Excellent Reason to Vote for Bob Barr
See this very informative posting by Richard Winger at www.ballot-access.org
"If Barr could get 3% in Arkansas, the Libertarian Party would be a qualified party for the first time ever in that state. If he could get 2% in either or both Iowa and Kentucky, the Libertarian Party would be a qualified party for the first time ever in those two states. If he gets on in Connecticut and polls just 1%, the party will have permanent status for president for the first time in its history. If Barr just gets one-half of 1% in New Mexico, that will extend the party’s ballot status in that state for four more years. If he gets 1% in Maryland, that will extend the party’s status in that state for another two years. If either he or the party’s candidate for Governor of North Carolina gets 2%, that will extend the party’s qualified status for 4 years. If either he or the US Senate candidate in Massachusetts gets 3%, that will make the party ballot-qualified in that state. If he gets 1% in Nevada, that will extend the party’s qualified status another two years. If he or one of the other 3 statewide candidates in Pennsylvania gets 2% of the highest vote-getter’s total, that will bring back the party’s “qualified” status in that state (although that status isn’t very useful). If he or one of the party’s 3 candidates for statewide state office gets 2% in Utah, the party’s qualified status will extend another two years.
The rewards would be even greater if he got 5%."
We have an opportunity to build the libertarian movement by improving the Libertarian Party's ballot status. Lets make it happen!

Any third party candidate is a good vote
A vote for a third party is a vote against the establishment. I think that is the message we want to send. If all third party candidates get a high percentage of votes vs. the establishment candidates, I think that will make others see that we don't have to eat what they're feeding us.

Sorry...
I don't see a reason to reward the Libertarian Party. When they get rid of the neo-cons that are currently running their party, nominate someone that isn't a neo-con that had a sudden change of heart, and banish all of the Ron Paul haters, then I'll help them "become legitimate."
Until then, they can go fuck themselves.
Bob Barr on: the Iraq War
Hi N_G_J,
I agree with you that neo-cons are running the United States Government and the Republican Party. Here is Bob Barr's statement on the Iraq War:
"The invasion and occupation of Iraq were two separate mistakes, which collectively have cost thousands of American lives and hundreds of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars. Every day that the occupation in Iraq continues without a withdrawal plan is a day that more American blood and treasure (some $400 million a day) is needlessly wasted.
Unlike Republicans, who are calling for essentially permanent bases in Iraq, and Democrats, who have done nothing to counter Republican calls for an indefinite occupation, I would put in place plans for withdrawal without undue delay. While I support an exit from Iraq as quickly as possible, I would not publicly announce a timetable to our adversaries. However, as President, I would begin to immediately and significantly begin to reduce both the military and the economic security blanket we are providing the government.
The Iraqi government has come to rely too heavily on American forces to maintain control of its country, and our U.S. taxpayer dollars to artificially support its economy. A continued U.S. presence in Iraq emboldens both insurgents and terrorists, and discourages the Iraqi government from taking control of promoting peace and prosperity in Iraq."
Are these the words of a Neo-Con?
I am a consistent contibuter to the Libertarian Party but I do not run it. I also was one of the earliest supporters of Ron Paul since I voted for him in 1988 and was his 18th financial contributer when he announced his campaign for the Republican nomination. I am sorry that the Republican Party did not nominate him. The Libertarian Party offered him our nomination but he declined. So I ask you to help us make a significant impression on the American public by gathering sufficient votes for Bob Barr so that he comes in third behind McBama. Thanks for all you do for liberty. Best regards.
Those are the words...
...of a man who didn't believe those words one day but did the next. Those are the words of a man who spit in the face of one of the greatest men that this country ever produced. I neither trust nor respect the man or the party that nominated him.
I don't like Barr either...
But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. The LP made a mistake, it happens, and apparently the good guys in the LP put up quite a fight and Barr pulled some crap to get nominated. It wasn't a landslide for him, and most of the LP, probably even those who originally supported him, I believe regret that choice.

