Stock manipulation today?

Does anyone else find it odd that stocks are hovering steadily up between 150-200? After the bad earnings reports and layoffs planned from Ford? Obama is speaking this afternoon. I'll bet that's why they are propping up the market today. » |

rate cut
I talked to my brother who was following the markets all day, and he said there was another mention of a rate cut before the December meeting. That seems to be the reason the market would jump with all the dire news

I was going to post my own similar thread.
The market seems to react to nothing....and everything. And not in the proper manner as you think it would. On bad news, you would expect the market to drop like a stone. Instead, it inexplicably goes up.
The day we elect a new leader by public majority (if you believe you really voted) the market should go up. Instead, it falls off a cliff.
I don't know enough about the markets to understand how it can be manipulated like that but I would imagine if several large conglomerates bought or sold on any given day, the desired result would occur.
That's why I'm not in the markets....

There is stock manipulation EVER DAY
there is media manipulation every day.
There is all manipulation every day.
When someone says they are "losing control"...that too is a form of manipulation.
If you are scared that is what they want.
Because if you are scared they can get you to agree to ANYTHING.
Wild markets?
Have you noticed that OUR banks and investment houses are being TAKEN OVER by foreign banks and investment houses?
Do you think this is some kind of MISTAKE?
Bush is meeting with foreign leaders about OUR economy.
You are in a movie...get up and walk into the lobby...Ron Paul is waiting in the lobby and he is telling everyone who has realized that it is a movie and has gone to the lobby not to believe the movie.
The market flopping around is meant to scare you and it is working....get out of the movie theatre...we are waiting for you out on the sidewalk....everything is going to be OK.
Put down the popcorn...step away from the popcorn...it is all right....it is just a movie.
Once we have enough people out on the sidewalk the movie house will be almost empty and the movie house will go out of business and we will be free.
There are just a few of "them." There are billions of us. Therefore...we win.

There is no way of knowing!
With volumes so light, a few hedge funds can be influential. Also, insiders get stats like the jobs report earlier than the release date. For instance even though it is announced on a Friday, it can "whispered" several days in advance. After two days of huge drops it is not unusual to have a rebound rally.

It should be dropping like a stone now. Nikkei did badly last night, if I'm not mistaken. The auto companies are collapsing. Retail sales for Christmas are already limping at the starting gate.
All that adds up to tampering, or Plunge Protection Team, as we call it. It completely defies logic to come to any other conclusion.
It's true that we wallow in conspiracies a little too much. But this is stock market tampering...no question.

Always assuming manipulation?
The DOW dropped 900 points Wed-Thursday. The Ford and GM problems are not new news. Every time you see a 900 point move in 2 days, up or down, assume that a rebound is going to happen.
What do you think about the war on drugs?

it defies logic today for it to be so steady after such bad numbers were reported and the Nikkei is way down.
It doesn't defy logic
Logic says that when stocks drop almost 10% in 2 days, bargain hunters begin to buy because they feel they are underpriced.
As far as the Nikkei...keep in mind which economy relies on which. They dropped last night because we tumbled on Thursday. It's follow the leader, and the Japanese are followers.

The following chart settings all for S&P mini.
12,000 tick
8,000 tick
6,000 tick
5,000 tick
3,000 tick and of course the Daily chart.
At 2:28 pm the manipulatiors popped it up to trigger sell stops above the day's range. Then at 2:48 they sold hard into the buying.
So far it's not a long hard sell off, but I think it's going to keep working it way down until 4pm.
I don't see any support for at least the next hour.
