This Movement needs a Party.
This movement needs an official Third Party. ONE official Third Party, not four weirdo ones that have no clue what they are doing. And we need it now---not two months before the next presidential election in 2012.
If that means we take over one of the existing flawed Third Parties and reform and reshape it in our image, then so be it.
If that means we create a brand new Third Party that espouses our views and has a rock-solid, 100% constitutionalist platform, then so be it.
I will no longer waste energy on threads about atheism vs. Christianity, Zeitgeist, the truth about 911, Democratic celebrities who pretend to care about civil liberties, and so on. We need to discuss this now, before the lifeblood of the movement drains away any more.

When Ron Paul was a Libertarian, the two major corporate parties would "bribe" (whatever) the leaders of the third parties, so third parties were one trick ponies, so to speak, politicians were vetted from outside the major two parties.. now it's different, now we have those who were from the major parties leading the third parties to no where. Cynthia McKinney was a Democrat, Bob Barr was a Republican, for example. The exception is Nader who never joined any party. He suggested registering "Decline to state party" or "independent of party' and removing oneself from the party circuit. Now they are seeking our vote, not taking our vote for granted.
Personally, I believe McCain and the neocons are running to lose the GOP off the map and deliver us to the global government of a new world order. Check out that politics1 third parties site... really facinating and great links, good info.

Does it matter?
Honestly, I love our good Dr., but, he said the best way to change the system is from within 1 of the 2 big parties, and he chose the Republican party a long time ago, after previously learning, the hard way, that 3rd party bias is too insurmountable to beat. Now that the dust has settled and he has been out of it for months, we will see if the strategy of changing the party from within will bear fruit or not on Nov. 4th. Trying to win the presidency failed, we know that, but will there be a bunch more Ron Paul republicans in congress resulting from this election? probably not.
We need a multi-pronged approach. A new party is a waste of available resources when we already have the Constitution party available to us, who welcomes us with open arms. If 3rd party is the deal, that's where I'll be, and it is the 3rd largest party. If we get a Ron Paul like republican to run for the nomination in 2012, then that's where I'll be. Honestly though, I don't think we have that long, so if that means I have to prepare for some of the worst contingencies and be ready to do my part, then that's where I'll be.
Hope for the best and go "peaceful this" and non-violent-that" and engage in some form of civil disobedience like the good Dr. says "but let it not be said that we did nothing." Still, I'd make sure that if you are able bodied and ready to engage the enemy if attacked, whomever that enemy is, once attacked, go where the action is or pick a spot and defend it, your choice.
My point is to cover all our bases, exhaust or dismiss no options available, and simultaneously work different angles if possible. Exploit all avenues that could lead to success, and don't put all our eggs in 1 basket.

No, Ron Paul is a Republican
No, Ron Paul is a Republican because it's worked for him so far, and he's a senior US Congressman. It's advantageous for him to stay in the party (although he also missed a great opportunity this year to make a mark in this fall's elections).
I don't have "fantasies" about Third Parties; I recognize a genuine need. I can assure you I will not be supporting the GOP, and if you want to follow that dream, go ahead.

When McCain loses -- and loses BADLY, including Reps & Sens
When McCain loses -- and loses BADLY, with his "coattails" causing the total loss of party status in the House of Representative AND the Senate. (i.e. Dems in control of EVERYTHING)...
And in many states, the substantial loss of status within the STATE level positions (because of the all-out-effort to push McCain and ONLY McCain at the expense of the rest of the party)...
Then... (this winter and next spring) the "purge" within the Republican party can begin -- the "top" of the party will purge itself of the McCain-fanciers, and it is up to the local party units to begin the purge (or "reeducation") of their local and state-level party leaders -- because either they were RINO McCain type, or were the "wishy-washy" and clueless non-supporters of any other candidate (in other words, they have no idea what being a REPUBLICan means).
THAT is the time that we will have the opportunity to seize control of not just a pointless "third-party" -- but rather one of the two MAJOR PARTIES (with ALL that that implies) -- and to turn the "Battleship" around and train its guns and firepower against the "socialists" in the Democratic party (and those few remaining in the Republican party) as well.
THE KEY will then be to recruit new YOUNG people into the party -- the *one* task Ron Paul has ACTUALLY been diligent about the past two years (much MORE diligent than he was about the Presidential campaign).
The old "GOP" is basically dying off -- McCain himself is a sign of that (and anyone attending a local GOP group can attest to the fact that the vast majority of those in attendance can be best described as not merely "old" but rather "one-foot-in-the-grave" old and whose only "loyalty" has been to the "name" of Republican and the now-fading memory of Ronald Reagan) -- the party is ripe for the taking, and no one else will even want to try, as all of the "power-hungry" types will be moving over to the Democratic party.
2009 is our ONE CHANCE to take over, redirect, and realign a major political party towards Liberty -- and ironically it will all be thanks to John McCain.

