Civil Unrest & Gangs Likely to Riot on Election Day -- Police Prepare

NOTE: I recognize that the previous title may be offensive, but I changed it again because I think it's important that people know that the ensuing disorder will be larger than just a few gangs.

This is not racism people, this is recent news and sadly a part of reality. Be informed and get prepared:

Police departments in cities across the country are beefing up their ranks for Election Day, preparing for possible civil unrest and riots after the historic presidential contest.

Public safety officials said in interviews with The Hill that the election, which will end with either the nation’s first black president or its first female vice president, demanded a stronger police presence.

Some worry that if Barack Obama loses and there is suspicion of foul play in the election, violence could ensue in cities with large black populations. Others based the need for enhanced patrols on past riots in urban areas (following professional sports events) and also on Internet rumors.

“We’re prepared for the best-case scenario, we’re prepared for the worst-case scenario,” he said. “The worst-case scenario could be a situation that requires law enforcement.”

But Tate declined to describe what the worst-case scenario might look like, speaking gingerly like other police officials who are wary of implying that black voters are more likely than other voting groups to cause trouble.

Gang Violence Could Mar Victory

As police and secret service agents lock down Chicago's city centre for what could be Barack Obama's presidential party, many fear the event will be marred by gang violence.

More than a million people are said to be planning to celebrate the expected election of the first black President of the United States.

Just 65,000 will be allowed inside a security cordon to see Obama on stage inside the city's scenic Grant Park, which borders the shores of Lake Michigan.

But hundreds of thousands more are expected in the vicinity, and there are fears that whether Obama wins or loses, looting and gun violence will flare.

"I hope to God I'm wrong, but there are 7,000 known gang members in Chicago and they aren't going to miss an opportunity like this," saysPaul Huebl, a former police officer in the city and now a respected author and crime blogger.

"Police officers will be gravely outnumbered and outgunned and placed in danger. There is no way to protect businesses. Parents and kids are going to think they're going to a party and they're going to end up getting hurt," he told me.
