Welcome to the Daily PaulSubmitted by Michael Nystrom on Wed, 01/24/2007 - 00:33
Well, since word is starting to get out about this site, I figure I may as well launch it officially. The idea behind it, plain and simple, is to raise awareness about the Honorable Congressman Dr. Ron Paul and the issues he champions, with the ultimate intent of helping to elect him president of the United States in 2008.
Dr. Paul is the most amazing "crossover" candidate I have ever seen. Although he is a Republican, he ran for President in 1988 as a Libertarian. But because of his stance on the fundamental issues of importance to this country, he appeals strongly to both Democrats and Republicans. One Democrat recently said, "I was ready to get behind [John Edwards] until I heard Ron Paul may step in. If he steps up, I will help make it happen." A staunch Reagan republican contacted me about helping to raise awareness for the Paul campaign. Another friend who up until now thought voting was a waste of time ("I'm one of the biggest cynics when it comes to voting and our so-called democracy") says he too would vote for Dr. Paul, should he run. This kind of reaction is extremely exciting.
What is it about Ron Paul that gives him such a wide appeal? He is principled. He is not like any other modern-day politician, and people sense that immediately after hearing him speak or reading his writings. He stands up for what he believes in no matter how unpopular, and will not back down because he truly puts America first. The fact that he is a Republican is actually an embarrassment to the powers that be in the Republican party because he does not hesitate to break ranks with the party, or challenge the wisdom of the current president. Dr. Paul stand firm - many times being the only dissenter in an otherwise unanimous House vote - because his principles are based on the rock solid foundation of the United States Constitution. In an era when the current sitting president is quoted as saying "The Constitution is just a goddamned piece of paper." Dr. Paul upholds his oath to defend and protect - not a piece of paper - but the foundation of the legitimacy of the laws of our nation, the U.S. Constitution. It and it alone are the source of power of our legitimate government.
This, dear friends, is the key to Dr. Paul's wide appeal across the political spectrum. Like many Americans, he believes that the Federal Government has become too big, too strong, and meddles in too many areas that it has no business meddling in. While many politicians from both sides of the aisle pay lip service to this idea, the government continues to grow and grow and grow, and spend more and more money, regardless of which party controls the Whitehouse or Congress. Dr. Paul's popularity is understandable in a world dominated by two nearly indistinguishable political parties. In the 2004 presidential election, both candidates were members of the secret Skull and Bones society, the Democrats failed to field an anti-war candidate, and the Republicans failed to field a true conservative. In this context - a political world with a choice as significant between that between Coke and Pepsi, or Burger King and McDonalds - Dr. Paul stands out like a shining beacon of hope to disillusioned American voters.
Many who call themselves "Democrats" or "Republicans" do so only out of habit, but are in fact uncomfortable with many of the policies espoused by their party. The truth is that there is little significant choice, and that is how party leaders and politicians like it. This is why Lou Dobbs recommends that Americans change their political affiliation to Independent.
So far the powers that be in the Republican Party and the mainstream media (MSM) are intent on ignoring Dr. Paul, hoping that he will go away and stop bringing up embarrassing topics that they have no credible way of answering. Instead, the MSM is choosing to focus their resources on the big names - Hillary, Obama, Giuliani, McCain and the like. But none of these candidates offer anything but the tried and true status quo of mediocrity. Because the MSM is certain to distort Dr. Paul's message or ignore the him completely, the only way to get the true word out is though individual action, which coalesces into a mass movement that simply cannot be ignored.
This is why I set up this web site. I am the editor and webmaster of bullnotbull.com , where a small community of us discuss and argue about just about anything. When the subject of Dr. Paul's candidacy came up, the agreement was unanimous. It was stunning, and it gave me hope that average Americans can find common political ground.
I recently finished reading a book called Dark Ages America The author, Morris Berman, sees the US on an irreversible slide into the dark ages. I am not that pessimistic, and the fact that there are still people in the world like Dr. Paul is one reason why. This being the case, I could not stand by and do nothing, so I set up this site to hopefully build some awareness and momentum for the campaign. I've also offered my services to Dr. Paul's campaign itself (lord knows they'll need it, judging from the current site)
I urge you to investigate Dr. Paul and his message yourself. Here are some useful links to do that:

Read the words of the man himself and make up your own mind. If you like what you read, then please become an active participant on this site, and in Dr. Paul's campaign. This site is an independent effort not (yet) associated with the Paul campaign. To participate, just sign up for an account, which will allow you to post comments to the site. Signing up takes only a second. Only registered users are allowed to post comments, in order to discourage spam and other malicious behavior. If you would also like to write articles, or have your own blog on the site, or have an outside blog you would like me to link to, please contact me using the contact form.
I will try to update this site daily, and would appreciate your help in spreading the word. Dr. Paul and his campaign will need all the grassroots support they can get.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for your time and effort towards making this country a better place.
Tomorrow - How I first heard of Ron Paul - A great story, if I do say so myself!
