Ron Paul will be an "official" write-in candidate in California!!!
In California, you must have 55 declared electors filed with the Secretary of State's office before you become an "official" write-in candidate for president. Unless a voter writes in an "official" write-in candidate for an office, his or her vote doesn't count.
Gail Lightfoot has been spearheading a drive to get the required number of electors, and I just got an email from her that Evelyn Mendez, Program Manager Candidates & Elections in the California Secretary of State's office, indicates we have 70 completed elector forms! Gail is working with her to finalize the 55 electors.
Bottom Line:
Ron Paul will be an official write-in candidate for the office of president in California! If you write in "Ron Paul," it WILL count!!!

There are 55 electors in California
there are 3 in Montana and
there are 9 in Louisiana...
that is 68 total electors he could win!! In a close election that would throw the actual voting for the President to the House of Representatives..
Each elector casts one vote for President and one vote for Vice President. In order to be elected, a candidate must have a majority (at least 270) of the electoral votes cast for that office. having been an election judge for 20 years, there are some things you can not do. but here is something you can do but you have to be at least 100 ft from the front door of the polls. pass out literature on your 3rd party choiceand/or put up signs to "VOTE THIRD PARTY FOR PRESIDENT'. give the message that there are more than two choices!
are the rules the same for each state??
And if so... can you say post a banner at least 100 feet away that says .. WRITE IN RON PAUL IT WILL BE COUNTED!!
find out the
distance marker for your precinct. you can have that sign as long as you are the proper distance from the polling location.
I have a problem with writing him in
I think this is an effort to sabotage the LP. Not by you guys, but by those behind the effort to submit his name against his wishes.
Dr. Paul made it pretty clear that he's looking forward to continuing in Congress and that he wants us to support alternative freedom candidates. Why would someone violate that plan by filing his name unless they were trying to hurt the LP?
Write-ins won't get any press. California is way too big, and Obama is going to be the big story, here. Has anyone done any research to see if even official write-in votes were counted in past elections?
I'm voting for Barr. He has earned my vote by supporting Ron Paul's entry into the race from the beginning and by continuing to deliver the same freedom message for the LP. And my vote helps us build for the next round. (It would be different if I were a member of the GOP, I guess, but I'm not.)
The battle will continue and since it's not about just one person, but about ideals, supporting the LP is more important to me. (If this was just about one person, we call that a "cult.") I'll be happy if everyone votes for what they want, instead of to block. What I want is FREEDOM!
And, with any luck, Dr. Paul will be in Congress, too!

The issues with Barr:
The issues with Barr are very clear:
1) Barr already betrayed the Constitution in Congress during the Bush reign of terror.
2) Despite LP claims, he's running a lousy campaign, and has no more traction, if not less, than Baldwin or Nader.
3) He doesn't promote Libertarian principles; he promotes Bob Barr.
4) His VP running mate is a neoconservative.
If you can still hold your nose and vote for him after all that, good luck.
I voted Libertarian on the bottom of the ticket, and wrote in Baldwin. My conscience is clear.

But since Ron Paul endorsed Baldwin, I suppose you're accusing him of sabotaging the LP as well.... LOL
Bob Barr has spit in our faces over, and over again. There's no way I was voting for Barr. I was a member of the LP for 20 years until I re-registered Republican to vote for Ron Paul. The LP has never gone anywhere and shows no sign that it ever will. In fact, with the "cleansing" of its platform, it's not even a good place for liberty-minded stalwarts to hang out anymore.
Trust me when I say no one "behind the effort" is even considering the LP -- much less making an "effort to sabotage" it. The only possible downside for the LP is future ballot access, but I doubt that Ron Paul being a write-in will affect that. The people who were going to vote for Barr will mostly vote for Barr anyway.

I could have written in Ron Paul- I paused and thought about it. But then i marked the box beside Chuck Baldwin - only because RP asked me nicely to vote for the 3rd party candidate of my choice. RP was obviously my 1st choice- but he's not running- and he even endorsed Baldwin. Neither will be pres- but I wonder if im going to wish id written in RP after the smoke clears.

Yes, I don't know what to do either! My ballot has been sitting
in front of me for days and I want to write in Ron Paul, but he is not an official write-in candidate in my state and has until election day to become an official candidate -- which I'm sure he won't file for. Baldwin and Nader are on my ballot too though...I don't know WHAT to do!

But seriously, I would only write in Ron where it will count.
That would not be Washington. The Revised Code of Washington states, in part:
"No write-in vote made for any person who has not filed a declaration of candidacy pursuant to RCW 29A.24.311 is valid if that person filed for the same office, either as a regular candidate or a write-in candidate, at the preceding primary."
So, since Ron Paul ran in the primary, a vote for him as a write in would be INVALID, and be just as if you had never voted at all.

I love Ron Paul more than any other political figure ever
But I have come to the realization that to have my voice heard, voting for Baldwin was the way to do it. And it's okay, 'cuz Baldwin is a good guy.
When my wife and I were filling out our ballots, we sat there and pondered for a moment. She asked me, "who are you voting for for president? I think I should write in Ron Paul." But in the end, we knew Baldwin was the right vote.
It also helps our Alaskan Independence Party maintain ballot access by giving their top candidate enough votes to stay on in future years.
I like Chuck. But if I had the choice, I sure wouldn't mind living in Montana just long enough to vote for President there.

Interestingly enough, I saw a recent poll from Montana
that showed Obama leading McCain by 4.2% (compiled I think by the Univ. of Montana) and it showed Dr. Paul polling at 4.2%. Quite a coincidence, eh? .......... Dr. Paul denying John McCain the electoral votes of Montana? There's only 3 electoral votes from that state, but it brings a smile to think that Dr. Paul might be keeping McIdiot from getting them.
