An Apology to Dr. Paul
Editor's note. The following was originally posted as a comment by user TennesseeVol4RP (see here). I have reproduced it here in its own thread:
Dr. Paul,
I am sorry you had to shoulder the load alone for 30 years. I repent for my apathy for my country. I have been self centered, seeking out what the government could do for or give me. No more. It is time to give back, to take back. I just paid off my donations for November 5th. I am well prepared for the tea party. I always read my American history books with awe. I always wondered what it would be like to actually make a difference. Now is the time. This is the American peoples' chance to do this without violence. We must unite and we must act. Let us deal with the treasonous, fire the bureaucrats, and lock up the law breakers.
We will carry you on our shoulders from here. Thank you.
Chris

Last chance without violence
This is the American peoples' chance to do this without violence.
That part of Chris' comment is one aspect that we don't talk about often, and perhaps not often enough. (Sure, we want to stay positive, and yes, we don't want to give "ammo" to our detractors that might use anything negative against Dr. Paul.) BUT the truth also needs to be said without fear...
Many of us have looked ahead, dreading the possible (near) future if Ron Paul does not win the Presidency. It's not going to be pretty.
All empires collapse. And when they do, it usually leads to violence. Even the "peaceful" collapse of USSR's Soviet empire was not entirely without violence; and there was a lot of other misery, hardships and death that took place for years afterward as a direct result of that collapse.
When America's de-facto "empire" collapses, it will mean hard times. And when we have to suffer though a major economic collapse, one bad enough to lead to the disruption of the supply chain - and food and gas and everything else becomes scarce - then we'll likely see more violence than any of us have ever seen in our lives.
The good news is this: We can do much to avoid such a terrible and uncontrolled crash, by simply electing Ron Paul. He'll do many things to mitigate the upcoming crises, and perhaps even avoid it entirely if the Congress will just co-operate with Dr. Paul and the will of the people.
If Ron Paul isn't elected, my personal prediction is that we'll see some sort of "major event" that will make the events of 9-11-2001 seem minor by comparison. This "major event" will break the supply chain, and when people can't get enough food (especially in the cities), the crime rate will skyrocket; and we'll see the kind of violent political change to our country that may well be for the worse. Because when people get hungry, they get mean, and traditional morals get cast aside for survival. It would be bad in a way that most people cannot even comprehend.
So, as always... Do everything you can to help Ron Paul win the upcoming primary election. From that point on, everything will get much easier.
If Ron Paul is not elected... Well... You better have been a good "Boy Scout." (You know what I mean?)
Just like
the movie Rudy, we all will carry the supposed underdog on our shoulders into the White Hosue to change our country back to it's founding principles.
Superb letter !!!!!!
GO PRESIDENT PAUL !!!!!!!

He ain't heavy, he's our hero.
dammit....
don't be so hard on yourselves. The biggest problem is that there hasn't been any way for most of us to make a difference. For instance, I've long wrestled with the morality of paying unconstitutional taxes that I KNOW are going to be used to pay the debt on a fiat currency (which I abhor) or are going to be used to buy bombs to drop on people to further some idiot's ambitions. But what can you do? The system up to now has been so rigged against the people it's unbelievable. The way I've seen things, every course of action ends up with me dead as a doornail.
Take jury nullification. It's a concept older than our Republic, but juries are routinely seated with anyone with any knowledge of jury nullification weeded out. Now, being a Constitutionalist, you could lie to the judge and the lawyers and swear to apply the law "as I give it to you" just to get on the jury, but then when deliberations roll around and your fellow jurors find out you're willing to nullify a marijuana possession law, someone squeals and you get hauled before the judge and charged with contempt of court. If you argue, you get another charge against you and the bailiff slaps on the cuffs.
Then you go to jail or must post bail. If you don't acquiesce to the courts demands, then you do time. If you resist the handcuffs, you're charged with resisting arrest and assault on an officer of the court which means more jail time. If you continue to resist, they'll kill you. It happens all the time.
Same thing with taxes. You don't pay, they take your stuff. You resist, you go to jail. You resist jail, they kill you.
Same thing with the second amendment. You get caught with a weapon, they arrest you. You resist, they add charges and try to take you to jail. You resist jail, they kill you.
Same thing with these idiotic 4th amendment violating sobriety checkpoints. You refuse to stop and answer questions, you get hauled out of your car. You resist physical brutality, you get arrested. You'll probably go to jail. You resist the arrest, they'll kill you.
I find it sad and frightening that merely standing up for your rights as guaranteed by the constitution is enough to get you arrested or at least knocked over the head. Or killed.
I am so f-ing POed that every politician and power-monger I've ever run across looks at the Constitution (if they recognize it at all) as a bit of a brain teaser, created to help them hone their semantic skills as they find new and different ways to do end-runs around the intent.
But I've so far had to content myself with resisting the machine wherever I could, which guess what! under the new, broad definitions of terrorism that can be applied to almost any activity means that I could be charged as a terrorist.
Don't recoil. Under this administration, you could be too.
Awesome comment. You
Awesome comment. You summarized American reality quite nicely there.
Here's more evidence of that reality: http://victimsoflaw.net/Stanley.htm
And below is an excellent radio show by Stanley himself, discussing his case. It's an hour long, but worth it. There's a nice Ron Paul quote, but I won't say where, because I want people to listen to all of it. :-)

