Bruce Fein, Says Next President Must Rectify Abuses By Bush
Constitutional Lawyer and Author of Constitutional Peril, Bruce Fein, Says Next President Must Rectify Abuses By Bush Immediately After Inauguration
WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bruce Fein, Chairman of
the American Freedom Agenda and author of the newly released book
Constitutional Peril, issued a statement today on the four actions that
Senator McCain or Senator Obama must take as soon as inaugurated to restore
Congressional prerogatives and remedy abuses of power by the Bush-Cheney
administration. Mr. Fein advocates the following steps to returning to
honoring the Constitution and the rule of law in the post-Bush era:
1. Renounce the October 9th, 2002 Congressional joint resolution that
authorized the President to unilaterally decide whether to initiate war
against Iraq as an unconstitutional congressional delegation of the war
power; and, accordingly announce the President's intent to terminate
American combat operations in Iraq within 30 days unless Congress passes
a statute directing a continuation of the war. The Constitution clearly
entrusts the decision to initiate war exclusively to Congress. This
derives from the founding fathers' understanding that the President
is inclined to inflate foreign dangers to justify the initiation of
warfare because supreme power migrates to the executive branch in times
of military conflict.
2. Compel Karl Rove and Harriet Miers to testify before Congress by
reversing President Bush's unprecedented claim of constitutional
power to prevent White House officials to appear before Congress in
response to congressional subpoenas in the exercise of congressional
oversight and informing the public of what their government is doing and
why. President Bush's claim would have empowered President Richard
Nixon to prevent former White House counsel John Dean from testifying
before Congress and exposing Nixon's Watergate crimes.
3. Initiate a criminal investigation into whether President Bush, Vice
President Cheney, or any executive branch subordinate should be
prosecuted for complicity in torture, including waterboarding.
4. Declare that all signing statements issued by President George Bush or
his predecessors that announce refusals to enforce provisions of laws
that the President asserted were unconstitutional will be denied of all
force and effect. Every law signed by any President must be fully
enforced. (Mr. Fein served on the American Bar Association's Task
Force on Presidential Signing Statements).
Fein insists these steps are essential to restoring constitutional
government featuring checks and balances and suspicion of presidential
wars. Fein's statement challenges both candidates to surrender powers
usurped by the Bush Administration and its predecessors that have taken the
nation dangerously close to one-branch government.

I doubt either one of these cronies would do any of these. But i agree on making the statement and hopefully more people will be aware of whats going on.

Dream team
Wouldn't it be great if Bruce Fein, as you say, would be the Attorney General? This thought got me thinking. Instead of waiting for individuals to promote themselves and campaign, etc., why don't we the people put together a dream team administration and gather support for it and then present it to the participants and see if they will cooperate? In other words, the president should not be an ego maniac but a wise person who maybe doesn't even want the job, but if the country asked, they would serve to the best of their ability. Let the people propose the leaders not vice versa?
