William Greider: Change We Can No Longer Believe In

!! D I G G - I T !!

By William Greider | The Nation | November 24, 2008

A year ago, when Barack Obama said it was time to turn the page, his campaign declaration seemed to promise a fresh start for Washington. I, for one, failed to foresee Obama would turn the page backward. The president-elect's lineup for key governing positions has opted for continuity, not change. Virtually all of his leading appointments are restoring the Clinton presidency, only without Mr. Bill. In some important ways, Obama's selections seem designed to sustain the failing policies of George W. Bush.

Greider is right about one thing

but not much else. Obama is no harbinger of change... unless of course you credit him with the demise of our economic system (change we can believe in) and we can hardly do that as of yet, though some blame can be thrown his way for perpetuating the idea that government intervention is the answer... but who can blame him. He seems not to know any better. I hear very often that Obama is a highly intelligent man but I find that difficult to believe. I'm no Phd (as if that means anything these days) but opportunity cost, time preference and sound money aren't all that difficult for me to understand. What's his problem. Perhaps we need to redefine intelligence or at least find out it's true nature so we can stop attributing people as ignorant as Obama with such a virtue. He is clearly lacking. This article, despite its "little on the late side" recognition that Obama is just another politician fresh from the mold, is a complete waste of time. Sure, the author acknowledges that the bailout was bs, didn't work, and probably even made things worse but then he leaps to the conclusion that more government intervention or rather some other government intervention is the answer. Seriously, when will these nitwits learn. It isn't the type of poison, or the timing of the poison or the dose of the poison. It's that it's poison, Stupid! Government intervention is the introduction of toxins into our economic body. If everyone is so intent on continuing the drug war, let me make a suggestion; start with a war against the idea of government. Let us begin to end our addiction to the most powerful drug ever known to man--and I might add, the most deadly. Perhaps, someone should send Mr. Greider a "government patch" in the form of Henry Hazlitts Economics in One Lesson.

Obama's intelligence

I don't think that Obama is ignorant or unintelligent. On the contrary, he is the opposite of this. Like Bill Clinton before him, he is using his intelligence for the wrong thing. He is using it to expand and grow the size of government and take away our freedoms. That's why he wants more gun controls, reinstating the "Fairness Doctrine", passing the "freedom of choice act" (repealing all state and local anti-abortion laws), the Global Poverty Act, (expanded UN funding through our tax dollars) and much more socialist legislation. Make no mistake about it, he is the Establishment's choice for a reason. He knows exactly what he is doing and will probably, as US Representative Paul Broun (R-GA) has stated "govern like a Marxist dictator". We are in for some tough times ahead and we need to be forever vigilant. Obama is dangerous. Too many clueless Americans don't realize this.

Well, perhaps he does know

Well, perhaps he does know what he is doing. Perhaps he understands that promoting plunder will lead to destruction of liberty, a poor nation, and the demoralization of the people of this country, moreover, the world in which his daughters will have to live. If this be the case, then one must still question his intelligence don't you think. If he is cognizant of the outcome of the policies he advocates, he is more stupid than I would have accused him of being.

Even more worrisome is the

Even more worrisome is the fact that Obama supporters are still in denial, still refuse to admit these appointments are phony, and continue to apologize for him relentlessly.

last night at bookstore

I met a staff member who is a Ron Paul supporter and supports Obama as well I tried to explain to him things...he was very suprised when I told him that Ron speaks often against Obama and he promised to watch youtube videos of that.
So imagine how disappointed I was this guy was instrumental in ordering more copies of Ron Pauls book no other bookstore in Toronto sold more copies of Revolution A Manifesto than this one.
And they have a very prominent place on the shelf (12 books left there)...so educating the public takes time and its sometimes a long painful process.

"How can we justify to the unemployed and underemployed in the United States the incredible cost of maintaining a global empire?" - Dr. Ron Paul

The American Founder of our meetup group

shifted back to Obama (he was a life-long democrat-supporter) after Super Tuesday, saying he thinks Obama to be "better socially" for the USA. He's an intelligent guy and I don't know what he thinks now.
The positive thing is, there is (as RP said himself) a wide overlap of RP and BO supporters. A good chance to win many people's hearts when Obama exposes himself as the fraud he is.

Ron Paul was right

I'm not sure I would call

I'm not sure I would call him a Ron Paul supporter if he didn't know Ron's stance on Obama. Maybe a Ron Paul-supporter-in-training :)

But this illustrates the glazed over look that you'll get from most people when you start telling them the truth...something that they don't get from MSNBC.

That would mean at one point you "could have believed"...

That is wrong.

Obama is French for 'liar'.

Nothing that has ever come out of his mouth has even been truth-colored.

As I have said before...

The true legacy of the Presidency of George W. Bush is that his policies will largely continue under a possible Barack H. Obama administration.
