Why is the religious right getting blamed for the GOP's loss?

0 votes

I have recently been seeing a lot of articles and blogs saying that the gop lost because of the religious right. Why are they coming to this conclussion? I know for a fact that the religious right voted for mccain and mccain is far from religious. Is it because the religious right have a tendency to be more conservitive? Are they getting ready to start another inqusition on the christian's that they can not control? Why are they blaming the religious right?

I'm in the SC bible belt

and it seems the "religious right" here are mindless sheep. Up here, their viewpoints are in line with the zionist movement.

Hell, they would vote for George Bush (either one) if he ran again. They are so misinformed about politics the majority voted straight republican ticket without realizing they were keeping in a liberal (lindsey graham) and shunning the conservative (Bob Conley).

Abortion no, bombing Iraqi children ok? There's a ter_ _ _ists under your bed mentality. Who the hell are they listening to? It sure doesn't seem like their creator.

No one has blamed Ron Paul.

No one has blamed Ron Paul. No one cares about Ron Paul.

No matter how important we see ourselves, that doesnt make us important to the rest of the world.

I remember

it being discussed after RP refused to endorse McCain. Then there was a lot of talk about him costing him Montana.
Seems that was all people were talking about back when McCain was trying to consolidate the party.

"It's just one big Club - and WE ain't in it"

"Tyrants fear nothing more than insubordination"

"It's just one big club... and WE ain't in it!"

Well,

they've tried blaming blaming Ron Paul and Sarah Palin and that didn't work, so....

"It's just one big Club - and WE ain't in it"

"Tyrants fear nothing more than insubordination"

"It's just one big club... and WE ain't in it!"

blaming blaming

they're just going to continue looking for a scapegoat. But we'll know that they have hit bottom when they finally blame the neocons and the fact that they have strayed too far from conservative principles.
Keep an eye on that.

"It's just one big Club - and WE ain't in it"

"Tyrants fear nothing more than insubordination"

Because the religious right

Because the religious right has yet to learn and understand of the nature of separation of Church and State. For decades, politics has been dictated from the pulpit which has only served to help divide a nation. Abortion, Stem cells, 'prayer in school' and numerous other issues. Christians made these issues part of politics for way too long.

I'm not saying the GOP lost because of religious reasons, but if they did, then those are the reasons why.

the religious right are so

the religious right are so religious they are hypocrits ... they pretend to believe in freedom for all .. when they should really say they believe in freedom for a few ...

they dont know where to draw the line of separation between religion and state

they forcefully inject their personal beliefs into the party and they are destroying it

im not anti christian .. i follow alot of christian beliefs ... they have their own agenda ... and it is not freedom

Because...

*...they stole the term "conservative" from me, and they are the opposite of true conservatism.

*...they are based in authoritarianism (fascism) as opposed to libertarianism

*...they made an easy target for media to present flakes, who are then taken to represent conservatives, causing the vacuation of political thought, propelling the false left/right paradigm, increasing the ability for "The Party" with the two wings to take advantage of stupid people and destroy my nation.

*...they are EASY to control, were used to get Bush elected and create a false right wing, and now will be EASY to control again to again keep propelling the false two-party duopoly.

*...they waste their time with pointless BS like posting ten of the possible 54 Brahmatic Commandments because they are childish and need simple 3-word phrases and the threat of damnation to behave, believing that one party will ever do anything about abortion because they can't discern facts and understand recent history, and so freaked out about two gay men kissing that they are fine with killing little brown babies with carpet bombs.

I could go on. As far as your comment: "Are they getting ready to start another inqusition on the christian's that they can not control?" -- First, the only other inquisition I know of was Christians getting their rocks off killing and torturing Pagans, Jews, Gnostics, Athiests and Muslims for a couple decades. Secondly, if you believe the MSM hype that Christians are being pursecuted in the US - you may need to step back and actually do some reading.
Yes, that poor 80% majority of America - how do they survive this tortured existence of being Christian in the most religious country in the world??

I normally don't reply to a remark like this- it's divisive

but nominal (in name only) Christians are NOT truely Christians at all! Y'shua (Jesus) said, not all who call me Lord, Lord, will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who obey my Father in Heaven. He also said, Bless those who curse you, pray for those who despitefully use you, do good to those who harm you, then you will show yourself to be a true child of God, who sends rain to the just and the unjust. There were Christians, like Corrie TenBoom and others, who rescued Jews and others in the time of the Holocaust. Also, false Christians not only persecuted those of another faith, they persecuted true Christians who disagreed with them doctrinally.

