Movie actors, anyone?

I'm convinced at this writing we are desperate for a presidential candidate and willing to accept almost anything---as long as it's someone who has a political resume.

What about the opposite tack? Running a political newbie for office who is a world famous celebrity? Because frankly I don't see any career politicians in the public eye who look like they could wake the voters, let alone the brain-dead mainstream media, from a deep slumber.

The name Jesse Ventura keeps coming up. What political resume does Ventura have? He was governor of Minnesota. What political resume did he have before that? None. He was a movie actor and ex-wrestler.

What political resume did Schwarzenegger have before he became governor? None. He was a movie actor and ex-bodybuilder.

What political resume did Reagan have before he became governor? None. He was a movie actor, and president of the Screen Actors Guild.

At least with governor, it seems to be an open door.

There are stars out there who are not members of the Hollywood Left.

From Wikipedia:

"Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York, the sixth of eleven children, and the second son of Hutton Gibson and Irish-born Anne Reilly Gibson. His paternal grandmother was the Australian opera soprano, Eva Mylott (1875–1920).[4] One of Gibson's younger brothers, Donal, is also an actor. Gibson's first name comes from Saint Mel, fifth-century Irish saint, and founder of Gibson's mother's native diocese, Ardagh, while his second name, Columcille, is also that of an Irish saint.[5] Columcille is also the name of the parish in County Longford where Anne Reilly was born and raised.

Because of his mother, Gibson holds dual citizenship in America and the Republic of Ireland."

Hmm, interesting. I really liked the movie the Patriot that he was in, with the late Heath Ledger. Wonder what his views are on illegal immigration and amnesty?

Sorry, not a good idea to elect another raging alcoholic to office. No Gibson for you!

Selleck is less controversial. But this is a good choice.

True. I was waiting for

True. I was waiting for someone else to say it.

Gibson makes headlines, period...and in the "patriot" movement is widely admired, despite his recent publicity problems.

Wouldn't it have been funny if she had gotten elected this year.

George Bush would have had to orient her.

How about.....

Paully Shore?
At least there is a Paul in it.

I'll bet Pauly Shore would

I'll bet Pauly Shore would be definitely for ending the drug war, since he is into pot. Its hard to imagine him at debates or interviews, Saying something like "Dude, I'd like totally fix the country, you know. And I wouldn't wheez the juice too much(then he'd laugh), then he'd end up saying Cool buuudddyyy... Click link below for an example

Frankly speaking, if Venture

Frankly speaking, if Venture is the best we can do then I'm out of this movement--or will just seek a party with more common sense.

Venture was an ineffective governor at best. He lacks several of the major traits that he needs to get elected. If you honestly think this man has a chance of being the President of the United States then you need to stop drinking and dry out for a while.

Sure, I think he's got a few good opinons but that doesn't make a person a good leader. Venture is great a pointing out his theories but when it comes to solutions or even prevention he offers very little.

You know the saying, "opinions are like @$$holes, everybody's got one!" Well, Jessie would look really good in that t-shirt underneath his blazer....

Pretty accurate description

Pretty accurate description of his faults.

He does have strong points, foremost among them the fact that he's been elected to office and has a political record (which puts him slightly over Chuck Baldwin), and that he is capable of giving good speeches and garnering publicity (which puts him slightly over Gary Johnson).

But he's a mixed bag. I can't see Ventura winning the presidency in any context. We really need someone who can.

I think you're counting him

I think you're counting him out before even giving him a chance. Not a wise move, but you've made your choice.

Good point, but look again.

You'll notice all the presidents with no political experience were Generals.

I'm just analyzing the odds here.

Amen to that

NO lawyers.

The 13th Amendment

Was supposed to be about banning lawyers from public office. It was entitled the 'no titles of nobility' amendment and was proposed prior to the civil war but then the war broke out and it was silenced.

Agreed.

As far as I am concerned, ban lawyers from all elected offices. Make it a constitutional amendment. It's a conflict of interest if you ask me. (Who else gets to create or change laws that will directly influence the work they do and the money they make when they get out of office????)

Jeez, You Guys Sound Like Rush

Stop with the red herrings already. Our greatest presidents have been lawyers -- Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, James Madison, Grover Cleveland.

The neocons are always whining about lawyers who defend civil liberties.

Andrew Napolitano for President!

So you feel all the laws

So you feel all the laws made are fair?

Wasn't it Andrew Napolitano that said there's over 4,000 laws.
I wonder how it got to be that way.

Tom Selleck

Tom Selleck, Tom Selleck.

Someone else suggested this and I think it is a perfect solution, better than perfect, awesome. Friend of Charlton Heston. I think board of NRA. (prefer the other one, but...) Considers himself an Independent with libertarian leanings. Married (again).

Gary Johnson as vp??

Very interesting

I did not know this about Selleck. He'd be a good speaker, that's for sure, but I'm not sure he's scumbag enough to really want the office of president.
