Schoolhouse Rock

1 vote

I'm dating myself, but does anyone remember Schoolhouse Rock? If not, check out the link http://www.school-house-rock.com/Prea.html
Gives me chills and flashbacks to when I was a kid singing the Constitution song. Just another idea how to get us forty-somethings back into the Patriotic spirit that we grew up with every Saturday morning in our youth. Trust me on this one...and sing along. Hope this link worked...I'm web-challenged.

Schoolhouse imperialism

Don't forget the pro-imperialism Schoolhouse Rock short "Elbow Room" that glorified the subjugation of Native Americans and advocated U.S. claiming the moon for itself.

I used a still from toward the end of the astronauts flexing their elbows as the icon for my "imperialism" topic when I ran my blog underreported.com

I have the box set as well.

Have you all seen The Simpsons parody of I'm Just A Bill? It bothers me to laff at it because it's funny, but unfortunately it's so true:

Lyrics to Amendment-to-Be

Boy: (spoken) Hey, who left all this garbage lying on the steps of Congress?
Amendment: (spoken) I'm not garbage.
(sung) I'm an amendment to be,
Yes, an amendment to be,
And I'm hoping that they'll ratify me,
There's a lot of flag burners,
Who have got too much freedom,
I wanna make it legal,
For policemen to beat 'em,
'Cause there's limits to our liberties.
'Least I hope and pray that there are,
'Cause those liberal freaks go too far.
Boy: (spoken) But why can't we just make a law against flag burning?
Amendment: (spoken) Because that law would be unconstitutional.
But if we changed the Constitution...
Boy: (spoken) Then we could make all sorts of crazy laws!
Amendment: (spoken) Now you're catching on!

Brief breakaway as Bart and Lisa comment on what they're seeing.

Boy: (spoken) But what if they say you're not good enough to be in the Constitution?
Amendment: (sung) Then I'll destroy all opposition to me,
And I'll make Ted Kennedy pay,
If he fights back,
I'll say that he's gay!
Fat Senator: (running up) Good news, Amendment! They ratified 'ya. You're in the U.S. Constitution!
Amendment: (spoken, estatic) Oh, yeah! Door's open, boys!

Many bills and amendments run in, behaving wildly and shooting guns; bombs fly everywhere. The crowd cheers enthusiastically as the Senator lifts the boy and the Amendment on his shoulders; both raise their hands triumphantly.

I'm just a bill

Yes!

I remember those, too! I loved them and always felt like I was learning something while being entertained. They should have made more. I had them all memorized. Hey... Let's do some for Ron Paul! What a creative way to introduce his ideas to children, and for us adults to enjoy, too. Or a comic book series? The thing I love about RP supporters is they are so creative and enthusiastic. Always thinking.