Why I’m Voting For Bob Barr, And Why You Should Too
Hello wolfe,
I am glad you value the Libertarian Party. We need your help in building it and giving America a consistent pro-liberty choice. There is a thoughtful article here that explains one voter's reasons for voting for Bob Barr. His name is Doug Matoconis. See:
http://www.thelibertypapers.org/2008/10/20/why-im-voting-for...
Here is an excerpt from the article:
"That’s why, this year, I am voting for Bob Barr for President of the United States.
Unlike any other candidate running for President this year, Bob Barr stand unequivocally in favor of the principles of individual liberty and limited government that stand at the core of America’s founding documents. He’s the only candidate who has spoken out against the evils of the Nanny State in all it’s manifestations. He’s the only candidate who has made the case against a solution to the problem of increasing health care costs that doesn’t involve more government regulation, higher taxes, and no real solution for the consumer.
He’s one of the few politicians I’ve ever seen admit that he was wrong when he repudiated his previous positions on the War on Drugs. He’s spoken out on the Bush Administration’s assault on civil liberties, taken a clear and consistent position on the Second Amendment, called for the separation of government and the economy, and called for a return to a defense policy that actually involves defending the United States rather than engaging in adventures abroad. More recently, he has been the only candidate to speak out against government bailouts of private companies — whether its Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac or the entire banking industry.
Most importantly of all, though, Bob Barr is the only candidate running for President on a platform that is based upon the ideas of individual liberty and limited government that the United States was founded upon. They are ideas that have worked in the past, but they’ve been abandoned by both major political parties.
It’s time to return to the America that was meant to be. It’s time to vote for Bob Barr."
Thank you for all you do for liberty. Best regards.
Knock it off...
I won't vote for Barr. I was defending the LP, NOT Barr but you are doing two things. First, making want to defend it less, and second, giving credibility to those who want to give up on the LP.

The fact that he was soo...
smug, and did not show up to Ron Paul's Press Conference for the Third Party candidates just shows how much of a neo-con he still is. He wants Liberty, he better fight for it just as bad as we are.
Bob Barr is Fighting for Liberty
Hi Tessie101,
I was disappointed that Bob Barr didn't show up for Ron Paul's Press Conference, too. But that does not make him a neo-con. Barr is speaking out against pre-emptive war and the military industrial complex empire overseas. He is fighting every day for the US Constitution. He has in the past two weeks been campaining in Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, South Carolina, and now he is in Colorado. Here is a recent interview on a Denver TV station: http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=102159&catid=339 I think you will agree that he does not sound like a Neo-con in that interview. The Libertarian Party is always there, election after election, contesting the Demopublicans who are destroying our freedoms. Please don't make one strategic error on Barr's part turn you off to everything we are doing. Thank you for all you are doing for liberty. Best regards.
I do not base....
my opinion of Barr on one press conference he failed to attend. I have followed his voting record, and quite frankly it stinks. This man is no different than Obama, and McCain. He is now saying what the people may want to hear, but his voting record does not represent me or my Libertarian leaning views. He is ex-CIA, and that right there should tell us something about his charactor, it certainly tells me he cannot be trusted. My vote will be for Chuck Baldwin.
Immediately following...
The no-show press conference, his campaign issued an e-mail that did the following:
Praised Bush for his leadership.
Insulted Ron Paul directly and harshly.
Insulted RP supporters directly.
Sounds like a Republocrat NeoCon to me.

There are other reasons to not vote for Barr...
He voted for the 'Iraq War Resolution.'
He voted for the 'Patriot Act' (Though to his credit, he only did so after he was able to add a sunset clause... fat lot of good that did us).
He was an ARDENT supporter of the 'War on Drugs.'
He authored the 'Defense of Marriage Act.'
Now before anyone jumps down my throat screaming "He has Changed!", He is different!", or "You don't get it!" allow me to make my further explain myself. I know he has modified his positions and quite frankly, I really don't care.
I have reservations about supporting a candidate who was willing to pass the power to declare war to the executive branch.
I have reservations about supporting a candidate who was willing to give up a little freedom for a little security.
I have reservations about supporting a candidate who thought he had the right to legislate morality.
And I have reservations about voting for a Party rather than a Candidate.
In short, I want to vote Libertarian but I just don't think I can stomach it.
Barr's words mean nothing, his actions mean everything.
Barr's actions are that of an anti-freedom neo-conservative, fairly recently voting for horrible things such as the Patriot Act, and trying to embarrass and wreck Ron Paul's effort to strengthen third parties.

