Ron Paul: A Seller of Ideas - Chicago Tribune

ANGLETON, Texas - No more Department of Education. No more Federal Reserve Bank. No more Medicare or Medicaid. No more membership in the United Nations or NATO. No more federal drug laws. And, no more U.S. troops in Iraq -- or anywhere else on foreign soil.
The Internal Revenue Service would be history in the first week that Ron Paul sits behind the desk in the Oval Office. And the dismantling of the above-mentioned entities and relationships -- plus a long list of others -- soon would commence.

Sorry I repeated your forum....
Sorry - I was emailed the article from a Ron Paul supporter and was so excited after reading it, I posted a new forum topic about it, then I noticed you already had a thread going....
anways, it is a super good read... still has inconsistencies and that just goes to show how we have to educate people more in what Ron Paul believes in - people still mis-represent him so badly in articles...
Please E mail her
I thanked her and she graciously replied. I told her this was one, if not the best article of RP that I' ve read to date. She needs to hear it from the community. Please thank her and pass the link along to people unfamiliar of RP and who he is/what he stands for.

IRS gone in first week?
"The Internal Revenue Service would be history in the first week that Ron Paul sits behind the desk in the Oval Office."
Not so. Of course Ron Paul would like to be able to eliminate the IRS in the first week but he knows he can't do that unless there are drastic cuts in government spending, and Congress has to agree to that. After he brings the troops home and makes corresponding cuts in military spending (which he can and will do) there is a fair chance that the budget will actually be balanced, which was never achieved in the Bush administration. (And no, it was never balanced under the Clinton administration, if generally accepted accounting practices are used.)
BUT... to actually eliminate the income tax there would have to be another trillion dollars of cuts on top of that. It is not possible to make cuts of that magnitude without deep cuts in entitlements. Doing that will be the mother of all political battles, and I don't expect much success.
First paragraph is the 'hook'
I'm the Holly whose mom Lorraine and son Anthony are interviewed at the end. I spoke to Lisa Anderson several times in reference to this article. She is a thoughtful, intelligent journalist of integrity, purpose, skill and talent. And a very charming woman.
I believe the first paragraph was presented that way on purpose. It's meant to show how at first glance, Dr Paul's positions sound crazy and radical and outrageous. My experience with people new to Ron Paul and his positions is that they DO sound crazy the first time you hear them. Lisa and I discussed this at length. Rest assured that she completely understands the philosophy behind RP's positions and she is not attacking them; on the contrary. She admires Ron Paul very much and I think that comes through in the article.
No need to school her on Dr Paul's positions - she knows. What she wanted to discover is what is the source of this huge groundswell of support, how is his message striking a chord with people of all types, and who is this person with this message.
I don't think there's been an article yet that covers the man, the message, and the movement in such a clear and positive way. If anyone deserves a flower bomb, it's Lisa Anderson of the Chicago Tribune!
"Mr. Paul"
I also noticed they reffered to him as Mr Paul throughout the article. Since he is a doctor it seems to me that they should have said Dr Paul, am I right?
I don't think so
Politicians are all called Mr. whether they have any other sort of title. (E.g. a PhD).
Interesting Picture....
I get the Chicago Tribune since I live in Illinois and I have been waiting for them to do an article on Paul for a while. They have been doing a series of articles on every candidate for a while now. The article isnt that biased, although I dont like that they started off with all the things he would cut right a way, I suspect that would stop some people from reading further.
The press is good, but the picture they used was a bit strange. Its just Paul sitting in the middle of a room all by himself. Even people who dont know much about him thought it was strange.
But overall it was good.
the writer's email
please can someone post the writer's email? I'd like to send her a nice letter thanking her for a great article.

That was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Good!
hahaha Chocolate Chip cookies.
Best Article yet in the "Main Stream" Press
You can't ask for a better article than this.
If Ron Paul gets a month of this kind of press I think he has a great chance of winning.
There's two debates in a few weeks, a national sign waving event the first weekend of December and then the big money bomb. With all of that, there should be pretty good name recognition.
You think so? Just wait for
You think so?
Just wait for April 15, 2008.
When everybody will be after the visit in the accountant office.
BTW, we have to think of some action around April 15.
Ideas, please.