Me too
I paid no attention to politics at all and was not even the least bit interested in it until 9/11/01, when I thought some of the media coverage of the attacks and the claims of the political figures to be a little fishy. I also prayed to God that day, asking Him if America could let this go and not start any new wars over it, but I received my answer almost immediately and in a single word: "HA." I regret to took a major tragedy to shake me out of my complacency.
I agree
I did 14 years in the Air Force but I realize now that I was asleep at the wheel. I did not focus enough on truly important matters and was way to self absorbed. My parents left me what were dealing with now but I have no intentions of leaving this mess to my 2 children.
Thanks to everyone who has forged the way thus far in this cause. The renewed faith I have in my country and many people who live here is priceless.
I agree with you lemand
It's not fair for us to leave this mess behind for yet again another generation of misinformed, disenfranchised masses. I've got 4 kids of my own and none of them can afford to by a house.
I just came from the my local bank doing a wire. I asked the young lady at WAMU who she was going to vote for. She said she couldn't talk politics at work. I said that was lame and told her the last time I was in the bank, her branch manager saw my Ron Paul shirt, pulled me aside, and started me asking questions. Another desk employee (50 something like me) came over, listened up, and they both asked me for more information. I went outside to my car, got some fliers and DVD's and left them.
I told the young lady about it and managed to get her attention. Then I told her that a vote for Ron Paul would represents and immediate 15% pay raise for her. Now she was all ears. I explained that Dr. Paul believes that the young generation should be able to opt out of Social Security (compulsory welfare) and keep the 15% in their pockets. Or, set it aside, save for her own retirement, and retire early a rich lady. What's not to like? What's not to understand? And I mentioned that she shouldn't have to be saddled with the debt my generation created. Compulsory isn't freedom. It's slavery.
Maybe we ought to "forget" the old folks and focus on 18 to 30 year olds. Freedom seems to be an easier concept for them to grasp than my generation.

the 14th district
I just recently moved to the 14th district of Texas. There are good hardworking people here and various industries: chemical, fishing, and farming that would benefit from subsidies. I believe the voters of 14th district deserve a pat on the back for sending Ron Paul to Congress for 10 terms while the rest of us were still asking Who is Ron Paul?
I agree
100% with that Thanks 14th district of Texas !!!!!!
You have proven that the establishment can be beaten !!!!
"Freedom is a right that can never be won in war, only by each individual "
Here, here!
I agree with that one! You guys in the 14th District are amazing. You've got a real gem there. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of the country!

Helping now...
I have also done nothing to serve my country since leaving the U.S. Air Force. It has nagged at me because I am in love with this country. I have known about Ron Paul for sometime and learn more everyday. I am now dedicated to getting him elected because our country needs this.
I am helping now and one way is through the website I created. I created it with the intention of proving that Ron Paul is not a "long shot" candidate at all. He is clearly a "top tier" candidate and soon to be the favorite.
Please visit www.thecaseforronpaul.com and help spread the word.
nice website
Thanks for your post. Enjoyed your webiste.
God Bless Ron Paul and his loved ones and his supporters!

Apology
I too would like to echo your sentiments. Unfortunatly, until now we have only had the MSM to rely on for our informantion.

Mea Culpa
I admit my guilt as well.

I concur captain...
My sentiments exactly...
This leader we have found, this chance we have, this opportunity, is precious, and certainly historic, and I believe it has a taste of destiny to it.
It is not a question of should we act or can we act, it is simply something that MUST be done, we MUST act, all of us. I think many of us are coming to understand that now is the time, probably the only chance we will have to accomplish something so noteworthy and right, in our lifetimes.
I think of all the ridiculous things that I have spent at least $2300 on in my lifetime, and I realize that here is a chance to spend my hard-earned money on something of consequence and lasting value, something I will remember my entire life. So, yes, I too am preparing for the Tea Party..
