A little better? your going to have to do a little homework yourself - but dont be afraid to ask questions of anyone here, and of the old party stalwarts you will be taking over from - let them think your just like them at first if you need to - you should get a feel pretty quick as far as where they stand on things, and just how open or closed you need to be concerning your intentions.

Here is the speech Nick Provadikis and myself wrote to give to our county executive committee meeting, feel free to use all or parts of it -

We are here not to lay blame and offer no path to success, but to honestly analize why we as a party lost so much this past election - and offer a roadmap to our future return to being the majority party.

The main reason our party is losing ground is that we have lost
credibility in the eyes of most voters. People simply don't believe the
promises made by Republican candidates for office because time and again, they have seen Republican candidates say one thing and then do something else.

We chide the Democrats for being big spenders, and yet President Bush and the largely Republican Congress from 2003 to 2006 pushed through the biggest spending increases and deficits our country has ever seen. The Federal Government is now the nations single largest employer, and 11 trillion dollars in debt and borrowing from foreign countries at an unprecedented rate - its becoming a national security risk. When I voted for Bush, I voted For a small government Republican president and got a government the size of which would make even LBJ blush.

We had Senator McCain calling President-elect Barack Obama a socialist and yet voted right along with him in favor of effectively socializing the banking industry with the infamous Wall Street Bailout.

As recently as the 90’s Republicans railed against a foreign policy of “making the world safe for democracy”, which is historically the Democrats foreign policy, going back to President Wilson - when Bill Clinton was President and took us to war in Bosnia and Kosovo Republicans were furious, and rightly so - President Bush in 2000 campaigned on a winning platform of no policing of the world, no nation-building, and promised to close bases on foreign soil and bring most of our troops home— in places like Germany and Japan and the Middle East.

Instead after eight years we now have a foreign policy that is costing us a trillion dollars a year. and I dont know how we as a party can say we're for limited government when we support big government overseas. Joe the Plummer sees the disconnect and sees it as dishonesty in the message - When I joined the GOP in the 90's we talked about getting out of the UN and ending foreign aid - that is a winning message that Joe the Plummer can get behind.

We say our party stands for secure borders and strict enforcement of
immigration laws, yet President Bush continually seeks to expand NAFTA and open up our border with Mexico in ways that jeopardize the rule of law and national security. And as we all know, Senator McCain has long supported a policy of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

There is a word for all of this: HYPOCRACY.

Voters smell it, and are turned off by it. And we have to stop it. We believe that it is solid conservatism that wins the day AND elections - limited government, individual responsibility and freedom, and a strong national DEFENSE - Secure the Borders! and certainly not conciliation and surrender to Democrats to the point that our differences become blurry.

With those core ideals of Conservatism we can regain the trust of the voters and rebuild the credibility of our party - when we couple that with nominating and electing GOP candidates for office that have a proven record of integrity and standing for true Republican principles, not just in front of the news cameras, or in sound bytes, but in their hearts and in their actions when they draft and vote on legislation, write and implement public policy, and in the conduct of their personal lives.

We need real Republicans; men and women of principle—not hypocrites.

Like Mr. Nystrom I was finished with the Republican party earlier this year - I even wrote a declaration of withdrawl from the party similar to Michael's - I was convinced that we could not work with these people who had supported John McCain - but a friend convinced me to come along to a meeting over the summer, and I saw as he did that the people running the county party were asleep at the wheel and about to crash, and now that they have crashed and burned in this election - are looking to us for ideas on how to get back on the road.
