Ive been to Dubai! A Muslim country. Why didnt they kill me?
Ive read so many disgusting comments in the Obama Muslim thread. How Muslims have 2 versions of the Quran where they have the version that calls them to kill white people with them.
I dont believe that garbage for a second, since Im reading the Quran. But schockingly someone said go visit Muslim countries and see how evil they are.
Ive been to Dubai. None there tried to kill me. Infact they are some of the nicest people Ive ever met. I was treated better than Id like to be treated in the US. Infact in a place like Dubai it is not the local Arabs you should fear, rather you should fear the expatriots & guest workers, since most crime comes from their communities. Ofcourse its a very safe country. Also marked 38 among 121 countries in terms of peace and safety.
According to some people here being white is a death sentence in Muslim countries. This cultural ignorance or may I say purposeful ignorance is sickening. My friend has been to Jordan and says its one of the nicest places in the world. The King of Jordan is a son of an American mother I think, who happened to look more like a European than an Arab. His people still didnt rip him apart last I heard.

I'm a pagan, in fact a pantheist. I love the Greco-Roman mythology most. It makes more sense to me to direct a prayer towards certain god or goddess well suited to hear my plea. In fact I was well regarded for my knowledge of local deities when I was there. And as well while I am here.

Lived in Saudi...and loved it!
I'm a Marine Corps vet who lived in Saudi Arabia for a year after separating from the service, my wife lived there for four years. Both of us enjoyed our time there. Yes it's a different culture but when you boil it down most of them just want to raise their families and be left alone...sound familiar.
We loved it so much that we are actually looking to go back to the region, Saudi or UAE. This time we would be taking our two children with us. I was just waiting to see who was elected and what there foreign policy was going to look like.

And Mickey made a good point with this thread. Go to these countries; talk with the people (many of them speak English); trade with them. Be as respectful as you expect them to be respectful visiting your country. And you may be surprised to find good and honest people everywhere.

Its very common to see men holding hands
and doing the kiss on the cheek thing - I dont think gay people would have a hard time over there as long as they were discreet - and they wouldnt have to be as discreet as they are in alot of communities here.
My wife has vacationed in Tunisia with my Aunt - they both love the place and the people - they are both respectful of local customs and do wear more clothes than when they are here - wouldnt you want people respecting your customs when they are visiting your community?

well she was only in a small section of Dubai
and only for a few days. she was there as a diplomat so they couldn't do anything to her of course. she dressed as she usually does (jeans or pants and a shirt) instead of the muslim black tunic/thing that all women there must wear. men looked at her as if she was a walking pile of shit. however, she just looked at them back instead of looking down like women there are told to, so that kind of threw them back and they didnt know how to react to that.
now granted, she's not gay or transvestite so i can only imagine what would happen to someone who is.
in my conversations with an iranian (never spoek to a saudi personally), he made it clear that they see gays there like we see pedophiles here...and they see pedophiles there like we see gays here)

When you look at them as a group versus individuals, you miss the point. There are ignorant people in every society. I work with many people that grew up in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and other arab countries. They suffer from intollerance like all societies. Americans weren't so different just 50 years ago.

I lived in the ME for over two years...lived in muslim Africa..I didn't say the people were not well mannered nor educated. I said Live under sharia law and come back and tell me that it's a good religion.

I thought it was more than extremely brutal....their laws.
The cities are a different matter...Tehran was very cosmopolitan , Beirut was gorgeous before the war there..etc...not saying one thing about mud huts..some natives did live in them...but I didn't. I had a lovely modern apartment with a nice garden.
