When did Obama become "President-elect?"
This might seem like nitpicking to some, but why does the U.S. news media refer to Barack Obama as "President-elect?" According to the Constitution, the presidential election happens December 15th, when state electors cast their votes for president. Shouldn't he be referred to as "presumptive president-elect?"
Should some scandal erupt between now and December 15th, such as Obama being involved somehow in a crime, the electors could choose John McCain or some other candidate for president. So the presidential election has not been decided yet.
I understand that in the normal course of events the presidential race is decided on election day, but I feel the news media is doing a disservice to the public by referring to Obama as President-elect. Katie Couric had the nerve to correct someone who referred to Obama as "President," but she did so by saying he is "President-elect." She's the one who needed correcting, from my point of view!
To me, it shows a disregard for the Constitution of the United States to refer to a presidential candidate as president-elect when in fact no presidential election has yet been held.
The media has taken the liberty
to baptize him as such in their orchestrated efforts to keep the people brainwashed. The media doesn't keep track of legal procedures, they just do as they please.

Watch the criminal indictments against Cheney and our former Attorney General in Texas. If they actually more forward with prosecution, all bets are off on whether Obama will face the the same fate for criminal fraud.
He will become President-elect on January 8, 2009.
Citizens cast their votes in November. Electors cast their votes in December. The votes of the electors are counted in January. The winner is declared by the Vice President at a joint session of Congress in January. (If the electoral vote were to fail to produce a winner, then House would elect a President and the Senate would elect a Vice President.) See section 15 of title 3, United States Code.
On October 15, 2008, the date for the joint session to count this year's electoral vote was changed to January 8 (from the statutory default setting of January 6) by Public Law 110-430.

He is already
on that job, getting briefed and spending time with Bush. I don't think that should be happening. He is learning things he perhaps should not be learning.
