Polling Methodology and Politics

Really great article explaining polling by Rick Fisk now up on LewRockwell.com.

http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/fisk1.html

When anyone asks any of us why Ron Paul is still so low on polls, we are becoming armed with a wealth of logical responses.

From one of the Fathers of the Internet.

"""The Center for American Progress held a 90 minute debate on Monday July 17, 2006 in Washington. Bob Kahn, coinventor of TCP/IP and one of the fathers of the Internet, declared his opposition to Net Neutrality legislation in a talk at the Computer History Museum in January, 2007[8]"""

From what I can understand of the issue, it's another one of these MP3 music type debates. The young people get all pissed off that owners of music and those that distribute it actually want to enforce their right of ownership, and the young people want it for free.

Although the argument does seem to have some merit, ONLY, in that there is a near monopoly situation in the delverance of the LAST MILE service to most places. Here in Toledo, buckeye cable has a stranglehold on the last mile Cable service into the area.

Of course the correct action IS NOT to force buckeye cable to hop through a bunch of arbitrary rules. If they want to block VOIP traffic from their MULTI MILLION DOLLAR investment, then that's their business.

But there had better not be any laws preventing a competitor from coming in and having the same access to the public right of ways and telephone poles, to string their fiber and offer service that doesn't have blocks.

Salient points to take out of this article.

""""Kahn rejected the term "Net Neutrality", calling it "a slogan". He cautioned against dogmatic views of network architecture, saying the need for experimentation at the edges shouldn't come at the expense of improvements elsewhere in the network."""""

AND THIS!!! JESUS YOU LITTLE FREAKY TROLL, DISPUTE THIS!!

"""With the exception of Google's man in Washington DC, Vint Cerf (with whom Kahn developed TCP/IP), most of the senior engineers responsible for developing the packet switched internetworking of today oppose "Neutrality" legislation. Dave Farber, often called the grandfather of the internet, has been the most prominent critic."""

You have had ample time to defend yourself

I came out and blasted your positions with HARD FACTS. All you do is whine about Alex Jones. Who give a flying rats ass about Alex Jones. his only reason for wanting to back Net Neutrality is because he's afraid of being blackballed by local internet companies.

So instead of going out and trying to pry open the markets and allow more companies to compete, he's taking the chicken crap approach of every single whiney liberal. BRING THE GOVERNMENT IN TO HELP US.. If Alex Jones is that popular and that in need of being heard, then he can start emailing his newsletters to people. And if that doesn't work than good old fasion direct mailing works great.

But because he's afraid of being yanked from the "net' he'll sell out his soul to the governnment to "protect" him.

Ron Paul won't do it.. He realizes once you let the Camel stick his nose under the tent, it's just a matter of time before they start controlling everything on the net..

It's a case of short term interest versus long term interest. Sure NET neutrality will help keep someone like Alex Jones, or HELL even Ron Paul in the news and available for all to hear. But in the long run the net will eventually be run by the government JUST LIKE RADIO, JUST LIKE TV, JUST LIKE NEWPAPERS. If we follow the freedom path, we should be pushing for free access to the market that supplies Net services so that companies that want to supply fringe content to their users will have that chance.

Yes I did watch the video

and yes I did watch the video, and this prompted me to go out and actually do some research on the idea of Net Neutrality as I had no idea what it was really about.

As usuall,as was pointed out earlier, that it's just another case of NEWSPEAK. Just like Patriot Act, it's name is meant to make you all mushie inside, when in reality it's just another ploy by the Corporatist/Big Government Fascists to gain control of the one vehicle standing in their way of complete Propaganda dominance, and that's the internet.

Keep the internets tubes free for all.... Keep the government out of my internet tubes...ROFL

Time to act

An excellent article. Maybe the most accurate estimate of Dr. Paul's support is somewhere in between results of traditional polling and those of internet straw polls.

The MSM's dismissal on online polling results partly reveals an inability of these groups to comprehend the value of these newer, more contemporary metrics of political support, as well as a cultural unwillingness to lend credence to any grassroots effort that deviates from the limited options they and their punditry have declared valid.

