Klein's Shock Doctrine refuted

Anyone who still has any respect for Naomi Klein's book "The Shock Doctrine" should check out this article: "The Plop Doctrine".

The author concludes: "All copies of this book should be shredded and composted in sewage, to return from whence they came."

Check it out.

I got this book for christmas

and it is the biggest attack on liberty and commonsense I have ever read. Klein concludes that Bush is a champion of free-markets. She must be in heaven with all of the statist policies being used now (bailouts et al)

No, oddly she is against them!

I guess they were not "for the people" enough (or insert other lame cliché)...

ps. was the person that gave it to you, trying to influence you? (Ie. just like some people on here gave RP's book to family + relatives).

Thats funny

So far I am over halfway into the book and she seems to praise lord keynes and his socialist policies. I thought Klein would love the nationalization/socialization of America.

Actually the person who gave it to me did so because I always rant about Ron Paul and Austrian economics haha. I also got Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" and that is a much better read than Klein's ill-informed attack on unfettered markets.

pwned!

pwned!

Thank you!

We definitely need as much criticism as possible of the "Liberal Bible". It's good reputation needs to be strongly challenged. There are even Klein supporters on the DP!

His review sort of reminds me of a 'critical thinking' assignment, what with pointing out all the logical fallacies in the book!

Destroyed!

Good to see this collection of straw man arguments so fundamentally refuted. Score one for the good guys!

I especially liked the last line: "All copies of this book should be shredded and composted in sewage, to return from whence they came."

good snippet:

"However, if [Klein] simply changed every reference of 'free market' to 'corporatism,' her book would be half-decent as an attack on the collusion between corporation and state."

Ha!

She wrote a huge book, only to mess up the terms. The state-socialists must be really reaching if they have to straw man the free market that badly.
