Happy Hallow-Christmas????

0 votes

Below is a copy of my latest blog, and I think it says a lot about where we are as a society, philosophically and economically. Of course we don't need another example of the sheep-like mentality of America, but this has really irritated me.... does anyone think for themselves out there anymore?? As a my friend "nashvillejohn" pointed out: "I think its a sign of the desperation retailers are in that they try to convince people its XMAS time."

"Happy Hallow-Christmas???

Is it just me, or has the world gone entirely insane? The day after Halloween (that's right.... the DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN) I walked into Wal-Mart and they had a huge CHRISTMAS tree up in the entrance area and "Silver Bells" was playing on the store's music system. Now, I don't want to come off as a scrooge here, and maybe I'm out of line, but what the hell is up with that????

I've noticed a trend over the last few years, and that trend is that the retail establishment has pretty much come up with some 'holiday' or other to cover the whole year. Just when you get through one retail wallet rape, they have the next one already on deck. This year, however, marks the first time that I've seen one 'holiday' jump line in front of another. We haven't eaten all the Halloween candy yet, or gotten through the akwardness of our annual Thanksgiving dinners, and they're already putting the pressure on us to by more sh#t for people, just because we think they're going to buy more sh#t for us, because they're afraid we're going to buy more sh#t for them and everyone is afraid of looking like the person who is left without a chair when the X-mas music stops.

So, I'm calling an 'offsides' this year. If I want Christmas the day after Halloween, I'll go to Gatilinburg and go to one of those year- round Christmas stores and break out in hives there. Anyone else?"

When my kids were young, we always looked forward to the season, sometimes marked by the appearance of in-store Christmas items. It was fun! Now I don't care much about what the stores do, though I smiled a bit walking by a display today.

We can "cause" the free market economy to work for us....

Our country is being run by bankers who make the corporate rules that support only the very large corporations that have balance sheets that rival other nations. Both the Democrats and Republicans have now joined in this hypocrisy with the promise of being able to expand there own empire building via the collaboration of the money making machine that the Central bank operates. The banking system is essentially a true illegal cartel of monopolist greed supported by the big corporations and added and abetted by the Republican and Democratic parties. They feed off of the people of this nation and are looking to expand there parasitic greed to the rest of the world.

Given this cozy and mutually symbiotic relationship of empire building between our government, the banking cartel and the huge corporations and a beautiful thing called the Patriot Act they are now able to do what the need and police us into our place as slaves to pay there bailouts and mistakes not to mention buy the do dads that help finance this machine of profits.

Once we begin to recognize the mechanics behind this fractionated monetary system and the ease of having us pay for there failures we may begin to see the Achilles heal needed to weaken the beast and help to topple it over.

The weakness is the fact that like all businesses the banks and corporations need to keep up there profits. I am asking you....how can we destabilize this system and "Cause" it to collapse. The answer is starring us right in the face!

I would recommend we take each part of this system and find its weaknesses and form a plan. We all know that our chance to regain this Republic will come if we weaken the very system that is controlling us.

I propose we take each part of this three headed beast and list its weaknesses. I recommend looking at it as 4 parts for us to organize our lists and thoughts of the weaknesses. I say 4 because Big Media is the reality making machine that is key to there success.

4 parts:
1. Banking system
2. Large corporations (need to define who these are. I am already working on a list but could use some help)
3. Democrat and Republican party
4. Big Media

I think this is an important key to our success.

Thanks docholladay for this post because it has made clear an important step in the taking back of our country!

Great article,

maybe you should put it on digg. I think I want to tell my family one small gift and leave it at that. I think people are turned off of Christmas because of all the hype. I go to garage sales and you wouldn't believe the amount of Christmas decorations and they just sit there. My son tells me he's an atheist now, geesh, Fa la la.

corporate retail stores are panicking

they know their times are coming ,and they will no longer be able to monopolize the free market with their living off credit to run their businesses.

Devil's Advocate

The reason it seems Christmas has come so darned early this year is that all retailers are putting their eggs in that basket. The discount stores (KMart, WalMart, Target, Costco, etc) are doing more of it than ever, and if you'll notice KMart even has the commercial in some markets about lay-away and doing Christmas shopping really super early so you can pay it off that way and pick it up at the store, versus buying online and charging it to your credit card.

