Submitted by rftbunny on Mon, 11/12/2007 - 18:16Can i please get any of your comments on this? I put this thing together with some friends and we are thinking about starting a blog ... the video is short .. and the writing is not too long (short news article length)... i think it's inspirational ...
Very Ron Paul Like

please tell me what you think =]

I agree with the message 100%, however ....
Just a few suggestions:
Since the message is a bit stark, end it on a positive note. That being, Ron Paul is "hope for America" and has what is needed to move the country forward and avoid these pifalls.
Target your market. The web is definitely the vehicle for this message, not the MSM.
Hope this helps,

I cringe
I think RR was a clown and this is from a Republican. He was the biggest union buster of all time. I thought he was crazy when he fired all the airport control tower workers. He's an example of what we are fighting against. The thought that a President could interfere so much in business and then be praised just blows my mind. Ronnie was "good with people" just as Bush is "good with people."
As for his Trickle Down Theory? I don't have the time to tell you how great that's worked out!
I cringe (and cuss) every time his name is mentioned.
Do what you want, but I never fell for his line. And, for the record, I NEVER voted for Bush #1 for the simple fact that he was CIA. And I NEVER voted for Bush #2 because I could plainly see he was an idiot!
I passed on commenting yesterday, but you kept asking for it!
It's a great speech to focus on... but
The RR speech is an excellent speech, but the big challenge I see with it is, at the end of the day (as some others have noted), RR's administration didn't follow through with much of it's early talk. It is of course debatable why that was, but the fact is that it was. Some may watch this and say "yeah, RR talked a good game, but he didn't bring it to the table." One of RPs biggest strengths in this campaign is that you can't find another politician anywhere that has the consistency in voting record with the consistency of message over such a long period of time. All that said, marketing professional I am not, so take it as my $.02.
The other big thing I would 2nd from some other posters is to avoid the comedy and cheap shots. You obviously put effort into making a very serious and engaging piece--"King George" may as well be Yosemite Sam. Some of the postive comments I am finding for RP in recent days (boy that $4+M got some people writing) is that he is infallably courteous and will not even participate in easy cheap shots when they are served up for him. We would do well to adhere to that standard when we are encouraging people to discover RP for themselves.
Last thing is I felt like some pieces of it flew by me and I didn't get a chance to take it all in. Take a page out of alot of the other successful vid's out there that use the simple-message-on-the-screen-for-a-few-seconds approach to give the consumer time to absorb, and also to set things up and reinforce key points.
I just wish I had half the skills to do this sort of thing that you and so many others are out there doing.

My question would be -
Why the comparison to Reagan? Has Ron Paul actually compared himself to Reagan? I don't remember seeing any interview or discussion in which Paul has praised the Reagan administration for its successes in economic or foreign relation matters. Reagan begain the large spending spree for which Republicans were never known. Reagan begain the Neocon like foreign policies that Paul deplores. Reagan likened himself to a group of terrorists "I am a Contra", partially because he was totally ignorant of why his administration was carrying out the policies that he was never able to defend unless he was reading from a telepromter. Reagan was in fact the first of modern presidents to be elected as mere figurehead for an agenda that was neocon in basis and produced some the of neocons who became dominate in the Bush administration. His popularity while he was president was never very high and it has been only by the media's constant hounding through the years of his "goodness" that has made it seem as though he was a delight for the country. He traded guns for hostages for cying out loud... that is well documented and by the way - unconstitutional. I would be surprised if Ron Paul would choose to be compared to Reagan in any manner. BTW - technically the clip was pretty good - I just don't care for Reagan...

understandable ... everyone
understandable ... everyone is not perfect and everyone does not need to like reagan ... in my view his priorities and ideas made sense but were subject to manipulation over time ... my connection between RP and RR is that they both had their heads screwed on at one point and actually cared about the direction of the country ... Ron was an early reagan supporter ... i bet not on every issue but on most he was one of the few to endorse him ... i believe reagan would endorse ron as well
it is a message that we can can solve all of our problems by re-evaluating our past decisions ... not by bombing a country to death and then pretending what you did was good for america
RP has been been pretty consistent with his message
so let's not stray too far from what RP has been saying in every interview and debate for the last 6 months. The issues he has raised are not that many really and any way we can focus on those issues would be a plus. We can assume that the campaign would like to be associated with the past heroes we worshiped but like we agreed upon - no one is perfect and RP has admitted that HE is not perfect but the MESSAGE is. So take HIS lead and let's devote our valuable time to embelish the MESSAGE and not the personalities.
and let's all take some time to learn about this DELEGATE process! More articles on this - please...

