YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTION - Look to the 60's and see what it's gonna take!
Submitted by Ralph Waldo on Sat, 11/15/2008 - 19:37I am often amused at people who talk about a political revolution but then dismiss the 60's as a flawed and inferior effort. Many have swallowed the MSM myth that portrays it all as sex, drugs and Rock n Roll - Oh to the contrare!
If you want to see what it's gonna take for people to stand up to the Federal Government and make it bend to the people's will - look to the 60's. It took millions of people over a decade, demonstrating, marching, staging boycotts and sit-ins, burning draft cards and direct confrontations with those in authority. In fact many were injured, some killed and some even set themselves on fire.
Comparing the current RP revolution with the 60's, I'm afraid most have no idea of the long and winding road ahead and what it's really going to take! I hate to break it to you but to match the 60's, the numbers and outrage must grow 10-fold to bring about the change you seek.

The war lasted for 8 years...
We had not been "attacked" by anyone on home soil...there was a military draft of our young men ...and over 60,000 Americans lost their lives in the jungles of Vietnam...many came home disabled or on drugs...it touched almost every family and town...
Apparently the war in Iraq hasn't become as devastating, or as personal, to the American public yet...the government is keeping it to a simmer...until it comes to a full boil (as in the 60's) the masses will not pay attention

I've been trying to subtley hint that for a while. People like armchair activism more than the physical. In Vegas, a giant, lively metropolis, the Ron Paul marches were pathetically small. The folks in these videos here had no internet to distract them and contribute to making them fat & lazy.

I prefer to teach by example with some verbal adice thrown in here and there. I lived in Long Beach, Calif. throughout most of the 1960s. But most of the people accessing this site are no doubt younger.
Intentionally or not, you're actually doing little more than destructively criticising people for having "premature aspirations" (for lack of more accurate terminology).
The principle reason I access this site is to teach by example, as it were. If written advice is in order, I stand ready, willing and anxious to give it. But showing by example is always preferable.
Younger people will make mistakes (just like older people). But the mistakes, by all likelihood, will make them a lot stronger. At any rate, everyone has to grow at his or her own pace.

I was actually responding to a poster that was extolling the virtues and superiority of the RP revolution and at the same time running down the 60's and how flawed that revolution was. I thought a little wake-up-call was in order.

sixties was the baby boom. The same boom that will screw us with the entitlements. You had a huge group of people all becoming yound adults and adolescents at the same time, outnumbering the "grown ups" who had all the power, politically and culturally.
Note however, that despite this, even with the draft, young people did not vote in substantial numbers, and Nixon won beat McGovern quite easily.

And I am going to post it Monday morning here on Daily Paul (when there is no football or other weekend distractions). It has to do with the 60's and 70's and how that energy may be rekindled. Stay tuned.
The draft was a huge factor in uniting
people against an unpopular war. And there were so many factors that created a freethinking, optimistic spirit we don't see today. Experimental lifestyles, enthusiasm for peace and fellowship, exploring world religious and cultural ideas, all captured people's imaginations; an explosion of creativity and of course widespread experimentation with marijuana and acid created an illusion of no limits, until the eventual sad effects set in.
But the positive aspects gained enormous popularity -- even among the MSM, the movie industry, the music industry. After the 60s many felt the world changed forever toward peace and freedom, and grew complacent. Then like an incomplete course of anitbiotics, the totalitarian, war-mongering germs in government quickly reestablished and grew exponentially.
We haven't yet created a major popular trend to pull people into the freedom movement this time around. (though the early Ron Paul R3VOLution with its blimps, optimistic enthusiasm, and grassroots creativity had real potential.)
In the 60s it was mostly emotion and happy feelings, as with the Beattles, with little reasoned substance. There was a small determined corps of communists, and people experimented with all sorts of communes that mostly failed. Russian and Chinese militancy and their repressive regimes turned people off. With no real understanding of freedom, the 60s radical movement failed.
While our enemy is bigger and more totalitarian now, there are way more of us educated and articulate in sound freedom principles. The task is enormous, I hope you'll all hang in. With truth on our side, and the internet, we have a chance to keep a lasting love of liberty alive in the world.

It took a military draft...
and Communist Jews to propel the antiwar movement of the 60s. The antiwar movement then was viewed sympathetically by the media. Now, however, the Communist Jews, who are largely Zionist, are largely on the other side. Since Zionist of all stripes have 100% control of the MSM, there's no way to effectively recreate the nonviolent civil disobedience of the 60s.

You used the words Jews, Zionist, and Communist repeatedly. Communists have done a lot of bad things. Zionists may be problematic. Jews, however, are good and bad like the rest of us and should be evaluated on an individual basis - like the rest of us.

They went to the all volunteer military to avoid the protest. Currently the total RP movement is probably around 10% of the size of the protest movement of the 60's. It needs to grow about 10 fold to make a difference!

took my Yellow Submarine to the Albert Hall to see how many holes it would take to fill it up, but Rita, lovely meter maid, gave me a ticket and I couldn't finish the count.
I did some protesting in the 60's myself in San Francisco, but now that I'm older I would consider going into the streets, but I need somebody to say to me "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" to help get me out of there if the military shows up w/their death rays, or whatever other evil weapons they have in store for the American people who say they Wanna Start a Revolution because the Constitution provides that we must in times like these! Back in the 60's we could get away w/a lot when protesting because we were so good looking, that we were so hard to see. You had to be there!
We need all the Help we can get to save our nation, but it's going to be tough when we take it to the streets or Penny Lane or the Long and Winding Road, because this ain't the sixties no more dealing with Yesterday's government.
I know that sitting around feeling like I Am The Walrus and not doing more is making me nuts, but we need a plan. So, Please, Please, Please Me and each other by coming up w/up something before time runs out! We all sure could use A Little Help From Our Friends.
