Christmas Gift Ideas

It's that time of year again. I'm looking for good Christmas gift ideas to give to my family and friends. Some of you may have seen the Fox News story where Gerald Celente predicts that we will be giving each other food for Christmas by 2012 and that this would be the last year of the "retail Christmas."

I was inspired to post this question after reading through the survival food thread. I'm sick of giving and getting petroleum based crap (plastic) made in China baubles and trinkets. Instead, I want to give the people I care about stuff that can help them through the financial crisis.

An idea that came to mind last night was that I had ordered the 12000 seed pack from survivalistseeds.com. I thought of repackaging them into smaller packets (say 500 total) and giving those to my loved ones, complete with instructions on growing.

Anyone else have any ideas along these lines? I am trying to think of stuff to give these people with the caveat of trying not to seem like a paranoid, end of the world type person.

So, I guess the question is what other kinds of gift ideas are there that are maybe fun yet practical.

Americans need to step back into the kitchen and save some money.

Great ideas

Real light bulbs

I use the cfl's in most of the house, but I also want to have some incandescent bulbs around also, if I want to use one in a place it may get broken or if I want to brood chickens. I think 2009 is the year they make incandescent bulbs illegal.

Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.

Silver, gold and lead.

Food is always appreciated too.

I have an older brother and he and I always exchange our oddities before the presents get opened.

Don't give anything

A penny saved is a penny earned. Gift giving is probably started by the retail sector.

I have given

my two nephews, either ammo or silver eagles the last 2 years, they are 11 & 13 and have enjoyed getting it.

Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.

everyone a dvd of America Freedom to Fascism. Then maybe the future of Christmas will be better. All those ideas are great too but you have to get them to realise they are going to need them instead of the latest gadget.

All my kids and friends ask me for

my homemade herbal tinctures, salves, etc. so I am making them all a herbal medicine kit for Xmas.

Gifts with clear uses.

Gift ideas

Sleeping bags, camp stoves, gas grill if you want to spend $$$. Bake some goodies to give, along with the recipes. I'm giving my (adult) kids a bottle of silver gel which I've been using for an infection (which has now cleared up).

I'll have the usual

How about the usual items we list here on DP?

- Heirloom seeds, a small bag of organic soil and some gloves, packed into a watering can with a bright ribbon on top

- Freeze-dried food, MREs, foldable mini-camping stove, other emergency equipment

- Gold and/or silver coins (GREAT stocking stuffers -- I'll take some, Santa!)

- Berkey Water System (if you want to spend big bucks on your recipient)

- Other water storage units, such as barrels (you can find these cheaper via ebay) or boxes you fill with your own water supply.

- If your recipient has firearms, appropriate ammo.

- Helpful books for edumacation :)

don't forget...

You can also buy a friend of family member the berkey pf-2 fluoride filters if they already have a system. Only a couple of my friends even qualify, but the pf-2's are only like $60 and I'm sure they would be much appreciated by the receiver.

Heirloom seeds are fun. I

Heirloom seeds are fun. I think those could be a good xmas gift hit, especially if as you mention, packaged with some soil and a watering can. I might suggest substituting a nice flower pot for the watering can.

And, I think the seeds are a little less doomsdayish when compared to the MRE's and storable foods.

Emergency equipment is a good idea that I think should be expanded on. I was looking at hand crank flashlights and radios. Also, the car kits with the emergency supplies like flares and emergency blankets.

Silver is a good one, as gold is too rich for me.

The Berkey is a good idea, but again a budget buster. But, the sport bottle Berkey travel variety is pretty doable.

I know that some of this has been gone into depth on this forum. My intent was to get out those suggestions that are geared for the nonbelievers, i.e. those we have tried to warn that don't appreciate the gravity.

Handmade book of our r3volution to date....

Handmade book of our r3volution to date for those in my family.

Since I don't do christmas I'm not under the dec 25 time crunch. The seeds are a great idea, I might incorperate that into part of my booklette.

Much of my family wont listen to me anyway, so I'm doing this more for my grandkids so this history will not be lost to them and offering them forgotten but practical ways to survive.

Go Hand Made!!!

Hand made gifts are way better by far!
they are more fun from both a giving a receiving point of view
people cherish these items for ever - even if they suck! 8]
