"If I were President of the U.S." -- Lakotah elder Russell Means Speaks
Submitted by burlington on Thu, 11/27/2008 - 11:21
Happy Thanksgiving Daily Paulers!
This morning I found this short video featuring Russell Means, elder of the Lakotah nation.
I thought it fitting to honor him, champion of truth and sovereignty, with a seat among us who find pilgrimage here at Daily Paul.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, this video with just a hint of humor on some serious topics we are all too familiar with.

Good stuff there.
Wow,wow,wow
I really, really liked that. I was digg number two. We need more diggs. I would support him for president. Now that would be historic too.

digg #4
you're right, it needs a lot more diggs!
He's the real deal
I loved what he said about the idiocy of property taxes. Owning something should not equate to paying taxes to the government for the rest of your life. That sounds more like slavery or forced indebtedness.

Hmmmm
wonder if we could get up a good game of elites and Indians, ohh, I mean, cowboys and Indians?? Maybe the Indians still have that good ol' American determination in them and could lead us out of this mess we have fallen into. Maybe the Indians have been waiting for us to know what they have always known and are ready to have us join them to set some things straight. Maybe it is time to circle the wagons with the Indians in the center this time. Maybe the Indians can remind us of our Honor. Maybe they have preserved our wild, wild west courage, clear sight, and fortitude. Maybe they were pushed onto reserves to preserve our foundations and will now burst out to destroy the socialism that has destroyed everything outside of their camps. Maybe they don't like communism pressing in on them any more than we do.
Heh heh heh...Elites and Indians.
If secession comes to be recognized by Washington, I think the Lakota will be first in line...I really hope Russell's nation builds steam.

I wonder...
What do you think about this guy running with RP in 2012 as vice president?
"Tyrants fear nothing more than insubordination"
"It's just one big club... and WE ain't in it!"
Or even... the other way around.
Seeing as BO has broken the Old White Man Club rules... wouldn't it be interesting, if only to contemplate... the spiritual head of governance President Means means, with behind-the-curtain stylings (a la Dick the Chain) of VP Paul End-the-Fed ends?
You know, as in leading with your means, enforced so as not to end up with the Ends.
Hey... just thinking outside the box. I don't think Ron would mind one bit.
Two questions
Both of which will reveal my ignorance on the topic of Native Americans...
My first question is actually several questions: Native Americans comprise their own sovereign nations, right? Do they then have dual citizenship with both the Indian Nation and the U.S.? Is there one Native American sovereign nation, or, is it several sovereign nations, one for each tribe? If they are natural-born here in the U.S., are they, in fact, U.S. citizens as described in the Constitution, and therefore eligible for the office of President? I should wholly expect the answer to be "yes," but I wonder whether that's indeed the case, if, in fact, they do hold dual citizenship (even if that other citizenship is on this very land).
My other question is: what word have Native Americans traditionally used to refer to themselves as a people (that is, not by tribe)? We call them "Native Americans" or the more familiar and shorter, if incorrect, "Indians," but I suspect they must have their own terminology for their collective people in addition to group names like Sioux, Cherokee, etc. Anyone know what that may be?
I know "the human beings"
I know "the human beings" is/was a term commonly used by American Indians to describe their people.
Also, despite there being various "nations" or tribes, as far as I know no one needs a passport to enter.

Actually
Russell Means has campaigned against the term "Native American" in favor of American Indian.
You pose an interesting thought concerning dual citizenship.
"Tyrants fear nothing more than insubordination"
"It's just one big club... and WE ain't in it!"
Anyone with Native American
Anyone with Native American blood in their family tree (and there are a lot of us) would be proud.
