Can someone please tell me how an oil carrying ship is pirated. Who are the pirates? How is it that a ship carrying a commodity for the wealthiest people in the world and backed by the best military security on the planet can possibly be held ransom. Something is really fishy here. » |

An oil shipment being
An oil shipment being pirated isn't really all that bad.
Wasn't it only a few months ago when a ship with dozens of russian tanks was pirated?
And right around the same time I think an Iranian ship with some kind of strange chemicals on board was pirated as well.

The pirates have informants around the docks and all "someone" would have to do is let the word leak out that there is an unguarded oil tanker heading for such and such on a certain day and time.

High seas piracy
has been on the rise for at least the last 5 years. Another sign that the crumbling American empire isn't as influential as it once was.
If no one steps in to fill this vacuum, expect piracy to become even more commonplace.

100 million dollar payload
and no one is paying any attention or guarding it. Rich people might get mugged, but they are not typically carrying their millions on their person. Terror to bring fear of scarcity and higher oil prices perhaps in a declining market? Incest in the oil families? Any more ideas?

my question is...
they reported on the news that they couldn't find these ships and pirates in this huge ocean and this is why the pirating continues... we all know this is bogus and i agree, something here is SERIOUSLY "fishy"

I'm not up on this story at all, having been otherwise occupied, but, uh, a ship is sailing on the high seas, carrying valuable cargo...and it has no method available for making its location known?
If only there were some sort of helpful technology available; perhaps a system that could somehow pinpoint a vessel's position on the globe...but I guess such technology just hasn't been invented yet.

Say a bunch of crazy guys with explosives manage to get on board a ship carrying tens of millions of barrels of nice sticky yucky crude oil.
How much would it be worth to you to not have them blow up the ship off of your nice beach sending all of that oil there to fester for generations?
Seems like a topic capable of resulting in blackmail.
