So since the talk of food shortages I've been looking into wild foods. In turn, I've run across a few references from seemingly different parts of the web. Jordan Maxwell talks briefly about an occult society where they revere the mushroom, the psychoactive magic mushrooms. They would adorn hats that were in the shape of Mushrooms and so on.

Then while watching videos on consciousness LSD and psychedelic mushrooms had been mentioned because it offers alternate perceptions of reality vs. your mind making things up. In other words one side would argue the using a psychoactive substances diminishes perception and since the brain cannot process reality it makes up what you see from your imagination. While others argue that while some senses do degrade others are enhanced.

Then replaying old videos of Bill Hicks and his bit about marijuana, mushrooms, and the evolution of man. Not that I think man is a creature evolved from monkeys that got into magic mushrooms. But is it at least possible that man can become a better man threw ones experiences?

So now all this hints to the idea that there is something going on that is far from common knowledge. But what? IMO even if you have the psychoactive mushrooms it's only half of the equation at best. More likely a 3rd. First there's attainment and consumption. This is like the key. Then the trip, which is like the door. But without a destination it's like opening a door to nowhere. No, I'm certain that you need a destination before you go on a trip or you'll just be standing in the doorway. If there is something in there that has any chance of advancing the evolution of consciousness then we are still missing part of the equation. Or maybe I'm wrong.

Okay so back to edible mushrooms for a sec. Many types of mushrooms fruit at the same time each year. Some edible mushrooms are hard to find but grow in the same conditions as another mushroom that is not edible but more predominant. This is an indicator species. In turn each type of mushroom has specific requirements from which spores can take root. Knowing these requirements is another great indicator. Many mushrooms are seasonal meaning when they are fruiting you have get out and harvest. That said...

Now, because the fall mushrooms are fruiting would be one of your last chances to gather and store food for the winter if you lived off the land and the name of the game right now is Amanita Muscaria, a legal entheogenic used traditionally by shamans for both spiritual and physical healing.

If you followed the links above you now know I'm fixin' to do. What I haven't mentioned is that a batch of these things found me a few days ago before I really knew what I had found. I did a day of research and decided to give it a shot. I went back out there and harvested a paper grocery sack full of Amanita Muscaria or Fly Agaric. Sack was so full it broke a handle and had to double bag it. I tried 3 different drying methods but think I like the Shamans method of stringing them up. It take longer but it's hassle free and they look way better so far.

So then I started at a new jobsite today and the landscape and environment are about 95% perfect conditions for mushroom hunting. I found several Boletus edulis http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/sept98.html But didn't have time to grab 'em. So come Monday I'm going out early, I'm gonna smoke threw this job and see if I can round up a few of these and try 'em out. (note: the ones i found are about 4 or 5 inches in diameter not like that monster in the picture.)

I've done psilocybians

I've done psilocybians before had a good time and all. But they are definitely not for all occasions and what exactly is the purpose of psilocybians? I suppose I would harvest psilocybians is they made themselves present but if I wanna pick 'em myself which I believe you should do if you wanna do any experimenting. I would have to go way out of my way to get them, trespass, and dodge both a Game Warden and the Sheriff.

I felt much more comfortable harvesting the Flys. Besides that, Amanita Muscaria is legal.

Psilocybian

That is what is the active ingredient in mushrooms.

Terrence Mckenna covers this quit well. Look him up.

Active ingredient in

Active ingredient in Psilocybe cubensis and Liberty Caps but not so in Flys. The entheogenic constituents of A. muscaria are ibotenic acid (alpha-amino3-hydroxy-5-isoxazole acetic acid), muscamol (3hydroxy-5-aminomethy1 isoxazole), and possibly muscazone (Ott). Muscamol appears to be the primary intoxicant. After ingestion, a small amount of ibotenic acid decarboxylates into muscamol, which produces the intoxication.
Taken orally, ibotenic acid is entheogenically active at 50-100 mg (Ott and Stafford).
Taken orally, muscimol displays activity at 10-15mg.

After your having ingested

You should collect your urine. I know this sounds gross but, your body filters the fly agaric in such a way that the urine will actually provide better results than simply eating them. If you do in fact wish to use the method I have described. I recommend drinking a lot of water before, to the point of your urine being clear before you ingest. This is what the shamans used to do. I've never done any mushrooms or lsd type substance. I have thought about trying the experience but, never have the opportunity presented itself. You may also wish to have a sitter with you.