BTW, I want to apologize for the Judgemental attitude that Christians have (and also for myself, because I know my posts have not always been gracious)
I stand by grace alone, I by no means am perfect, but He is making me more like Him as I study God's word.

Thanks Libera

I understand what you are trying to say. And, I was trying to focus my remarks on the group in question, the "Religious Right". I know it is somewhat of a nebulous term, but for me I guess it means the populist forms of Born-Againism such as the megachurches and the Falwell/Robinson media machine that influences their flock with unitary political thought (or at least rote talking points) - and those who pushed Bush as the "True-Christian" Conservative he is obviously not.

I think you have to understand also, that no matter which sect/cult of Christianity someone belongs to, they are the real Christians in their mind. My family is Catholic, so of course they know it is the True Church. I don't want to debate that point, but you have to admit that populist religious movements such as the one I mentioned, the anti-Catholic movement in the 50's, and even the Nazi Party and the Spanish Inquisition all have one thing in common: Unitary thought of the followers. And they are always "in the right"

cause they hijacked conservatism

The moral majority hijacked conservatism (libertarianism) a few decades back and effed everything. Now the establishment GOP is all about legislating morality and intervening where we don't belong.

Because of the War.

American Christians feel that Isreal must be protected at all costs...appearently even at the cost of everything I've earned as an American and my reputation internationally as an American.

Zealotry plain and simple. It has become realized among mainstream america that the nature of religion does not allow it to tread lightly regarding ideology and politics and they are horrified by church based hate seen during the war and during the election.

When hate, ignorance and intolerance cease to be the main outputs of the church, then maybe they will regain a foothold in american politics.

Stark Hypocrisy..

is why. You say so yourself..."I know for a fact that the religious right voted for mccain and mccain is far from religious." McCain held nearly nothing in common with the Republican party except Iraq.

1)
When you claim a higher moral "authority", which the religious right does, then you will expected to be moral and have integrity. Look at the stark hypocrisy and dishonesty of the Religious right this election. Who were breaking party rules? Who were lying saying only Huckabee spoke for ending taxes...ect.., Who began slander and character assasinations of a man of great integrity.

2)
Is it because the religious right have a tendency to be more conservitive?
NO.. It is because they impose their religous sharia concepts as a higher authority than the law of the land. They continually have shown they will ignore the law and rights of those they don't agree with.
Consider the war on medical marijuana. Consider the blind ZEAL for death in Iraq based on religious belief of a pre-desitined appocolypse vs. Following the constitution...and non-intervention.

3) They have a world view that says..
INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR RIGHTS ARE THINGS TO BE SACRIFICED FOR A HIGHER CAUSE...They believe they are "kings" appointed by G-d.
Supremely Arrogant. IT is a fact of objective reality. Just look at the last 8 years.

THEY HAVE NO INTEGRITY AND BRING SHAME AND DISHONOR TO THEMSELVES.
THEY ARE NOT WORTHY OF LEADERSHIP.

Don't think of it as `gun control', think of it as `victim disarmament'. If we make enough laws, we can all be criminals.

Well...

The "religious right" does pretty much embody everything that Americans have come to loath about the GOP.

I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of the obstinate fools who continue to support GW in presidential approval polls could be classified as "religious right".

Blind faith as it were...

Doesn't bother me.

The so-called "Religious Right" are statists who want to use the government to impose their religious beliefs on the rest of society. They're willing to shout "1st Amendment!" when the government tries to tell them what to do, but they turn around and ignore the Constitution when it suits them, trampling the religious freedom of others.

The theocratic elements of the Republican party have had a huge influence over its direction since the "moral majority" rose up. They raise money and get out the vote. The conventional wisdom to this point was that you had to pander to the theocrats if you wanted to win the GOP nomination.

This pandering hurts the GOPs ability to win over moderate voters who may like things like low taxes and limited government; they get scared off by the holier-than-thou hubris, the homophobia, etc. The theocrats are at least partially responsible for the "hypocritical" label the GOP sometimes gets.

I read somewhere that "religious right" voters overwhelmingly favor socialized healthcare. I'd appreciate it if someone would fact-check this for me.

The future of the party is up for grabs right now. It's going to be a three way brawl between the old-guard neocons, the liberty movement, and the theocrats. It would behoove us to supplant the "religious right" in the party in the short term. Make the neocons pander to us, at first, and once we've consolidated enough authority, get our own into positions of power.

well

simply put, a large faction of the fundamentalist religious right strayed from the Just War theory and rallied around the Neocon's agenda of fighting terrorism at all costs and the Neocons tapped into the "religious war" mentality of many of those supporters. In effect, that votership does hold some responsibility in supporting the neocon agenda.

