Presidential Council of 'Something or other', and as a member, I would be invited to EXCLUSIVE dinners in DC, etc.Of course this was accompanied by a gold certificate I could frame and hang on my wall!
The membership would have cost me ONLY $5000.00 per year!

you have to

set up your auto pay to pay *weekly* not monthly. and you have to do it so that 3 out of your 4 payments per month is greater than your monthly minimum due.

so, say your monthly minimum is $90 you would set up auto pay so that it sends at least $31 every week.

This is the only way to avoid credit card trickery.

I asked someone else for advice for my friend and he told me two options to look into

FDRS is advertised a lot on the Republic Broadcasting Network(which is pro-Ron Paul).

Then there is this site
http://www.outin90.com/
They also have been advertised on the Republic Broadcasting Network, but I've not seen anything negative about them yet doing an internet search. Wondering if anyone has used this site and what their experience was like?

"they" can do this because

the credit card industry is COMPLETELY unregulated and answerable to no one.........

again, shame on "us" for buying into "their" lies

You're all Unpatriotic

All of you saying cut up and don't use your credit cards.

Don't you know that credit is what keeps our economy moving along? Without credit being infused into the economy we wouldn't be seeing those steady 2~3% inflation, er I mean growth! yes growth! rates?

It's only fair and patriotic that we do our part to chip in. The Government of the U.S. has provided us with a great example. If they can do it and get away with it, why shouldn't the folks on Main Street? Borrow I say, borrow until it hurts!

OK, [/sarcasm].

If they can't get it from credit, they'll raid our 401Ks

This is unbelievable.

We the People actually have to scramble and fight to keep the government from stealing from us.

What does it take to wake people up?

Deja vu - This happened to me

They ding your credit rating as well. Chase is evil.

I got fed up, and transfered the balance to a better card, and now have a $35 finance fee, for financing zero dollars for a month. I suppose I will have to call and argue, but I am not hopeful. In the end I will probably close out the card, which will hurt my credit rating again.

Do not get a credit card with Chase, and if you have one switch it.

OMG...when you try to get out, they fine you out the wazoo

When I started the process of pulling my accounts from Bank of America, they could tell and suddenly all sorts of fees and penalties popped up.

Some I fought, some I didn't...I just wanted to get away from their greedy policies.

We 'vote' with our money

Only when we stop financing the big corporate banks and their activities can we regain our power.

Doesn't matter if you are late or not . . .

The interest rate on all my business credit cards got jacked. I have never been late in 5 years. My complaints didn't help. One card has an interest rate of 5.99%, I've had this card forever, I've used this card to finance inventory and low-end assetts, because the rate was lower than a bank line of credit. The interest rate on this card has now been jacked and will only stay frozen at 5.99% if I don't use it.

It is a bit easier to get rid of credit cards for personal use. But how do you get around it when you own a business?

Better to just pay them all off

No debt is the best bet.

Get a second or third job if you have to.

Cancel cable, cell phones, etc. to buck up some extra cash.

Sell so much stuff, your kids will think they are next.

Yes, I'm paraphrasing Dave Ramsey.

I bought one of his books used for $7, followed his plan, and paid of about off all my debt except for my mortgag and I'm jumping on it like a spider monkey!

sons car seized by chase

My son had a credit card debt with Chase for $13,000. Even though he owned two houses they could have slapped a lien on, they showed up at 1am with a warrent and took his only car: The weird thing was when I read the warrent all it had was a judegment for the amount of the debt. I told him to call all the congressmen and let them know what these bastards are doing. He is going down to the courthouse to see what he can do. Any comments, or suggestions?

Sounds like

they got it signed by there buddies at the court house. Where was the court hearing. They cant take it without due process. Sue the judge and the bank

I don't see how Chase can

I don't see how Chase can take your son's car simply because they had a judgment for the debt. Especially considering that credit card debt is generally unsecured. Did your son own the car or was he financing it?

...

He owned the car

If it was being financed by a bank or someone else they would have had the title and they could not have taken it. I'm waiitng to hear from him. I am willing to bet they set a court date and either he did not show or they never notified hIm. I know if you don't show up for court you get the judgement. Usually you can make arrangements to pay something monthly, but I would think there would have to be a court date to discuss what they could or could not seize. My son said he read that they cannot take a vehicle if its your only one. Which leads me to believe that if he had shown up in court the Judge would never have let them take the car. Although nothing would surprise me anymore. This systm is so fucking corrupt its disgusting. What really burns me is that we the tax payor just bailed these bastards out, and now they are going to take our property too? I hope I don't have another grandchild, I know it will be born with shackles on its wrists, and ankles.