LOL

Yeah I read all about that part. You can actually recycle your urine up to 5 times! But I don't think I'm quite so desperate. But thinking how the ancient Vikings used it before going into battle... if you had to dose an entire army. You might not live beyond the next 48 hours and quite possibly the stuff could give a soldier and edge over his adversaries. I could see this activity running rampant. Now imagine having to repeat this act several times during an ancient military campaign. Is this what made the Vikings go "bezerk"? Just the idea that if they do not succeed right here and now their gonna have to drink the pee again. lol

BE DAMN SURE you know what

BE DAMN SURE you know what you are picking. The thing with mushrooms is...if you're wrong...You're Dead. Simple as that.

As to Hallucinogenic Mushrooms, I would advise you, to not take your experiances too seriously. People really can lose their minds on that stuff. I've seen it. Thier perception of reality is so twisted, they can no longer function within society. Dont get too cocky...you can't predict your experiance and you just mind "find out" something, you dont wanna know.

Merry Christmush t' you too.

Amanita muscaria is a very pretty (even Christamasy-looking) mushroom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Amanita_muscaria_3_vliege...), however, it is not one you will want to just run out and harvest for later consumption as it is one of the most commonly referenced poisonous mushrooms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria). While careful human experimentation may yield interesting results they may likewise result in casualties. I guess that's the way natural selection works; the incautions are eliminated from the gene pool.

That's funny. I always think about the first guy to eat

many things. The first guy who ate a crab for example had to have been one hungry dude! Or truffles. Or pineapples. There's all kinds of things we eat and enjoy that someone had to really brave to test out.
Just think, at some point in history, a human has eaten or smoked everything on this planet.

LOL crabs! No kidding huh!

LOL crabs! No kidding huh! Giant underwater bugs! Yeah lets eat those!

I want to know who looked at

I want to know who looked at a cow and thought..."i wonder if i can sqeeze on its tits and drink what comes out?" Or the guy who was looking at a chicken and thought..."whats that white thing that just came out of its ass? Wonder if its good to eat?"

do you have a "guide" or "watcher?"

The experience one responder related about being terrified can be completely mitigated if you have a trusted friend stay sober and watch you.
I believe it is one of our rights that we were robbed of early, to explore our own perception. I do not advocate frequent use, but I believe a right of passage using them would cure a lot of what ails our culture.

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

Some things to consider about mushrooms

I accidentally ingested a hallucinogen once. It was one of the most mind expanding and terrifying experiences of my life. It made me understand things that I never would have understood if I hadn't taken it. But I would never ever do it again because of the sheer terror I experienced. I think when we are not on a substance we have filters in our brain that handle all of the information for us. Then when we take a drug it breaks down those filters. Awe inspiring but terrifying.

Be careful with wild mushrooms. I got food poisoning from eating a mushroom once and the nurse I spoke to said that when you get sick from eating wild mushrooms, there is a 50% chance you will die. So you better be a freaking shaman before you eat them.

The internet is my shaman

This is what I'm talking about. You had the key, and you opened the door. But you had no destination prior to the event and no one to keep you grounded or anchored to this reality. Thus, you had a bad trip.

Anyway, Fly Agarics have a different chemistry than other psychedelic mushrooms. It's not as hallucinogenic and the visuals aren't transmutations. Rather than the removal of a mind filter they're more like a sliding scale or a crossfader (for the DJs) Music is always playing but when you slide the crossfader from one side to the other the music changes. While some senses are effected adversely other are enhanced. It is said that the Vikings used the Fly Agarics before battle, i'm curious to know why. It is also said that after the experience you feel great, refreshed, and renewed. Which I can see as important for a warrior going into battle.

Knowing how these things were used in the past is important to know before the experience so you can use them in the right circumstance. This will go along way when you're talking about having a bad trip. It means it was the wrong circumstance.

There's not a 50% chance of death by eating wild mushrooms just poisonous ones and it's not 50% it's higher. Depending on the mushroom death is certain. That's why they have names like Death Cap and Fallen Angel.

I’m sorry I don’t have time to read your whole post.

Just want to comment.

When my grandfather was alive, he practically lived on wild mushrooms. One time he offered me some he had cooked up. They were delicious (I hated mushrooms before that)! I'm still not a fan. Anyway, I haven't had a good-tasting mushroom since that one time. I think his wild-mmushroom-hunting technique died with him (along with his recipe).

At least I don't have to endure (i.e. "choke down") his oister stew every single holiday anymore!

Agree

My dad always picked fresh mushrooms - he knew which were the ones OK to eat. They were so much better tasting than the ones in the stores today.
