URGENT - To supporters in Democratic districts of Michigan!
The Michigan primary is in danger of canceling the January primary. This would result in the Republicans choosing the candidate at a party convention instead of a popular vote. If we want to maintain an open and free election in Michigan, we must act now to encourage our state legislature to clear passage of the changes required to continue the primary.
A little background:
"On Tuesday the State Senate and House are scheduled to meet to enact legislation that would salvage the January 15th Presidential Primary which was declared “unconstitutional” by Ingham Circuit Judge William Collette. The Judge ruled that the provision in the primary law giving voter records ONLY to the Republican and Democratic Parties amounted to an appropriation of public property for private use, which under the State Constitution requires a two-thirds majority vote. The House vote on the Primary bill fell seven votes short of that standard. Therefore, the Judge’s ruling voided the Primary because the law made all provisions nonseverable."
From an e-mail from Eric Larson:
"Contact your senator to urge them to revisit the issue and move for immediate effect. If your senator is a Republican, then you should call them but be aware that they all voted in favor of preserving the primary. Only Democrats opposed putting the amended version into 'immediate effect'. For us on the west side, there is really no one to contact except to thank our senators and urge them to not give up. However, if nothing happens by Tuesday, likely the whole issue is over and moot."
So if you are from a democratic district, please check out the following:
PLEASE contact your State Senator and State Representative today!!

Ask YOUR legislators to do two things:
1. Support giving IMMEDIATE EFFECT to House Bill No. 4507 so that all the logistics connected with a Presidential Primary can be accomplished in time for a January 15th vote. Important: a 2/3 majority vote in the House is necessary to give the bill Immediate Effect. Without 2/3 vote from the House the bill may be stalled until as late as November 21 or even December 1.
2. Write a letter to the leadership of their respective political parties (Republican or Democrat) urging them to take part in the Primary.
This information has been shared throughout the Michigan meetup groups, but if there are those who are not involved in a meetup group, I wanted you to know that we need help in Michigan!

After all those commercials about how great Michigan is....
Seems like it's business as usual for the two party system. The real loser...the people of Michigan and roundaboutly...Americans as a whole.

Primary on but keep up the gentle push on the democrats
Well, Rick just stole my thunder but it looks like the primary is back on. It is not official yet so those of you with democratic reps and senators - politely call them and express your desire for the people of the state of Michigan to select their presidential nominee.
Also, it is likely that when the bill is 'fixed', it will include all the democratic candidates again on the ballot (ie Obama, Richardson, etc).
Michigan Primary Update
A word from Eric Larson again:
Primary Update
----------------------
About 15 of us attended the Kent County GOP meeting and the state chair, Saul Anuzis, was there. He finished speaking to the governor's office and the democratic leadership and they all seem very committed to hosting a primary. The executive committee of the Democratic party is about 68% or so in favor of a primary. In fact, everyone but the Edwards folks want one. So expect that when the legislature reconvenes in the next week or so, it will take up the primary plan and make sure that it happens on January 15th. Whether or not the party leaders keep a private list of voters is up for debate - but that does not concern us.
Thanks,
Eric Larson

What if..?
Is there a possibility Dr. Paul would be more likely to be selected in convention?
Just wondering.. Is it something to consider? (Our system of democracy is highly overrated.)
I would still be completely
I would still be completely against it because it takes more power out of the peoples hands.
I just took action!
I have already emailed and phoned 3 different democratic representatives.

I know I am not supposed to bump...
... but this is truly an important announcement that requires attention. I just wish I lived in a Democrat district so I could put pressure on my legislature representatives.
What happened to Republic.
Time to act!
