Newsweek blames the financial crisis on Libertarians... you know, the people who have never been in power....
I couldn't believe my eyes... I couldn't finish reading the article.... I had to literally throw the magazine down because it was so disgusting/stupid
In an article in Newsweek Magazine, titled "The Libertarians Lament," Jacob Weisberg blames Libertarians for the current financial crisis labeling us "ideologues," and asks "haven't you people done enough harm already?... This is thanks to an economic meltdown made possible by libertarian ideas... any competent forensic work has put the libertarian theory of self-regulating financial markets at the scene of the crime."
He breifly mentions libertarian arguments to the cause of the crisis (such as the Community Reinvestment Act, subsidizing Frannie and Freddie, etc.) but, without any proof/argument, he just claims that these arguments are wrong.
What I'd like to know is, Jacob Weisberg, how the hell is it possible that this crisis is the Libertarians' fault when there are virtually NO Libertarians in any political office anywhere?

I left a message with Jacob Weisberg
I called Slate and left a message with several people in my attempt to interview Jacob Weisberg and I find it quite odd that a news publication will print a story and not give the public a means to communicate via email or phone to their writers.
If anyone has Comrade Weisberg's contact information, I would love to have it. Also, I noticed that someone had put together a very nice piece in regards to all the news media's contact information. I would like to have this list sent to me in an Excel spreadsheet (if possible) so I can build it and give contact information to these people as soon as ignorant pieces hit the news wires. I also would like to find out how many Realtors are here as we have direct access to property records and I am looking to build a list of all addresses for these people. We need to develop our own intelligence and hold them accountable by protesting in their front yards and shaking the trees so that everytime they move, we are their shadow following and reminding them that they cannot hide from the light of liberty.
I too would like that list...if we're talking the same
one, i.e. all media outlet e-mails,etc. I saw it on here once, I can't remember the thread or find it though. It was an extensive list, during the bailout emails,faxes,etc. Whoever posted it, I remember was criticized for it being so long. I don't care if it's re posted on here or sent in an e-mail either, so long as we get it.

I know what you are trying to say, but I think its wrong blaming us, the good guys, who are the victims here. First, it sounds like collective punishment, making us to blame for others mischief. I don't accept that. Second, most of the hard-won truths we take for granted here were not common knowledge in our public education. It took Ron Paul to educate us. Let's face it, economics is made deliberately obtuse by the powers that be so the common person can't grasp it. If the Austrian economics was taught at high school level and in college, we would a better educated people, wouldn't we? People have been duped by our government withholding these things, and replacing them with propaganda.
We have the advantage of the internet, which has increased people's knowledge concerning these issues a thousandfold. So let's put the blame back were it belongs--To the representatives that violated our trust and the oath to their office.
We are in position to be the next "Greatest Generation" of our time to save our country. We are not storming a beach on D-Day like our forefathers did with a rifle, but instead we are fighting with a keyboard to save our country from the greatest threat to freedom it has ever known--our own government.

the next DEFLATIONARY depression that I think is coming. RON PAUL has been talking about INFLATION since the 80's and I mostly agree with him, but in my opinion, the economy has been progressing from inflation to deflation due to the aging population, the debt, and the structure of the economy that makes distribution of wealth and money difficult, in my opinion. All of these things reduce demand for goods and services, in my opinion, and goosing up the demand by inflation will only make the DEFLATION worse in the future, in my opinion. Therefore, unless RON PAUL starts to mention this transition from inflation to deflation, I'm afraid that he will become the ultimate scapegoat in the future.

The thought occurred to me that I may have figured out what they threatened Ron Paul with, earlier this year. A lot of people thought they hit him with death threats. I think they told him that he would be blamed for an economic crash they knew was coming.

The truth is, what the neos call free market is not what libertarians call free market, so this becomes an opportunity to educate. When the bailout first started tipping they immediately ran to Ron Paul, so I think you are right about RP and them blaming him. Thing was, he makes too much sense blaming the crooks, not the victims, so they can't use that and need to attack him.
Slate featured this article and they put the site up for maintenence so no one can respond. Must have had 200 posts and the vast majority strongly disagreed with Jacob. Also I think it shows how weak they are. They will fail and we need to prepare to step up.