It's my hope that retailers will be justly struck by a horrible "holiday season" this year and restructure themselves to provide what we want, how we want it, instead of thinking they're pleasing people just because the herd has had magic plastic for years and has used it at their box stores.

I feel sorry for the retailers this year,

especially the smaller, family owned stores. I think it's going to be a pretty bleak season and I suspect many will go under. I know we are cutting way back on Christmas purchases. I don't like to see the Christmas decorations, etc., out so early - the day after Thanksgiving would be fine with me, but I can't blame the stores for getting an early start, particularly this year.

I actually remember

when three weeks was early and two weeks was right on time.

I too was shocked to see mall decorations up the day after Halloween outside.

I remember those days

Two weeks before Christmas is when we put up our tree and began shopping...
Thanksgiving is a "forgotten" holiday...no money to be made on that one.
Christmas is so overdone, I'm usually sick of it by the time it actually arrives.

Yep

Then when the malls started putting up decorations the day after Thanksgiving, everyone was aghast!

Christmas sucks, and I am a Christian.

I agree, spend time with family not money.

I agree iehuvihs and

also, just to get the facts straight, Jesus was not born in December but either in late September or very early October.

X-Mas has nothing to do with Christ! It's about money and causing young ones to believe in a lie. How sad!

I don't even call it what you all call it, I call it X-Mas and you are very very correct in your thoughts about it iehuvihs!

I hate it too!

For anyone who shares my hatred of Xmas music in the stores (especially as early as Sept/October) you would probably enjoy the three TWISTED CHRISTMAS discs -- and from the tracks we've all heard on the radio, they're pretty dang funny. I also like Kyle's "A Lonely Jew on Christmas," Cartman's cattle-prod rendition of "O Holy Night," Mr. Garrison's "Merry F'in Christmas" (also from South Park), Tom Lehrer's "A Christmas Carol" , Run-DMC's "Christmas in Hollis," Bob and Doug MacKenzie's "12 Days of Christmas" ("On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me -- a beer"), and the Kinks' "Father Christmas." Also, I always welcome Adam Sandler's two Chanukah songs. As for the other muzak, I'm all for dumping it into a large hole, setting it on fire, and peeing on the flames.

Only after Halloween

where you live? We've had Christmas stuff out since September when the Halloween stuff started coming out. It was funny I looked through a toy catalog that came in the mail the other day and it was supposed to be this great constructive playthings, and i was disgusted with it. I have been working on recreating the holidays for my family. For two years now we have had a halloween party on Halloween , no trick or treating, my boys get to dress up, we paint pumpkins and play games and have a good time. I still like Thanksgiving because it is a time for getting together with the extended family and expressing our thanks for the people in our lives. At Christmas we decorate a tree but there isn't much presents, and my oldest knows that Santa isn't real, it is just our way to give him a special present. My sister and I made baked goods last year for all our family and friends and we are doing it again this year. Plus my oldest and I made home made christmas cards the last two years and we are doing it again. We don't have to go the corporate holiday route, we need to start making them ours again.

Earlier than ever

I thought I was seeing things. They had full blown huge decorated Christmas trees up in the major department stores here before Halloween. Maybe it has to do with the fact they are expecting a dismal retail season this year and want to start the shopping as soon as possible. I think I even heard they are starting with the 50% off sales. I try to stay as far away from all of the holiday hype as I can.

I agree

I also would like to be able to go into a store and buy a pair of gloves when it is cold, and a pair of shorts when it is hot. Instead if you want to buy gloves you have to get them in the summer and buy the shorts in the winter. My point being stores aren't really in tune with what we want and when we want it.

I would also like to be able to go into the garden section and find garden stuff, not Christmas decorations.

Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.

Absoutely. Most of my

Absoutely. Most of my family has said screw that noise over the last couple of years. I've got kids, so I think it's cool and exciting for them, within reason, but outside of that it's just trading $$$. A couple of years ago I made the suggestion that next year we all just stand in a circle and pass a $100 bill to the left... that way everyone gives $100 and gets $100...LOL. We're not Christian (or any other religion) so that angle doesn't fly, and to me it's one of the most blatant examples of exploiting people's 'faith' for commericial reasons. Bah-humbug!

were up well before halloween here.

I noticed... noticed last year too...

Each year, the season starts earlier.

I've walked out of stores because they were playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I turn off radio stations who start playing the music too early.

Chistmas starts when I say it does, not when they want it to.