Typographical critique
I don't know how difficult it is to change the typeface at this point, but Poplar which you appear to be using because of its bold, condensed look, comes across a little too comical and charming to me. Your message would be taken much more seriously using a something more neutral such as Helvetica Condensed Black. Also please find the comment below about keeping it positive.
Interesting
Liked the tie-in with Ronald Reagan, he really stood for smaller government. The tie-in to the big gov. candidates was good too.
But that man should play the tyrant over God, and find Him a better man than himself, is astonishing drama indeed!~~D. Sayers

I urge you to consider
focusing on the positive.
Thanks to the media we are neck deep in sad, dark news each day. This campaign is about hope. Dr. Paul is our man, not Ronald Reagan.
Your message is well made, but is infused with Dark images and symbols.
I want to see what Dr. Paul is going to do to make all of the messages and symbols in your film a distant memory.
I know a little about marketing, so take what I am about to say with a grain of salt.
People don't have time to sit quietly and absorb your film. They just pick up the symbols and some of the sound and click on to the next.
In your film:
I remember Reagan's stern voice warning me I'm gonna die. I remember nazi's marching and a silent view of Dr. Paul smiling. If I didn't know any better, I would assume you are trying to link Dr. Paul with these negative images.
Keep in mind that, by nature, human beings are hopeful. This is what to aim for when seeking to make an emotional connection with your viewers.
The films that seem to touch us use rock music and hopeful images of our country. I am not advising you to use these specific tools, I am merely stating what other film makers have used to successfully touch their viewers.
I am not going to vote for Dr. Paul out of fear, I am going to vote for him because I perceive him to be our best hope.
Good luck with your work!

thank you for your comment
thank you for your comment sire .. i understand that on the surface they seem negative but that is not the overall message ... however i see your point... as we continue to develop the site, it will be infused with much more hopeful messages. i was just comparing the two horrible times and showing their parallels and how ron is here to help us out and stick up for us
RE: comments

The Winds of Change!
thanks
thanks ... it does not have any ron paul content on there yet because it was a first draft for the site ... sorry ... it will though and the connection will become much more clear ... thanks for the constructive criticism ...
I really like it
Here's a couple of things that struck me:
VIDEO
1. The written text at when he says "up or down" distract from the power of Regan's words. I'd eliminate them or make them less prominent.
2. I'd get rid of the shopped "King George" picture. I don't think it goes with the seriousness of the words. It is almost comical.
TEXT
The text has a lot of good points but in some spots it is a little wordier than it needs to be. For instance the first paragraph doesn't grab me. Maybe change it to something like:
I'm on my way out, but if you want more editing help, e-mail me and I'll look at it a little more for you.
I'm on my way out, but if you'd like e-mail me and I look at it a little more for you.
thanks for your comments sir
thanks for your comments sir .. i didn't make the video .. the writing is a response to the full speech ... that 2 minutes segment is a selection of the speech.. the full speech is linked under it
The Speech
Reagan's "the speech" is your centerpiece. I assume by that you wish to show that Ron Paul is truly conservative. As a casual observer I do not see the overt connection. I only see the connection due to my prior familiarity with RP issues, not because of what I see at your website.
I think weaving in RP's message and showing the similarities is useful to bring many up to speed and will better realize your objective. You can also in this way weave in present day quotes from the "front runners" to show who really is conservative and who is not. There are also a couple really good clips of G.W. promoting the foreign policy of no nation building and non-intervention in his 2000 candidacy to contrast how far the GOP has strayed from its origins in such little time.

..Without the truth we have nothing
This speech was well written and well delivered...
although I personaly question if Regan delivered the promise it held out.
Nonetheless, I have watched Ron Paul for years and have never been anything but awed by the integrity and intellectual honesty of the man. He means what he says and is not one to compromise for expediency.
Ron Paul will lead this nation by following Dame Liberty. Care to come along? If you do your decendents will bless you for your courage and your fortitude.

Well.....
Its good, but might be a little overbearing.Put a little more hope in the mix, a positive spin. You know I love that Reagan speech!
I think it's great, keep up