In some way, there is some benefit to the limited MSM attention to Dr. Paul; as supporters, we have an obligation to use this limited window of time to frame the true nature of his beliefs and campaign ideals, and present them to others sincerely interested in this country's future. Once some threshold of support is passed and is finally acknowledged by the 'political-media complex', there will be a mad hunt for some kind of Dean scream or some sound bite to warp, to demolish public approval. The 'staged attack' business will likely be only the first of several volleys.

i'm not gonna stop

RON PAUL,
i went to the rally @ mt.view. i donated 100$
i am done. done with Ron Paul until he changes his position on " NET NEUTRALITY"

Internet Regulation by the Federal Government Unconstitutional

Ron Paul is against anything that violates the U.S. Constitution. Since the U.S. Constitution no where gives the federal government the authority to regulate the internet, of course he would be against the government mandating net neutrality. Ron Paul is a principled and honest politician. He says what he believes and he does what he says he will do. I don't know of any other presidential candidate that is as principled as Ron Paul is. If politicians don't obey the constitution, there is no rule of law in this country.

Take a deep breath and relax

Relax bromike. Ron Paul or any other candidate has more than one issue. I saw the video of Ron at google. To be honest, it didn't seem like Ron really even understood the question. Even if Ron doesn't favor whatever your position is, big deal. Educate us about the issue and let us make up our own minds. Running around warning us about how Alex Jones is going to crush Ron Paul unless he changes this one position is lame. Ron Paul could be wrong about this issue ( I personally don't know enough about it to have an opinion), but he is right on all of the other issues that matter to me. I could overlook one or two positions I disagree with as long as I know I can trust the man to be honest and consistent. Ron is all that and more. I think it would be interesting if you could show us all how Ron's position on Net Nuetrality is inconsitent with his other positions.

thank you

ATTENTION DAILY PAUL reader:
this is how you disagree with someone, not calling them a troll
the reason i said alex jones is calling him out on it is because ALEX JONES CALLED HIM OUT. now i dont know how many times i can say this, if you think im lying download mondays show for free and listen for yourself
gd
gd
gd it.
i willl say that im a huge supporter, like i said i went to mt.view
donated money
blog alot
but i cant support him on this
also common good factors into this debate, sure its unconstitutional to tell a company they have to give service to someone, but how many rural areas wouldnt even have phone lines if the goverment didnt force the phone companys to install and service the lines.

um? hello

Re to Bromike

""""but how many rural areas wouldnt even have phone lines if the goverment didnt force the phone companys to install and service the lines.

um? hello""""

And in exchange for getting some phones out in the boondocks, we get the phone companies having to roll over every time the NSA wants to spy on Americans. This is the problem with letting that camel get his nose under the tent. Sure you'd let the government come in and start regulating that Alex Jones gets to stay on the net and can't be blocked on the "last mile" of the net(the local providers), but what gives the government the RIGHT TO DECIDE THAT!!! Once you accept the proposition that the government has the right to decide what and what doesn't get to be broadcast on the net, then it's just a matter of time before they start censoring.

So sure you might get a short term win, in making sure someone like Ron Paul or Alex Jones gets a forum in local markets and can't be blocked by the Last Mile providers, but in the long run you've just given your enemies the tools by which to take this great internet away from us.

Just remember how quickly TV was taken over and turned into the greatest propaganda tool of all history. Same goes for Radio, and for that matter the phone system.

enlighten us

instead of hijacking all the comment sections and typing incoherent bullshit. Why dont you enlighten everyone on what exactly is net neutrality and why is it such a good thing. then explain where the federal government gets the authority to implement such legislation. then explain what there is to prevent the government from censoring the internet like they do in china once they get some measure of control over the internet.

that would be way more productive.

Now I like alex jones and all, I havent heard the show that you're talking about as his sites seem to be down for me at the moment. so I guess its up to you to explain the whole thing.

again, why is giving the government any control over the net a good idea ?

freespeechwisconsin.com

Net Neutrality

I can second that.
I can imagine that Net Neutrality is as Neutral to the Net as Patriot Act is patriotic to the Country.

Net Neutrality

The wording of these bills makes it almost impossible to be against it. "So you are against the Patriot act? Aren't you a patriot?". Similiar with Net Neurtaility.

I don't see what the discussion is about in this thread. We obviously all want the government as far away from the internet as possible. And although net neutrality sounds very good, Ron Paul believes it would eventually lead to government control, and thus he's against it.

I agree with him on this point and on many other points. If you don't think he's right, fine. Look at all the other issues. He is firmly against: the bureaucracy named FEMA, the patriot act, FED, IRS, UN, North American Union etc. So please don't be small-minded on just one issue.
