I had a conversation (that turned into a heated argument) this morning with a friend who is an Obama supporter. If this is any indication of the rest of Obama supporters, I can't see how this country will survive.

We were discussing the Fed. I brought up the points of how the US gov't borrows money into existence, then the tax payers are resposible for paying the principle plus interest back. I also said the Fed is not a gov't institution and is owned by private banks.

This is where it got heated.......he said so what......then he said we need the Fed to regulate the money supply. I said that was the job of Congress as stated in the Constitution.

I then said had the US treasury created the money, that the taxpayers wouldn't have to pay any money or interest back to anyone. I then asked him if this made sense? He said it did. So then I said you mean to tell that you would rather pay a private institution your tax dollars then have to pay nothing if the treasury created it? He said yes? I said it violates the Constitution.

his response.....the Constitution is a meaningless document that is 230 years old and shouldn't be applied because times have changed.....I just said WOW, WOW, WOW...

So I said then we should just have a world gov't. He said we would be better off if one central group was regulating laws and money...
I just said WOW, WOW, WOW.....

so we just went back and forth on all of these points until we both had enough.......I need to pick better friends.....

He thinks Obama is going to unite the world....I have known this person for several years, and I had no idea he thought this way....oh yea, he said the thought of Ron Paul being President scared the daylights out of him becasue RP would isolate us and bring us back to the stone age.....holy crap.....

This is why this country will not survive in its current state. If you think back to the WW2 era, though there were a few sympathetic to the Nazi cause, they were in the very minority. The vast majority of Americans believed in the Constitution and what America stood for. There was unity in the "feeling" of what America should be.

Divide and conquor
You hit the nail on the head in that last sentence...
"we are a divided country, and divided countries can't survive."
We see this with elections, where certain forces divide the country in a way that support divides nearly 50/50 for either candidate.
In religious institutions, even though we all believe in peace and love, there's a perpetuated argument about insignificant particulars about 'what Jesus said' or 'who the true prophet was', etc., that people become divided.
Even when we talk about economics, if someone doesn't agree entirely with even the best of the established systems, it is regarded as blasphemy.
Racism, sexism, bigotry, discrimination, prejudice, and so on...
There are so many ways that people can find too compartmentalize their beliefs and insignificant differences, that we do not unite in the single most important value that we all have in common...

Yeah, I have a gay friend who is just simply anti-Bush so he voted early and a straight democratic ticket. He said I was wasting my vote with a 3rd party vote and no one would ever even know I voted. He said if things don't turn out like he hopes with Obama that he is moving to another country. He is one of those sheeple, who won't even listen to issues about privacy rights, or the fact that 3rd party doesn't care about sexual orientation because it is a personal thing that government has no business in controlling one way or the other. He blames Bush for everything from his being sick with an incurable infection (so he wants socialized medicine) to his losing his house to foreclosure (he bought a house he couldn't afford and did it with fraud on the application) and now he is living in an old rusty trailer where he has to wash dishes in the bathtub cause there is no kitchen sink. No kitchen sink because the one from the house, that he tried to steal, wouldn't fit. Everything else from the house they either brought along to the trailer or busted to smithereens. Tells you what kind of mentality these people have doesn't it. "help me government help me", and "its not my fault I made bad decisions". Geez!

I've always been a truth seeker
real friendships form when there is a common goal or interest shared. You know the old saying ..."whats the difference between ignorance and apathy?" Answer..." I don't know and I don't care". I know you can't expect people to automatically know whats going on,...it's when people say they don't care about it,...the stuff going on right now is going to impact all these fools futures and thats what i get from them " I don't care, or theres nothing you can do about it". That means if you were ever in need of something, could you really depend on someone like that? My advice, keep a close nit of friends...remember, its quality not quantity. I would rather have one good friend I can count on then a bunch of aquintances.

Die-hard democrat. Obama supporter to the end.
There is no reasoning that can reach him.... he wants socialized medicine. I told him we were broke and couldn't afford socialized meds. He doesn't mind paying more in taxes. I told him the government is the LAST entity I would ever consider for something as important as health care. Look what they did to Motor Vehicle! He pointed out that Motor Vehicles are privatized. I reminded him why they were privatized... the gov't literally ran the department into the ground until nothing could get done.
In the end, like I said, there was no reaching him. No amount of reason could turn him from his Obama course.
We are truly in trouble. I still stand by my statement that there should be a test for stupidity before you are allowed to vote. If you are voting for someone because of skin color, party affiliation, personality, cuteness, etc., then your vote should be weighted accordingly. Maybe make it worth 1/10th a normal vote.
But, hell... it's all rigged anyway.

Look, I don't know who you are or why BOTHERED to message me, but I just got done campaigning and volunteering with the Campaign for Change office tonight in Jeffersonville and I'm really tired and I don't feel like responding to any of this crap at all. But since you asked what kind of change Barack Obama will bring, why don't we start with most obvious one, like generational change? How about we start with the fact that Obama was repeatedly reached out across party lines to pass bills as a state and federal senator why McCain has flip-flopped and pandered to evangelicals? How about we start with the fact that Barack Obama has repeatedly stated diplomacy in foreign relation for years (if you read his second book you'd realize that) while McCain has suggested that we not trust Russia at all, sparking the onset of a second Cold War? How about we consider that fact that Obama has called for regulation on wall street for years (not just when Wall Street crashed) while McCain not only flip-flopped on tax credits for the wealthy but has done little to get the government involved at all (and I hate to tell you this, but it's not 1850 anymore, the government has to get involved, otherwise small businesses would die against major corporations)?
And let's add on the constant attacks on Obama (Muslim, socialist, terrorist, Arab, elitist) and the fact that McCain has done little to reprimand any kind of racist sentiment from his supporters. So yeah, that's enough for me.
I don't care if you don't like Obama, but if you're really against him, please find more credible evidence supporting your reason, not the ridiculous Marxist or socialist (along with uneducated and crazed) banter.

I couldnt make it past page two before it became blatantly obvious that there are plenty of socialistic concepts laid down very clearly. there is a prominent theme of redistribution of wealth straight from the get go.
ive talked to enough obama supporters by now to know that almost all of them are too deeply indoctrinated to even have a rational discussion. After all, you have to figure the thought process in most peoples minds.

If Obama wins the country will have to eventually realize that big government is not the way to go. Plus, I would love to shove an Obama win up the neo-con a$$es, and maybe we can recover the republican party and actually get a conservative, small government congress and house.
Or maybe I'm just dreaming, but I am trying to work at the local level. I think that is where we need to start.
