I'm originally from Memphis and people have been warning of this earthquake for a long time. About 15-20 years ago the city started retro-fitting parts of the city to try and mitigate damages from a destructive earthquake. I know that the I-40 bridge had work done to it about the same time that the pyramid was built. People always said that if Memphis got the 'big one' that the famous 'Mud Island' would sink.
If my memory serves me correctly, the Madrid fault line is about 100 years overdue for a large earthquake. I was 8 when the 'Big One' hit California in 1986 and shortly after that people in Memphis became concerned of earthquakes. I remember being scared to death of the things because I just remembered seeing the news reports of the people who got stuck in the collapsed parking structures.
I don't think the article is anything to be concerned about. These are the same warnings that have been relayed for years.

can push nature over the brink then this is all the more those that are wanting demand destruction will need to get the ball rolling.

A lot of people have
predicted that the Mississippi River will change its flow and end up emptying itself into the Great Lakes instead of the Mexican Gulf. A big earthquake in the New Madrid area may be the catalyst for such an event.
