Questions for IT person about money bomb type website with multi-million capacity database
I am not a trained or experienced IT person and so I’m probably going to ask some dumb questions, but I've got to start somewhere.
I need to know how hard, how fast and how expensive it would be to construct a “money bomb” type website that would register pledges. (It isn't going to be used for a money bomb but something similar.) It would need to store 4 fields of data: name, zip code, phone number and email address and it would need to be able to provide a real time count of the total number of pledges. An optional feature would be for it to be able to keep a count of the number of pledges per state. It would also need to be able to find and delete identitities with duplicate phone numbers.
The biggest problem would be the high volume of identities that it would need to process and store. I’m talking in the 30 – 60 mil range!
Would there be such a thing as finding a giant server or site (or whatever) that is already in operation that could be configured or that could be plugged into to handle this? Like the Freeple website or some giant server or whatever? Because this would have to be up and running in about 3 days since it would be needed for this election cycle.
I can hear you laughing out loud and falling on the floor. I’m sorry I don’t want to assume it can’t be done that fast and find out later that it could be slapped together super fast by some genius IT dude.
