Fox Business just had Gerald Celente on and he predicts a revolution
I was shocked that Fox would air such a segment.
They mentioned that before 2012:
1. America will be the first undeveloped country
2. Revolution, food shortages, riots, marches
3. Food instead of gifts for Christmas
Seriously, I was shocked. The segment lasted for more than 6 minutes. He said things like parents shouldn't send their kids to get business degrees or psychology degrees and send them to community colleges to learn a real skill. He kept implying that food will become the most important thing for us. He said the retail industry will die off completely but local markets will thrive.
The host even introduced him as a guy who's "predictions always come true".

Here's a well written prediction from Celente: http://www.earthfiles.com...

celente is wrong A LOT
I've written a commentary on celente and his ability to predict things that do not come to pass, on my Culture Crash blog.

Sorry, I didn't find your article very convincing. Also, all your data you are using to back up your statements aren't forward looking, they are backwards. Celente is saying what's coming, not what has already been. I think you're wrong ;)
I Predict
I predict the smart people will start making plans to provide for their own families and partner through networks with their local communities. Energy independence will be in the fore-front for local communities, food through local providers, business will boom in communities where government isn't needed. People will become more independent and America will be returned to the people because the people will take their country back, by force if need be.

You're wrong. It's the end of fractional reserve banking and FIAT money.
Things need to get worse before they get better but don't lose hope.

If you think its the end then it is. This is the chance we have been waiting for. We have a chance to help the very people we need to save this country. We wanted a revolution, it's at our door step.

I hope he is wrong. I will
I hope he is wrong. I will receive my B.A degree in psychology next fall. So I only have a year of school left. If all of this happens it basically means I have wasted 4 years of my life.
Don't despair, and you will finish it.
Just remember John Lennon's words: Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.
Life has got the uncanny ability to have a need for everything we have learnt, it will all fall into place.
Nah, no time of your life is
Nah, no time of your life is a waste.. it would be good to know psychology in a shaky economy
I thought I would re-post this, as it directly relates
The following is what I predict will soon befall our nation:
1) The USG will continue to spend on wars, empire, "stimulus packages", and industry bailouts without limit (expecting different is like expecting a snake to walk).
2) The federal debt now exceeds $10 trillion.
Adding unfunded Medicaid, Social Security, Medicare, veteran's pensions, and similar obligations,
the total is $59 trillion, or $516,000 per household (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt).
3) As our foreign creditors come to realize that such a debt can *never* be paid, they will cease lending to the U.S.
4) Unable to obtain funds by any other means, the USG will drastically increase the money
supply to finance it's debts and spending (thus triggering severe inflation).
5) Imports are greatly curtailed, as few are willing to accept payment in a teetering currency which loses value daily.
6) The people will rush to purchase *real assets* before the dollar is rendered completely worthless,
first emptying/closing the banks, and then the stores.
7) Without access to banks, most businesses will be unable to make payroll and be forced to close
(including food distributors and trucking companies).
8) Food distribution will break down.
The people will seek food from "local sources", but will find that *very* few such sources still exist today.
This will lead to a massive disaster far worse than the last Great Depression:
In the 1930's, there were family farms everywhere (many of which were near self-sufficiency).
Today, the few farms that *do* exist are extremely dependent on technology and supplies from outside sources.
If a critical part breaks that can no longer be replaced (see below), or fuel and/or grain supplies are disrupted, the farm shuts down.
In the 1930's, technology was relatively simple.
Most machines were composed of basic parts of limited number (the great majority of which were manufactured in the US).
Today's machines are very complex and are composed of a huge number of parts from all over the world.
Thus, the failure of one part manufacturer (or the cutoff of their imports) can easily trigger the failure of all who depend on that part.
And this problem extends to *power plants* (which is why I stress the importance of a water filter).
In the 1930's, the US population was around 125 million.
Today, it is 300 million.
So even if we all knew how to live off the land, it is questionable as to whether the land could
sustain so many without the super-efficiency of today's modern/highly-technological farms.
In the 1930's, we had a strong manufacturing base (and thus were not dependent on imports for our very survival).
Today, we make virtually nothing (and have largely forgotten how to do so).
Hence, it will be extremely difficult to "boot-strap" our way back to prosperity.
In the 1930's, people possessed incredible know-how:
They knew how to build and repair things.
They knew how to farm.
They knew how to hunt and dress game.
They knew how to preserve food.
How many of us posses such skills today ?
In the 1930's, we were generally a moral people.
Few resorted to violence or theft to get food.
How do you suppose *today's* Americans will respond when hungry ?
call your mayor and city
call your mayor and city councilman and tell them to start local farm programs in your community.
There's a lot of land that could be used to grow produce that is now not being used.
LEARN HOW TO FARM!

Reliance on the government
Reliance on the government is one of the things that got us into this mess. If the government gets involved, even on the local level, all we can really expect them to do is tax us more in order to screw up any attempts at helping the people.
There is not one single thing that the government can do without taking it from someone else. They cannot use a single staple or even push a piece of paper across the desk without taking the resources to do so from someone else.

So what? Reminds me of the early 80s, riding my Huffy bike around the barren empty strip malls, dodging tufts of grass pushing up through the spreading cracks in the pavement. It was a tough time for mall-style businesses, and this particular development was too new for the downturn. They didn't get a customer for years because they finished construction in the middle of a big slump. Nowadays they're all right. A new facelift. A gym, sushi bar, and medical center. Typical 00s businesses. Who knows if my kids will be riding their bikes around the same strip mall in a few years, observing emptiness and desolation?
"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"

Reason you will see more stuff like this all over media...
The "powers that be" want a Revolution! That is easiest way for them to implement their desired changes to the US. They want to lock down the population and create a local enemy for all the helpless people to hate. They will identify the Revolutionaries as terrorists and find us. The helpless people will blame the Revolutionaries for all their problems and chaos will occur. Which will cause the desire for some new form of government to protect all the helpless people and kill all the Revolutionaries.

Does this mean the end of big box retailers?
At least we'll get something positive out of our suffering. Who needs all these China-Marts anyway? People could do with a lot less stuff and probably be happier than they were with it.
De-hook yourselves from TV and start reading good books (cheap pass time). After a few months, the brain starts regenerating and it's exhilarating to think so clearly!
Sunshine is still free ... long walks and interesting conversations, prayer and meditation, being kind and patient and helpful to the young, the elderly and the disadvantaged are all free ... AND THEY ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT GIVE LIFE REAL MEANING. Everything else is a short lived, superficial, ego-puffing waste of energy.
Through bad times, your attitude will make or break you! Decide that you are going to do your very best for yourself, your loved ones and everyone you come in contact with and this tragedy might just morph into a great blessing.
In my opinion, it means the
In my opinion, it means the end of malls.
Big box stores like Wal-Mart will probably weather the storm, although I expect their throne to be chewed substantially around the edges and profits lower. I'm expecting Wal-Mart to have to close a lot stores they built when the economy was expanding.
Shopping malls and strip mall stores like Bed Bath & Beyond, Petco, Linens and Things, Waldenbooks, Kohl's, Pier One Imports, Circuit City--and maybe some of the old aging giants like Sears or JC Penney---will probably topple.