Chase sucks, worst customer service of any credit card company

Chase sucks, they have the worst customer service of any credit card company. If you have a problem on your card, its ALWAYS your fault. They NEVER do anything to help you. They're customer service center is in New York and you can tell by the total dicks you end up dealing with. Trust me, go with another company. Any company, I have discover card and US Bank and both have what I consider excellent customer service. Oh and Chase always gave me shitty balance raises, my US Bank card raised my limit thousands of dollars, from 5k to 8k. Chase raised my limit 200, from 1000 to 1200 LOL. As soon as a started dealing with this one dickhead on the phone at chase who blamed me for charges I did not want on my card and would not offer me a new card or make sure the charges were never billed again, I canceled it. I would advise all to do the same.

I can't believe everything we have been going through

and people can't live without their credit card. Get theropy or something you have an addiction. I haven't had a cradit card since 1991. And I was in college when they tricked me into taking those. This country will never win against the banks if you can't break the addiction to plastic. It will become your master and it will rule over you if you do not stop using them. If people who are on Daily Paul can't stop their addiction how do we get the rest of america to stop theirs. Looks like alot of people are going to bow down to the beast. These are some sad days for our country. Stuff stuff stuff I want more stuff stufff stuff.

I had a business for 5 years and made my payroll just fine and never took out a loan. I started with 8000 dollars and when I had to touch that 8000 I closed up my business and got a job. Alot of people didn't understand why I did it. It took almost 3 years for these other guys who owned the same business I did to go under but they did. I left with my 8000 I started with. They went and got loans to keep their businesses going and in the end they not only lost what they started with but now had huge debt that a regular old job could never pay. They all filed bankruptcy and lost everything they had. Debt is not good it is evil and it will destroy your life. Cut up those cards and control yourself.

Accidentally late with Chase my first time in three years

and they told me to go to hell and slapped me with 28.99%. Screw Chase, they are the worst credit card company to deal with. Any one but Chase, trust me- you will be glad you did not.

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must. like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.-Thomas Paine

The R3volution requires action, not observation!!!!

LOL! Yeah, I'm sure Chase

LOL! Yeah, I'm sure Chase told you to "go to hell"... that's hilarious. It's your own fault.

hope for help

If you are hurting $$$ , try to do a small business of some sort ...Credit can be an issue with any business because you can make some $$$ but can also write off expenses that to the bank look like low income ...IF you own tools and can use them there you go ...credit card use is a last resort for must have tools or supplies but pay the balance EVERY month...BUSINESS deduct partial use of vehicle, home ,heat, electric, insurance, etc., that are legitimit usage...USE the perks..LIke the big boys ....
weee

I'd recommend scheduling ALL

I'd recommend scheduling ALL payments over the web, that way your bill will always be paid exactly when you want it paid.

That's what I tried to do

but got caught up in the fact that Chase's month does not start on the first and end the last day of that particular month. My main point was to alert people to the fact that banks/credit card companies are doing the equivalent of a bait and switch and one must be very aware. Credit that you can pay off....at a rate lower for a purchase that is inflating dramatically, can be a viable use of credit....for business purposes. Not to pay that new beaut Home Entertainment Center.

I've noticed an increase in these practices and while I don't believe in CC purchases and have very little debt, there are times it does make some sort of sense. Realize as layoffs become more rampant, health issues (for example) might need to be paid for somehow....and cards will be used as a necessity. Just be aware of all of shenanigans they might be willing to try. In Chase's defense, they did rectify things for me. Guess I should consider myself lucky. The minute that original interest rate goes over 2.99%, I will move the debt elsewhere, or pay it off.

IT'S DOABLE

Alpacas - IT'S DOABLE

They know they can get away with it

They don't really have to compete for our business because they know that the competition isn't really out there. The banks are a cartel and the Federal Reserve is their daddy who will bail them out of all the bad practices they make. I need to get a credit card in order to establish credit so that someday I can have a house (not any time soon) but I am having the most difficult time finding a company that would screw me over.

not true

If you pay your rent and bills on time for 2 years, have a job, and have a 20% down payment, you absolutely can get a mortgage. Check out Dave Ramsey, he has been telling people this for years. Don't believe that you "need" credit. I would be so much further ahead had I known about Ramsey before I got to college.

even small business owners?

because I have been getting turned down for 4 years now. It's frustrating. Unless you pay a whole bunch of taxes, you don't get credit.

i am no expert on business

all i can say is in the case of a mortgage for a home, you can do it by paying your bills on time and having 20% down. all it does is show that you are disciplined enough to save the money and you will not be completely leveraged into the home. the time is coming (SHOULD) when you need the traditional down payment, not the artificial wealth of a zero-down mortgage in this get-it-now, pay later society. again, this is what got us into this mess, living beyond our means.

What Mike is saying is true

I ran a small business for 23 years. It's a catch-22, because if you want to get a loan you have to not take so many deductions that it hurts your bottom line when you show your extortion confession forms (1040) to the bank for verification of income. Of course if you were really kicking ass in the business you wouldn't need a loan in the first place, now would you?

By the way, that Latin roots of the word mortgage are:

mort = death
-gage = pledge

mortgage = a "death pledge"
