I'm in S.C and we are lucky
the retard gop (esp. the religious right) in this state didn't vote him out of office.
The neo-conservative ideals are well ingrained in the religious right. They thing lindsey graham is conservative and anything right of him is radical.
He was not up for re-election this time around. I am not
sure that made a difference as to how he voted against the bailout but I would like to think that it did not.

I really like DeMint. I live in SC and have written to him
several times about the issues. He has always had a conservative stance. He has always taken the time to respond to my emails also. Despite the fact that he endorsed Romney, I do think we are on the same side. Following is his response on the bailout.
Dear Mrs. xxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts and concerns regarding the current economic situation in America and the recently enacted bailout plan. I appreciate hearing from you on this extremely important issue.
As you are aware, on October 3, 2008, President Bush signed into law the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. The main purpose of this legislation is to authorize the Secretary of the Treasury up to $700 billion to purchase distressed assets from institutional investors and banks. The Administration has claimed that this action will provide liquidity to the U.S. financial sector and help restore confidence and stability to the markets.
I voted against this bailout for several reasons. First, it socializes private losses, making all American citizens responsible for the actions of a relative few in the private sector. Further, the law puts a dangerous amount of control over the American financial system into the hands of a single central planner, the Secretary of the Treasury. Finally, it fails to address the decades of misguided government policies that caused the economic turmoil we currently face.
Moving forward, Congress must treat the root causes of the economic crisis rather than react to its symptoms. This should include reforming or eliminating counter-productive and often harmful government policies, including the Community Reinvestment Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Government Sponsored Enterprises, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Also, pro-growth policies need to be enacted to ensure freedom and certainty for the American people and our markets, including reductions of the capital gains and corporate tax rates.
Please know that I will continue to diligently promote sound economic policies that secure America's freedom and prosperity. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me. Please feel free to contact me again in the future with anything important to you or your family. It is an honor to serve you and the people of South Carolina.
Sincerely,
Jim DeMint
United States Senator

Wait, this Senator is saying the right things
He is on our side. These are the type of ideas we need to get behind if we are going to save the republic.
Where was that Senator for
Where was that Senator for the past two years? Limbaugh and Ann Coultier were both saying that McCain was more liberal than Hillary Clinton.
This guy wakes up only now?
McCain wanted to run for POTUS as a Democrat back in 2000 and again in 2004 as John Kerry's running mate.
Ummm.... McCain is NOT conservative, he's a liberal that infiltrated the GOP. Who knows, maybe he did this then threw the election on purpose in order to hand the presidency to Obama.
...
Jim DeMint is the
Jim DeMint is the conservative talk shows new golden boy. He's one of them that there pushing.

It does not take a majority to prevail ... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.

So full of shit
Even InsHannity now says the GOP has lost their way and needs to get back to their roots. Say all the right words to herd the flock, the lead them to the wolf. I hope people finally get how these elitists play them like a chess piece.
Exactly. The talking points
Exactly. The talking points are going out...they have no intention of going back to "conservative roots".

He endorsed Romney
I'm afraid that no one will ever measure up to Dr. Paul so I'm starting to resign myself to look for close matches.
f*ck this senator & f*ck the GOP. its the GOP that betrayed
the GOP
wow its so easy to now blame mccain
where was the GOP when Ron Paul and Huckabee were marginalized. the GOP pressured the Huck to drop out of the race for the sake of the nominee. the gop didnt allow a brokered convention to happen and to add insult to injury they didnt allow the speaker to mention the Ron Paul votes on the mic.
i hate mccain but those bastards are now blaming them for their losses makes me sick

Well, in DeMint's
defense I must say he came out very strongly against the bailout. He also said in senate he hopes the congress votes again no with the second vote on the bailout ("rescue package"). Maybe he is one of those Romney supporters that after the nomination said they wished they had voted for Paul. Well, apart from Dr. Paul, Romney projected himself as the second most fiscal conservative and I guess it was because Dr. Paul is a congressman and not a senator or governor. Hopefully he will work closer with Dr. Paul in the future....we will see. In any case encouraging that they criticize McCain already, that is a start. You will NOT hear this critique from his colleague from the same state: Lindsey Graham. DeMint sound like Sanford. Sanford was part of Dr. Paul's Liberty Caucus while congresmen a few years ago. In 2006 Dr. Paul Liberty PAC contributed 10 000 USD to the election of the other senator on the pick: Tom Coburn.
not to mention trashing RP
not to mention trashing RP delegates at the state conventions as well.
Hindsight is always 20/20
It's easy to stand up now and make these statements. Where was he before? Was he beside RP?
I won't criticize until I look up his record but isn't it convenient to be able to slap McCain now...post lost?
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

Where WAS this guy before???
I'm a girk! Chatta me kort please!
New math!
What are you fightin' for?
Caught in the middle?
Freedom is only for those with the guts to defend it!
Isn't this a Ron Paul line??
"Had Republicans not strayed from their core beliefs in recent years, DeMint argued, the election results might have been different."
Too bad they couldn't see this a year ago??? Bastards! oops, sorry
haha
good question!