War without Congressional declaration? Come on, those so-called "christians"!, get a GRIP. Love your enemy, right!

Look to Chuck Baldwin and others in leading the re-education of the religious right.

They need someone to blame

They need someone to blame for their failure, other than libertarian conservatives like us. Or themselves, of course.

The GOP base---if you remove the Religious Right--is paleoconservative/libertarian.

The GOP elite--and the leadership of the party--is neoconservative.

The GOP base was catered to with Sarah Palin, but it wasn't enough to overcome McCain (and Bush) revulsion.

If the Republican Party had gone only so far as to run against GW Bush, instead of kissing his ass all the way to Election Day, they would have won.

If the Republican Party had gone only so far as to run a lightly principled conservative (Fred Thompson, let's say), instead of a moderate neocon puppet like McCain, they would have won.

They're blaming the Religious Right because the Huckabee experiment failed. They need some fringe group to blame for their own failures.

That they are doing so indicates they have no interest in listening to the facts (or us).

So-called "religious right" are patsies.

Using their religious faith as a hook, unscrupulous politicians and quasi-religious leaders like Pat Robertson have manipulated large segments of the American electorate into throwing their votes and money away on candidates who talk about nothing but emotionally inflammatory but insubstantial issues like flag-burning, gay marriage, or stem cell research.

Like the article "Time for a Palace Coup" points out, the "social conservative" leaders have turned the GOP into a party that can agree on nothing other than "that gays shouldn't marry and that straights can't have abortions and that the unmarried gays shouldn't adopt the babies that the non-aborting straights have." Oh, and that we should never have a Mormon as president.

The result was a "tax and spend", open-borders, New World Order, Bible-thumping candidate (Mike Huckabee) that handed the nomination to John McCain by freezing out any other viable candidates (including Ron Paul and the only other non-CFR candidate, Mitt Romney).

Why do the "religious right" get blamed?
Because anyone who obsesses about social issues while ignoring the REAL issues that will make or break our nation (like the Federal Reserve system, unconstitutional wars, deficit spending, illegal immigration, etc.) is playing into the hands of the enemy.

Without a unique stance on the REAL issues, the GOP have conceded any possibility of offering the American electorate a REAL choice.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive."

It saddens me to see intelligent people engaging in this

To me, it is no different than logically or rationally analyzing a soap opera. It's fabricated drama that too many accept as reality and hence, stories like this and every other story dealing with either democrats or rebulicans. You're foolong yourself bad if you think you will ever make any changes within it. It would be like convincing sanata to let Comet or Dasher lead instead of Rudolph.
I almost put up a post called, "Some are saying if the Hare had run just a little he would have won, why is this?" Fiction is fiction no matter who the characters are.

They have to blame SOMEBODY...

and, as RINOs always say, smugly, "Where are they gonna go?" The religious right has always been a favorite whipping boy of the GOP establishment, except when election time comes around. Besides, they can't blame the Paulistas; for, if they did, they'd have to amit we have some power.

Don't weep too much for the religious right. I had one of them tell me recently that my opinions don't count; but, if John McCain lost, it would be my fault. A pox on them!

First of all the so called "religious right"

is a questionable entity.

Do they exist? Do they exist in numbers?

What is religious? What is right?

Religious right is code for those who worship New World Order religion propagated in the last 4 decades or so. I suspect the truly devoted may be questioning the apostasy taught by the NWO churches lead by John Hagge, Rick Warren etc.

The mission

is to discredit anyone and anything that is conservative. This is to usher America into a socialist state, willingly.

From the propaganda that "free markets" caused the economic crisis, to the constant pounding that America can't survive without government babysitting, to the need for global solutions to the environment.

Don't try and put it into perspective, as most of the people will welcome the tyranny.

The GOP isn't even conservative, and they still blame the problems on freedom.

Welcome to the Brave New World.

Because they deserve it

Theo-wackoes largely pulled the Romney, Huckabee, Tancredo, Duncan, and Brownback levers during primary season -- they supported just about anyone who promised to rain ruin onto the head of the Evil Moor (aka, "ter'rist").

Almost en masse they rejected the message of the Prince of Peace and embraced the King of Fools.

Religion continues to be a convenient cover for venal bigots and larcenous cowards.
