Help! My girls are being brainwashed!

It seems like they train the kids from a young age to believe in the two-party system. It's kinda ridiculous. I would write to the school board if you are concerned.

My 3rd grader has had the "mock election" going on at her school as well, not too mention all the kids keep asking "who are your parents going to vote for?"

Teacher told her that he is no longer running, and assumed that we must now be voting for McCain (*ack*). She knew well enough and said no. Then she said then we must be voting for Obama, and again she said no. My daughter came home slightly confused because her teacher claimed no one else is running...

That night, we showed our daughter the other four major candidates and explained to her their positions and differences and why they are a better choice. So she went in and explained this and our position at home. While the teacher acknowledged that there were other candidates, she told my daughter the typical, your parents are being silly, they cannot win, its a wasted vote.

So, we explained to our daughter about how many people are uninformed and not properly educated regarding politics, freedom, and our constitution. We sent her to school the next day asking her teacher to look up Badnarik's Constitution Class, as well as with the following quote:

Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost. --John Quincy Adams

Didn't hear anything more for about a week, then my daughter came home and said that the teacher had spoken to the principle and had the other four added to the school "mock ballot". That same night my wife received a very nice email from the teacher thanking us for the information and indicated that she had been a big Obama supporter, but now has changed her mind and is considering one of the other four candidates rather than a "lesser-of-two-evils" - she also asked if we had other material that she could be pointed to for reading or viewing.

But if you send your kids to a state school (or even many private schools) the teachers WILL try to indoctrinate your children about politics and history.

My 3 kids' elementary school here in Virgina held a mock election on Monday. To my pleasant surprise, the mock ballots for 2nd grade and up presented all six candidates! My second grader voted for Chuck Baldwin and my fouth grader voted for Bob Barr! My first grader was dismayed at having only 2 choices, but she voted for McCain. Our children can and do understand about liberty!

As long as the kids are telling you what is up, you have a real opportunity to talk to them, to explain that the teacher oversimplified and to give them a real education. Your little one is leaps and bounds ahead of most already, the older just needs a little extra education, in a fun but serious way, from her parents. Most people are followers. Your children are 50-50, which puts you in pretty good shape. The younger one will be more trouble to raise, the ones who really think for themselves always are, but watching her grow, gently guiding her thought processes, will be a great joy. She will have little appreciation for being treated like a child, especially as she approaches her teen years, and those are the most wonderful children to be around. I envy you on that one!

has done an excellent job in teaching the students about the American Revolution. One of the teachers actually "taxed" the students one pencil a day until the class revolted. lol

I had the same issue with our school teaching that there are only two choices for President. I actually like it when this kind of stuff happens. It helps my kids see that they are not always being given all options. I think it is important to explain WHY neither choice is acceptable. My son actually wrote a paper about having to pick between two evils. He got 100% on it.

I very much enjoy our public school. My kids have had a math teacher with a masters degree since 3rd grade. They are way ahead in math. My one son in 6th grade tested at college level for reading and math. My son with dyslexia is scoring in the 96th percentile for reading. I couldn't possibly provide the kind of help he is getting, The high school offers classes that can be used for college credit. There are excellent public schools out there. It can be difficult to find them. The best schools tend to be in areas where the parents have had a high level of education and are demanding a lot from the school. It has nothing to do with spending the most money. Our school is spending an average amount per student. You can always home school your children after school. I use the standard test results to find out where my kids are weak and fill in the gaps.

I went to public school and managed to find Ron Paul. I remember taking a consumer and media class in high school. We learned about marketing, media bias, and subliminal messages. It is probably why I rarely watch TV. I can't even read an article or book now without thinking about what point of view it is coming from.

Homeschooling is not the solution for everyone. How is a parent in the inner city that has difficulty reading and writing supposed to home school their children? I know a private school teacher that pulled her son out of school for a year to home school him. He came back and had to repeat 3rd grade. Many parents have no ability to teach.
