Ron Paul endorses Tom McClintock(?), who said Paul "is Not Presidential Timbre".
As many of you did, I received the following email from Ron Paul regarding CA state senator Tom McClintock.
However, I don't think Paul has scrutinized Tom McClintock's endorsements and consistent record of caving in to the neocon GOP establishment.
Interesting that Ron Paul would endorse CA state senator McClintock, who supported neocon CFR member FRED THOMPSON for president! Even after Thompson dropped out of the race, I personally asked Senator McClintock live on KGO radio if he would now endorse Ron Paul for president. McClintock said NO, that he's 'not sure if Ron Paul is presidential timbre', and that he has 'reservations' about him. AUDIO HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BggZShx0-VU#
McClintock has also endorsed a string of other neocon 'establishment's men' candidates. I was a supporter of mcclintock for governor against schwarzenegger in 2003 and have followed McClintock's record very closely.
Additionally, on the official Tom McClintock youtube page linked from his website, is McClintock's latest video "Charlie was there" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrJeU03dmp8 . It is from a clearly neocon point of view, speaking with disdain of so-called 'left wing anti war radicals'. (Not only falsely suggesting that so-called 'left wingers' are the only people against undeclared premptive wars, but also that any criticism of our current foreign policy somehow 'hurts the troops'.)

Tom McClintock had previously stated that Ron Paul is the closest candidate to the founding fathers. (link to this audio is below.) Then McClintock, who had ran against Schwarzenegger for governor, changed his tune and endorsed neocon scum Fred Thompson. I called Tom and asked him if he'd endorse Ron Paul.
I sent AN OPEN LETTER TO TOM MCCLINTOCK regarding Ron Paul, available here http://libertyfight.741.com/letter.html
I later sent a letter to McClintock regarding 9/11/01, here http://libertyfight.741.com/mcclintock911.html
McClintock, who I campaigned for in 2003 when he ran against degenerate scum gun-grabber Arnold Schwarzenegger, is currently running for U.S. Congress in northern CA. McClintock, to the dismay of many of his former supporters, endorsed Schwarzenegger for governor in 2006, endorsed pro-war neocon republican hack John Campbell for congress, and then embraced CFRed Thompson. Despite McClintock's abysmal trail of endorsements, his voting record is that of strict constitutionalist and supporter of freedom and limited government. Read his speech FREEDOM AND FIREARMS and you will see what I mean. I conclude that McClintock is a very weak man, easily subject to GOP party pressure.

Subject: My friend Tom McClintock needs your help
Dear Friend:
Last week, I asked many of you to help me support my friend Tom McClintock in his bid to join me in Washington. You responded, and sent him some crucial funds as he pushes hard to stand up for the Constitution in Washington. Thank you so much for your generosity.
Tom McClintock is one of the most promising warriors in the fight against big government we have seen in a long time, and the specials interests and big bankers know it. Just last week, over $500,000 in outside money has been funneled into Tom's district to support his opponent in this tight race. I am asking you again to dig down deep and send Tom whatever additional help you can.
Will you help Tom McClintock with your generous online contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even the legal maximum of $2,300? http://www.helptom.com/donate You can also send your donation directly to Tom at McClintock for Congress, 1029 K Street Ste 44, Sacramento CA 95814. Tom also needs all the volunteer support and energy you, your friends and family might provide.
You have stood with me as I campaigned for the Presidency to return our federal government to its proper role. Will you help me bring a reliableally to Congress?
Many thanks for all you have done.
In Liberty,
Ron Paul

Hmm, weird
I supported McClintock in 2003 also when all the other "Republicans" were in favor of Schwarzenegger. I remember telling them back then that he was hardly conservative, but they supported him anyway because "he had a better chance than McClintock".

