Gulf War Syndrome Report - It's a real illness

I know a lot of people on this site are young, and may not know the background on this.

After the 1991 Gulf War - a.k.a Desert Storm/Desert Shield, a number of our vets came back with similar symptoms and no one could find a correct diagnosis. This became known as "Gulf War Syndrome." However, the official response was that this syndrome did not exist. Consequently, our vets had a hard time getting the proper treatment they needed.

The Congressionally mandated report alluded to in Reuters today (http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE4AG6HU20081117) explains that now Gulf War Syndrome officially exists. I hope that means that soon some viable treatments will also exist.

Regardless of your opinions on the current war, or the 91 war, or whether or not the military men are to blame for the state of affairs, I hope you'll agree that finding a treatment for Gulf War Syndrome is long overdue.

considers the military personnel as "Canon Fodder"(I think it was Kissinger who said it) doesn't sound to be like they care how vets are. Look how they treated the vets against the war. In fact I don't think they care about anyone.

The panel found two possible causes: a drug given to troops to protect against nerve gas, known as pyridostigmine bromide, and pesticides that were used heavily during the war.

The panel said other possible causes could not be ruled out, including extensive exposure to smoke from oil-well fires and low-level exposure to sarin gas when captured Iraqi stocks were destroyed.

Isn't it true that thousands of troops suffer this syndrome who never even went to the Mideast, but still received the vaccinations?

Just like Agent Orange sufferers; they kept denying them any credence until years and years later. Tragic.
