Well, if George Fenneman says it's healthy to smoke
It must be true. You can bet your life.
Jees
I think it's funny that some people are still asking the question. Is smoking cigarettes bad for your health?
"I don't want to be in a battle . . . but
waiting on the edge of one I can't escape
is even worse"
"I have found that being rich is not about having the most but about needing the least"
You have to be kidding me
A tobacco propaganda film has you convinced? I guess you've never had a friend die of lung cancer from smoking.
I've been to far too many funerals and watched family waste away to nothing over these cancer sticks.
It was a cigarette commercial, it's a proven fact they have done nothing but lie from the beginning.
The whole anti smoking campaign is a replacement for the smoking campaign funded by the same people. They got their hands in pharma (products to quit) Where do you think the nicotine for those patches and the gum comes from? They now have the highly addicted smokers and highly addicted non smokers to their "nicotine" products, be smarter than an ashtray will you...
Same product different delivery system. They diversified and expanded their market share , simple as that.
humor is lost on you.
Try to drink less fluoride.

i think i peed myself a little.
Flouride doesn't affect humor
but thanks for the warning.
Well that commercial from the cigarette company...
.is proof enough for me! I'm starting smoking today!
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...
This is cute...... but let me throw something out there.....
Now that we know what we know about the plan for world government and elimination of individual rights...... AND the need by the elite to have the public willingly PARTICIPATE in the loss of their freedoms...I have decided that the 50 year "smoking crusade" has been an extremely successful manipulation of the American Public into foregoing individual rights in exchange for POWER over others.
I have long thought that the battle against tobacco was a brilliant move in this direction. This extremely successful battle has engaged the public like no other. Americans have ENTHUSIASTICALLY supported laws that eliminate PROPERTY RIGHTS as they demand that restaurant and bar owners make decisions against their own interests. Americans have
ENTHUSIASTICALLY embraced the "right" to intrude on the freedom of individuals, enabling them for once in their lives to feel SUPERIOR, and SMARTER, and MUCH wiser than the smokers. In essence giving them a small taste of what the ELITES feel toward all of us. The orgasmic "High" that the populace has been given to feel powerful, and "in the majority" on this issue has been like a drug and has made them hungry for more.
So the "battle against smoking" has not only enabled the government to take the PROFITS of "big tobacco" in order to - NOT promote non-smoking education - but to buy more luxury jets and create more collectivist programs.... but it has been an incredible success at LURING the populace into the seduction of POWER.
Americans, who in the past would NEVER DREAM of infringing on their neighbor's right to do whatever they wish on their own property, and who will fight rigorously for "freedom" and "liberty", see no contradiction in approaching their neighborhood association, or City Council, or County officials about enforcement of rigid anti-smoking laws up to and including inside someone's private property and even their homes. In their "high" of omnipotence the lines get blurred and power wins.
We used to be told, when I was young, that "the devil" lures you into his trap with something very small. Then once you have given up your principles on little things, it is much easier to be lured deeper and deeper into the abyss. I believe that the "anti-smoking" crusade was a very clever way to lure the populace into the abyss of overturning property rights, individual freedom, spying on their neighbors, and gave them more and more reason to look the other way on an abundance of OTHER issues in the process. By using the addictive nature of POWER on the populace, they have almost had a complete victory over the Constitution.
It is not "smoking" vs "not smoking" that a freedom site should discuss. It is whether or not the GOVERNMENT has dominance over the individual, and whether they are ALLOWED, via the Constitution to enter this discussion.
Actually in MANY of the discussions on this site, the easy path of dividing us is to take up a discussion of people's BEHAVIOR (whether it be smokers, Mexicans, gays).... . when in fact our ONLY discussion on a liberty site SHOULD be what GOVERNMENT'S ROLE should or should not be in whatever area we are discussing.

good thoughts
well said. i've never really thought about the smoking issue that way. good point at the end about keeping our conversations at this site more about the government's role and whats constitutional, instead of arguing over personal beliefs or behaviors.

