With despair rising even among many of John McCain’s own advisors, influential Republicans inside and outside his campaign are engaged in an intense round of blame-casting and rear-covering—-much of it virtually conceding that an Election Day rout is likely.

Either this story is to be believed, OR Lindsey Williams. I don't see how it's possible for both to be true. He says McCain will be the next president and that it's already been set. So, now here is this article saying the GOP is crumbling?

Here's another problem with the "let's rebuild on their ash heap after McCain is defeated" plan.
I can tell you right now that as soon as the GOP is out of power, they will start sounding more conservative again. They do this every time they lose the White House and don't have a majority in Congress. Of COURSE they will start to sound "principled" once they are out of power. They know what the gullible public wants to hear.
If you believe them, congratulations--you are stupid.
If you plan to "take them over" at the grassroots, you are prepared to believe them when they start lying again.
The less power in Washington they have, the more conservative campaign promises they will make. They aren't stupid.

Sort of like
the "Jeffersonian" John Culberson. As a matter of fact, the Republicans don't have to be "out of power" to reverse their stance, they just have to be running again and then they tell us what we want to hear. It has been happening my entire life time. Reagan even did it. He said one thing and did another. Culberson is now endorsed by Ron Paul, but his history says, "no, no." Yes, he voted NO on the bailout, but a bailout vote does not make a career. Especially if the bailout vote is taken a second time and the elite convert only the number of people they need to swing the vote. The others are left to make it look to the public as if the public got someone to listen to them so that we will go back to sleep. John was just part of the lullaby chorus. It takes time to build trust when trust has been trampled into the ground. Vote them all out. Vote them all out and save a little bit of money on their greedy retirement funds.
So what I want to know is,

Because that is not Ron Paul's plan. He supports advancing our ideas through all existing parties.

When I saw Dr. Paul being snubbed
I said the GOP would rather lose than win with Ron Paul. It turns out I was right. They knew he was the only one who could win, but they also know he'd take away the gravy train that is war.

Actually, they *believed* they could pull another 2000/2004
type election... that they (national and regional party "leaders") could "tweak" things in order to produce another "electoral college win" via the rabbit from the hat in a few "key" states.
That was the "tactic" that was explained as the game plan in the GOP phone-system training sessions I attended last winter.
Problem is *that* type of thing can only work for so long and in certain types of very close elections... it fails once the demographic "tipping point" has changed and/or just stick the party with a candidate that virtually no one WANTED.
Because at that same training session they did a "hand-show" of which candidates people were supporting -- it was very mixed, with everyone from Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and even Rudy Giuliani getting at least a few hands... when they called John McCain's name, not ONE single hand was raised. Truth was that the local party people got "stuck" with McCain, and they had to either drink the proverbial "Kool-Aid" and swallow without thinking about it; OR they chose to back away and NOT help with the election efforts. (And from the email's I've gotten soliciting -- nay BEGGING -- for help with the calling work, the vast majority of the people chose to back away.)

I had a similar experience with my GOP activism; I noticed that there was virtually NO grassroots support for McCain. I volunteered at my county's GOP office from March until May of this year, during the delegate process. One day, as I worked with the membership lists for the past several years, I noticed that the numbers went down every year. I quit after they treated us like dirt at the State GOP Convention. They've left a number of messages on my answering machine asking me to volunteer, but I just let the machine take the call. I was hoping that they'd notice my absence! We're going to go to the GOP meetings in masse AFTER the election!