Remember
after Thompson dropped out, McClintock stated publicly in an article reported at LA Times before Super Tuesday that he was tending Paul and if he would have to vote that day, he would vote for Paul. Also, consider it may be possible Thompson has seen the light in the meantime, as he knows Paul better. Look there are anti-war conservatives, anti-war liberals and anti-war leftwing wacho's as well. Not all the anti-war voters are the same! McClintock said he would make any new war dependent on the constitution. McClintock also appeared on a video presentation at the Rally for the Republic. A while ago there was an interview with McClintock at reason where his connecton to Paul was also referred to. McClintock noted that he is also in favor of the gold standard or a commodity-based currency. How many other politicians apart from Dr. Paul would you publicly hear stating this, or understanding the negatives of fiat currency. Not all Libertarians understand or support this as well. He is a solid fiscal and social conservative. You seldom get someone in politics that you agree with 100%. The fact that McClintock stated publicly he is in favor of a commodity standard is a BIG plus.
you make some good points
I told someone that even with all considered and outlined in McClintock's record here, he would still make a better congressman than almost everyone (Paul excluded) currently in Congress. That's the sad reality.
Keep in mind that I am criticizing Tom from a non-compromise point of view. He has shown that he WILL cave easily. Why and how could anyone of principle POSSIBLY, EVER endorse Arnold in '06 after Arnold had called for open borders, gun control and numerous socialist programs?
One clarification, I questioned Tom on KGO at least a week AFTER he stated he was considering Paul.
But you're right, as the current situation indicates, Tom would be better than probably anyone else running. I havent heard his position on the iraq war or patriot act., warrantless spying, etc.
You can probably sense the ambivalence I have towards McClintock.

"All men in power should be distrusted.." -James Madison
Yes, good points as well
He probably endorsed Arnold as Arnold asked him for it and most definitely not because he agrees with everything of his policy, just like Dr. Paul would not agree with everything of certain people he would endorse. I heard a radio interview with McClintock where he criticized Arnold's late reaction to the financial situation and said he would have acted long time ago. We all know Arnold is a RINO, I think he started OK as governor, but was probably influenced all the more by his wife. McClintock and Schwarzenegger clearly disagree on certain issues, like illegal immigration, fiscal conservatism etc. He probably supported Arnold as he consider him to be less damaging than the Democratic opponent.
Also consider, McClintock said McCain was not on his secord, third forth or fifth list for presidential candidate, while McCain was number one on Schwarzenegger's, as he endorsed him before Super Tuesday. McClintock is also strong pro-life, while Schwarzenegger pro-choice.

I know McCLintock is quite a libertarian and there were instances where he considered on running on the LP ticket in the past as well.
Take a look at this more recent article (after he made the previous comments on Paul):
http://spectator.org/blog/2008/06/24/breakfast-with-tom-mccl...
McClintock displayed a clear libertarian streak on a number of issues. He said he wasn't sure about whether he'd vote for the FISA law. While doesn't think the Bill of Rights applies to overseas, he has civil liberties questions.
He had warm words for Ron Paul, saying that he agrees with much of his message, including his support for a return to the gold standard. He even was in agreement with Paul on some foreign policy issues, including that President Bush should have sought a declaration of war after 9/11 in accordance to the Constitution. He gave off the impression that he didn't support the initial invasion of Iraq, but said that he supported the surge because now that American troops are in harm's way, it's important that we give them all the resources they need to win".
A reliableally?
What's a realiableally? And why do we want to bring one to congress? Is that like a realiabilly? Or a hillbilly?
Reliable ally
tough one
Suppose Ron Paul did NOT
Suppose Ron Paul did NOT endorse him? That letter might have been written by somebody else in staff..?
SUPPORT OUR FOUNDERS' AMERICA

SUPPORT OUR FOUNDERS' AMERICA
Support the Constitution of the United States
That's what I'm guessing
Someone is abusing a mailing list, when RP publicly endorses a candidate like BJ Lawson it's obvious, but with McClintock all we have is this fake email claiming an endorsement. Next time I get an email telling me to donate to McClintock, I'm unsubscribing from that list.
Perhaps Ron Paul endorsed
Perhaps Ron Paul endorsed him in that race because he was the least offensive of the candidates running? For instance, I'm betting he's facing an opponent on the democrat side who's for amnesty for illegal aliens and more or less pro-illegal immigration, thats how most california democrats are. Myself, I'd much rather McClintock win(since he does seem serious about stopping illegal immigration and stopping amnesty for illegal aliens) than a pro-illegal immigration pro-illegal alien amnesty democrat win. Sure, it would be nice if a canadidate like Ron Paul was running in that race for Ron Paul to endorse.