Thanks.....I just remembered one more.......
In preparation for the citizen security squads we have been hearing about, this smoking issue has also been used to have parents enthusiastically support having their CHILDREN report on smokers.... their "ex", the parents of the child they might spend the night with,... to the school, etc. This has been ONE of the most brilliant moves yet at getting public participation in their own downfall.

Tobacco has some health benefits...
It promotes the production of hemoglobin (oxygen carrier in the blood) and acetlycholine (electrochemical carrier in the nerves). However, the paper, the additives and the pesticides used to grow tobacco are not. Nevertheless, additional vitamins can reduce the carcenogenic effects of these additives.
Nonetheless, smoking is messy, destructive and expensive. (you should see all the unwanted holes I've burned). Smokeless tobacco has even more damaging additives (such as ground glass, to promote absorbtion).
Like everything else, you just have to weigh the cost / benefits.
LOL
Yes, tobacco does induce the production of more hemoglobin...but so does a few tokes from a tailpipe of a 57 Chevy.
The reason you produce hemoglobin is that with every puff, you are inhaling carbon monoxide, which irreversibly binds to hemoglobin making it downright useless. You essentially destroy your body's ability to carry oxygen.
Your body responds to this destruction by making some new hemoglobin, so you can destroy some more the next time you put a fresh coat of tar down.
Sometimes, the Surgeon General is telling the truth. Smoking is universally bad for you, there is absolutely no redeeming quality.
It's been almost 6 months since I took my last puff. Smoke them if you like, but don't lie to yourself and others and say smoking is in any way beneficial to your health.

30 year habit dropped
After numerous tries through the years to quit smoking, I finally came upon the sure fire way to quit.
You have to understand how the mind made you start smoking and what it menas to the mind for you to quit. The mind feels as if it is "losing: something by quitting., and NO ONE likes a quitter!! Thats what the mind tells you.
Instead, try this. Don't say you are quitting. Just DECIDE to NOT SMOKE for 1 hour, then 2 hours, then a day. You make a determined decision and say, "I DECIDE to NOT smoke today".
It's the same thing you did to start smoking. YOU made the decision by saying, I think I will try smoking. You DECIDED to do that.
I smoked for 20 plus years and did this and haven't even had the desire for 2 years now. It wasn't even hard to do and there were no drawbacks or symptoms. When people said, " Wow, you quit smoking"? I always said, "No, I didn't quit, I just decided to NOT smoke".
It really is easy. Good luck.

Quiting not easy
I wish I could quit smoking...I have tried the gum (I threw up all day) I tried the patch (no matter where I put it..that part of my body would swell and go numb) I tried cold turkey (hubby barely lived through it...but I did manage to cut back to half as much) and that new pill..I cant take it...It has an anti depression medicine in it...those type of meds make me want to save the government the trouble and off myself. (I have chronic FMS and anti depression meds is the 1st thing doctors give you...I tossed mine in the trash ..being a zombie isnt worth it)....And yes..tried home cures to stop smoking..ALL back fired.
But....if anyone is firing up the doobie....dont bogart..Pass it on...snickers
Freedom is another way to God...A corrupt government is a straight way to hell.

i quit by chewing straws cut
i quit by chewing straws cut down to the size of cigarettes. Whenever I felt like having a smoke I'd just put the straw in my mouth and chew on it a bit.
As a smoker I would have to strongly disagree.

Actually Nicotine Meets the Federal Governments Definition of a Scheduled Drug. Cigaretts by Federal Statute Must be placed on schedules 2-5 and be only available by a doctors prescription.
All you smokers would need to go to the doctor to get a scrip for cigarettes or get a medial nicotine card or face having the DEA bust down your door. Your car searched for cigarettes and chew when you were pulled over. "You been smokin boy?" You smell like Marlboro's.. LEt me see your medical nicotine card.... .Step out of the car...