He looks funny
I really don't like his mustache.
But He Sounds Great
Hi rlcmcallen,
Yes, it does look strange as mustaches are out of fashion these days. However, he may look better with it than without it! Some of my friends and even my wife told me that Ron Paul had a whiny voice. I encouraged them to listen to what he was saying and then the sound of the voice was less of a distraction. Bob Barr is speaking out against the bailouts and the ruin of our currency and is reaching many people through his TV appearances who are looking for an alternative and just finding out about the value of liberty. I encourage you to vote for Bob Barr so we can build a stronger and more effective Libertarian Party in the future. Thank you for all you do for liberty. Best regards.

Bob Barr on: Foreign Intervention & Foreign Bases
Hi clintontj72,
I am glad that you have been supporting the Libertarian Party for a long time. So have I. We are willing to take on the Demopublicans. I share your concern that the Neocons taken control of our government and the Republican Party. Otherwise, why wouldn't they nominate Ron Paul? As you know the Libertarian Party offered Ron Paul our Presidential nomination. Bob Barr was the LP national committee member who introduced the resolution offering the nomination to Dr. Paul and it passed unanimously.
Here is Bob Barr's statement about Foreign Intervention and Foreign Bases:
"America should not be the world’s policeman. The American purpose is to provide a strong national defense, not to engage in nation building or to launch foreign crusades, no matter how seemingly well-intentioned.
It is time to reemphasize the word “defense” in national defense. By maintaining a military presence in more than 130 nations around the world in more than 700 installations, with hundreds of thousands of troops deployed overseas, the U.S. spends more to protect the soil of other nations than our own. Bringing these soldiers home would better protect America while saving lives and money. The U.S. requires a military strong enough to defend this nation, not to support and defend much of the rest of the world.
Moreover, foreign aid has proved to be a drain on the U.S. economy while doing little good for the recipients. Aid is routinely used by corrupt foreign governments to oppress their people and enrich powerful elites. Foreign aid almost always discourages economic and political reform, while subsidizing nations which often work against U.S. interests.
American foreign policy should emphasize swift, decisive and winning action against those who vowed would harm us. This means defense, not foreign intervention. We should encourage private involvement around the world, particularly through free trade. The most effective way to preserve peace is through an expanding free market, backed by a full range of cultural and other private relationships, not by maintaining permanent military presences around the globe."
I am glad to be supporting a candidate for US President who agrees with Ron Paul on these vital issues. I hope that you will stay involved with the Libertarian Party. Thank you for all you do for liberty. Best regards.

He really does look like a weasel. I wish Barr had a better record.
Since I won't be picking a winner anyway, my vote goes to Chuck Baldwin. Maybe he'll wise up after this election and run for some "starter" office.
didn't he run for governor a few years ago?
He ran for VP in '04.

Barr Has Seen The Light
Hi Kevin,
I appreciate and share your concern for the US Constitution. When Bob Barr was a Republican Congressman he did vote for some things that he now knows were incorrect. I appreciate someone who realizes when they have made an error and is trying to do the right thing. Now Bob Barr is speaking out daily on TV, radio and in personal campaign appearances about the same topics that you and I are concerned about. He now is speaking about the need for dedication to the US Constitution. He is often asked about his previous positions. It is not easy for a politician to publically be questioned about their change of positions. That is why almost none of them ever do so. But I appreciate Bob Barr's willingness to try to advance the cause of liberty. We have an opportunity to make a lasting impression on the American public with a strong showing for a Presidential candidate who is not willing to bail out everyone like McBama with our taxes and who is not willing to destroy our currency. I appreciate your efforts for other alternative candidates, who are much better than McBama. But I think that Bob Barr will have the best chance to make progress for us libertarians in this General Election. Thanks for all you do for liberty. Best regards.