The GOP is ripe for the taking...by more bankers, corporations, and players in the military-industrial complex. They will continue to inject their billions and power into the party and keep it alive.
There won't be any "purge" of McCain types in the party or any return, even rhetorically, to Ronald Reagan-style conservatism.
I will also predict now (and I hope I'm wrong) that there won't be a serious landslide defeat of McCain or the GOP; it's going to be a fairly close election, due in large part to the fact that McCain and Obama are almost identical in their New World Order policies. I would expect a heavy turnout and a close race.

if that is the plan, than let's hardwire it into the patriots who are committed to the mission and get to work. The Campaign for Liberty's base is starving for a plan of action. Your post, I believe is the correct direction but we need a team of supporters who comit to a four year plan and we need to generate a Public Relation campaign that will atract more people, celebrity supporters and positive media esposure. Something outside of the box, utlizing the Internet, the youth of Amercia and the sense that we are saving America.
A detailed mission objective is needed, followed by commitment and passion.

For the time being... the corporate money is going Democratic...
For the time being... the MAJOR corporate money is going to the Democratic party, because they realize that THEY will be the ones in positions of power for several years to come.
Doubtless *in time* virtually ALL politicians (just like the voting populace -- which normally gets the kind of government they "deserve") become co-opted, mainly by their desire to STAY in office, which then fuels the need for additional BIG monies to fund vast "war-chests" and etc.
But likewise there are times when there ARE opportunities for people to come in who are NOT corrupt, and they can make dramatic changes in major policies and philosophies and thus the direction of both a political party and a nation.
Agreed that we must seek out candidate who are NOT the bog-standard "career" politicians -- but a LOT of that can be aided and/or controlled by the local parties (which is inevitably the source from whence the future politicians come). There are no guarantees with anything, but we very likely WILL have an opportunity here this winter and next spring... if we SEIZE that opportunity then there will be hope; but if we "piddle-fart" around splitting up across several parties then even THAT opportunity will be lost.
Of course, I could be wrong, and the GOP *may* be able to pull off yet another "theft" of the Presidency (but nothing else -- the GOP will still lose ground everywhere else) via their 50% +1 and electoral college shenanigans -- which will make retaking the local parties difficult until McCain literally croaks (2010?). But heck, nothing is certain in life other than death and taxes (and the fact that -- near term -- we will have more of BOTH no matter which of the major party candidates becomes President).

could be like the NRA. An organization that the politicians want an endorsement from Campaign for liberty. Then the campaign for liberty could endorse or disregard any candidate C4L wanted to give a recommendation for good or condemnation to those who aren't inline. And possibly C4L could use the Constitutional party as our base, since the Republican party is almost a has been.

There Is A Reason
There is a reason why Ron Paul has no opposition in the general election. He will be elected to yet another term as a Republican Congressman in the 14th District of Texas on Nov. 4, 2008.
But of course that could not be happening. The Republican Party is corrupt. The State Party is beyond corrupt. Some of the party leaders in his district don't like him. Yet the PEOPLE vote overwhelmingly for him.
They have embraced Ron Paul because of what he is.
Still, do you think they would elect him as an independent? Hardly.
Follow the example of the most successful Liberty politician in the country.
Follow the example of the man who inspired you to get involved in the first place.
Follow the example of the man whose name graces this website.
Good people can win over the rank and file of the Republican Party. Ron Paul has proved it. 11 times.

I am not arguing with you, I am just pointing out that the Campaign for Liberty is a powerful force, a force which could take over a political party with ballot access, to promote the ideals of Dr. Paul. We could try to get ballot access as the Campaign for Liberty party, but many states require a 5% showing in a previous contest.
Other parties already have ballot access in many states.
My personal preference is the Constitution Party, because the name personifies what Dr. Paul called himself, "The Champion of the Constitution."

It is yours for the taking.
It won't just fall into your laps, however.
The current leadership of the GOP contains mainly neocons and their allies religious right fanatics. The rank and file of the Republican Party, including many who have dropped out of active participation because of disgust, includes many who believe in the old right small government philosophy. You can inspire them, but you have to work hard, work smart, seek a common denominator, and smile, smile, smile.
I guarantee there are many millions more voters within your reach by this method than by staying off in a corner by yourselves.

Liberty Party
The Liberty Party should be formed, el pronto, from the seeds of the Campaign for Liberty. The season is now and the ground is fertile.
Why try to fix the foundation of a house when the roof sills are being gnawed by greedy bastards? Why wash the filthy windows for clarity and purpose when other household members are throwing stones through them? Why water the gardens of truth and the quench the thirst for justice from a well polluted with greed, malice, and indifference?
Every election cycle, these two parties set their houses afire. While we busy ourselves throwing water at it, others are spilling gasoline. The elites are free to loot and pillage all the while.
I say, get out! And don't look back. Take your family, friends, and comrades with you. Others, lost and lonely in these houses of fools, brats, and ghosts, will follow us to a new and better place.
