Still Made in the USA!
If you read labels, you will have noticed that many stores and catalogs sell mostly imported goods. Globalization and changes in consumer patterns have created new pressures (and new opportunities) for U.S. manufacturers and workers. Too often, however, this has meant that the U.S. no longer makes many of the goods that we use everyday.

JINGO

J-I-N-G-O AND JINGO WAS HIS NAME-O

Dictionary says...Jingoist:

Dictionary says...Jingoist: Extreme nationalism characterized especially by a belligerent foreign policy. Hmm, doesn't sound like that describes Ron Paul supporters who believe in a humble foreign policy, or people who advocate buying American made products. The vast majority of people here on this site don't believe in a belligerent foreign policy. Bzzt. Try again.

And Vote for American Manufacturing here -

Our policies have made it profitable to shift manufacturing overseas - it should be more profitable to manufacture here in America!

Helping create jobs for your

Helping create jobs for your fellow U.S. citizens is a bad idea?

are they worthwhile jobs?

If you purchase a product, that you otherwise wouldn't, because it's made in the USA. Then you're doing yourself a disservice as well as propping up a useless company. Like it or not this IS a global economy where nationalistic do-gooders...well, don't do much good. With our economic weakening exportation will be more important than ever and foreign consumers won't care if it's made in the USA. Personally if I am confronted with two products of equal quality then, and only then would I consider the country of origin before I make my decision.

Propping up a useless

Propping up a useless company? You are assuming all American made products are inferior, which not all of them are. Here's an example, going to buy organic produce at a local farmers market, instead of buying produce imported from some other country. Odds are, that locally grown organic produce will be fresher, and healthier than the imported stuff.
Also, one of the subjects that was debated in the republican primary was the massive loss of the industrial base of this country, so many factories shutting down, causing many U.S. citizens to lose their jobs, which hurts the middle class and poor the most. Its been called a national security problem, because the U.S. is much less self-reliant than it used to be. If a situation ever came up, a new war(or sanctions set in motion against us) where we could not rely on imports due to a naval blockade or something like that, we'd be screwed as a country because we cannot produce things on our own like we used to.
I agree though, if you can buy a non american made product of much higher quality than an american made product, and that is what you need, then by all means go for it. But I'm sure there are many products out there where quality is similar.
Then you have the issue of having most things being made in China today, which was not the case only 30 something years ago. Chinese products are often inferior, due to lax safety and health standards over there. Millions of products painted with lead based paint, tainted foods, etc.
Here is another link to check out
http://www.madeinusa.org/nav.cgi?info/whybuy

let me clarify

if you choose a product of lower quality over a good product just because product A is made in America, then you are propping up an inefficient company. This is more true now than ever since Americans will need to start exporting to dig ourselves out of this economic hole. And I agree that lots of fine products are made in America, i was just pointing out a fault of protectionism.

oh...and,Chinese products inferior? No one is holding a gun to the consumer's head and telling them to buy Chinese. People are buying these products because they find them superior. If not in overall quality, than in overall value. Sure they have their problems, but right now consumers still prefer their products, and that's all that matters.

theLibertyOrDeathCAST
www.lodcast.blogspot.com

Many consumers are buying

Many consumers are buying Chinese products because they don't know any better, aren't aware they are tainted with dangerous lead paint or foods tainted with toxins. If all Americans were fully aware of this, then I don't think Chinese made products would be so popular. That is actually how I and my family was years ago. We didn't know any better, but if we had known, we wouldn't have bought stuff made in China. Take for instance my mom, she would buy the cheapest products she could, didn't know or care where they were from, didn't give it much thought at all, but she found out about the dangerous products from China and had an awakening. She told me if she had known then what she knows know, she wouldn't have bought all that stuff from China. And I can't help wondering how many other millions of Americans would be the same way, if they found out about the lead paint and other harmful things, would they wish they had been told so they could have avoided buying Chinese made stuff? I'm willing to bet many would.

I thnk if China ever dumped our dolllars .there would be such

an outcry that people would flock to buying US made once a gain

thanks for the lnk...I will add it to the thread!!

more companies the better...

Thanks for this--I got sidetracked doing some Christmas shopping

on the links! I found Roy Toy log building sets Made in America! (similar to Lincoln Logs, which are now produced in China!)
I also found U.S. made toys for pets.

Thanks for the list

I always check labels, and if I can't buy American, I at least don't buy Chinese. No offense to the Chinese, but all the American companies have gone there to reap obscene profits. And they have the gall to charge the same prices - or even higher! I would really love to know if there are any shoes/sneakers made here anymore.

I might also mention that

I might also mention that you AOL'ers could consider a local ISP, one who does not donate tons of your money to support the destruction of the Second Amendment and other globalist causes.

I agree, if it's not made in

I agree, if it's not made in America then I don't need or want it.

I buy

American whenever I can. If it's made in China I do without. China treats their people horribly. If we really did have free trade this would be a non-issue, but since our government is so corrupt and gives preferences to certain countries and ignores our own, then I will not buy from China.
