Is this the Guardian guy?

I'm confused...is this the same guy who was featured in that UK Guardian article? It questioned his involvement in urging kids to quit speaking to their friends and family?

Here's the article

That's the guy in the video, right?

Fail

Is this video suppose to be ironic?

He's participating in the same ideas he condemns.

Spreading a message of an oversimplified reality in order to advance one's goals. Sounds like propaganda to me. If you presuppose that you have rights to things, it's easy to claim that someone took it from you. Without a God how do you have a right to anything? Some moral system that's completely arbitrary? Some system that you believe is right because others agree with you? How is that different from the current system, except that you are at the bottom of the current system? How about he builds something for himself instead of blaming everyone else. It's one thing to point out different perspectives on various systems, it's quite another to start crying about your position in life and how unfair it is. Way to twist great ideas expressed by people like Chomsky and RP into hate. Way to fail high school philosophy.

That was really well done! Definitely worth watching.

It will be easy for some to disagree, because many are hopelessly lost within the systems.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

strict libertairian

Most of the coments are correct but just like always attacks on religion It seems can't be avoided with many libertairians. Because of his remarks on religion most people will reject the whole message.

Jive ....

a lot of anarchists feel that way.... but don't let that bother you.

His whole speech is correct but he misses the point of the R3VOLution is about a worldwide consciousness awakening to human freedom and liberty.

He is right and Ron Paul is right and we are right.

There is no ONE WAY path to the R3VOLution ..... He should do his Freedom Radio, books and mags and videos.....and we should do ours.

As long as the movement is towards greater and greater freedom...

One thing about us, we all have our opinions and like cats, we go our own way and push for freedom where ever and whenever we see a lever to do so.

Today it may be becoming a PC. Tomarrow a letter to the editor. Next week it may be a vote for Ron Paul. And next month it may be writing an essay on a website.

We all are moving forward against the State. The 9/11 truthers, Birtchers, Ron Paul'ers, libertarians. leftist anarchists, leftists, civil right attornerys, and the list goes on and on and on.... its a world wide awakening to the ideas of Smaller Government giving birth to wider freedom, wider prosperity, and wider safety and even, wider equality.... Its an awakening...

Anarchist think they have "the way", libertarians think they have "the way", Ron Paul thinks he has the "the way" via PC GOP takeover........ I submit to you... its ALL the Way.

How can we bring them together?

Your paragraph:

"We all are moving forward against the State. Its an awakening..."

So very true. I have long been pondering on a way to get these groups together. I would not suggest getting anyone to change any of their beliefs or motives, just to agree on one principal: "We want to live as free, peaceful people, unencumbered by government."

Now, if we put our heads together, do you think we could find some way to bring these groups into a very loose alliance, even if only as an informational network? If that could be done, we would all have the strength of numbers and I suspect the numbers would be terrifying to the establishment. United We Stand, Divided We Fall.

This fellow is very impressed ...

With himself!

Never mind that his philosophy contradicts itself and he doesn't even realize he's speaking out of both sides of his mouth. For instance, he says that owning another human being is immoral. (I certainly agree with that). However, by whose authority do we decide what is moral and what is immoral? Based on the video, I can only assume that each individual gets to choose his own morality because he certainly doesn't think government or religion are capable. I'd like to point out that Ben Bernacke has a different view of what's immoral. Between you two, who's to decide?

Perhaps he's been too busy having deep thoughts and making videos to realize that human beings are truly social animals ... they start out as families, they have language skills to communicate with each other, they tend to congregate with like-minded people ... they share tasks .... they even play games together. Obviously, rules need to be fashioned so that people don't overstep their limits. or so that everyone in the game knows what's going on and how to keep score. So, there must be some form of authority

Most civilizations were formed by families which grew in size, strength, technical skill, etc. until they became tribes, then nations.

Much of what this dude spouts is made up out of whole cloth I'll grant that there are some bright flashes here and there, however.

As a Roman Catholic, I take my morality from the 10 Commandments. I believe that every human being is made in the image and likeness of God (i.e. that each has an immortal soul and that this fact confers dignity upon each and every one of us, no matter what our condition or "quality" of life.

Though my body be in chains, my freedom resides in my mind. In this world, that's the only freedom worthy of the name.

Well that's the

part where you're controlled by a false religion. Don't get me wrong the ten commandments are a good from of keeping the peace..

Real Patriots for 9/11 truth -- http://patriotsquestion911.com/

Truly, the 10 Commandments are excellent for keeping the peace!

If only men would take them at face value. Instead, we have men who make whole careers out of trying to deny God, just so they can live as they please ... using other human beings for their own gratification (sex, money, power, etc.).

If God exists, then there is ONLY ONE TRUE RELIGION and all other religions are false in varying degrees. If God does not exist, well, life is a free for all.

Any person who loves and seeks the Truth will find it ... God has promised this. Truth is a person: Jesus Christ.

A most interesting

A most interesting perspective and I would say, the Livestock Management System, is true. I would have doubted that five years ago and argued that it was nuts ten years ago, but it does seem increasingly real as our "freedoms" are being stripped from us. I disagree that faith in God is superstition, however. My own personal experiences say that it is not.

Well Put in many ways

the video is mostly true i

the video is mostly true i guess in theory.
but the narrators's self satisfied, stupid voice started to really piss me off

High concept

I agree with Greenbean.

I've had that reaction to him since he posted a rambling, thirty minute rant against Ron Paul and his supporters on YouTube. He has an old account with no ten minute limit. He could edit most of his stuff down to 1/8 the length, and nothing would be lost.

He lives in Canada. Doesn't sound like a Canadian accent, eh? I haven't heard an accent like that since my month in Mensa. I joined that organization oh, maybe ten or fifteen years ago, thinking I might meet some nice women at the parties. The very fact that someone stupid enough to think that could get into the club is proof that their standards are not all that high. I went to a couple of parties, then let it lapse. I got a letter from them only this week, inviting me back into the fold. I guess times are hard all around.

But I'm rambling like the Canadian guy. The cattle video has a high concept, but it could use a less pompous sounding voice-over.

greenbean does not like an English accent?

"Mostly true in theory" -- may I submit to you that that statement is ...false.

What proves a theory but the hard facts found in reality?

To say that such and such is "true in theory" means it must be true in reality. You might want to keep in mind that what makes a theory true is the testable facts that come from reality.

To submit a theory on how life evolved, or submit any theory, its correctness can be found by checking the facts found in reality.

To submit the world is flat, that the oceans have an edge and boats drop off, its a theory....proven false by the facts found in reality.

To submit that the sun is the center of the Universe is a theory...also proven false by the facts found in reality.

The nice thing about a theory is that it is a proposition that can be proven false by facts.

Darwin submitted the theory of evolution to explain how life evolves, via natural selection which is a process of variation, selection and adaptation. So far, the more facts we find in the "natural world", the more it goes to supporting the theory of evolution.

The theory that we are treated as cattle that is harvested (taxed) on National Farms, is testable view of political theory. It is more than "just a point of view", it is testable. Testable by the history of facts and by State actions taken today and future actions tomorrow.

If you are looking for something that is "just a theory" and not supported by any facts found in reality, take a trip to any local church. There I am sure you will be told all about God, the Devil, and Angels, and a whole host of theoretical beings or entities or spirits or souls or what have you... all of which is "just a theory". But it is a fun theory that many people believe in, so enjoy. Meanwhile, I will keep my feet on the ground.

"The theory that we are treated as cattle that is harvested (taxed) on National Farms, is testable view of political theory."

I think you're way outside your realm

You are going to scientifically test that we are treated as cattle. How about you choose to be a cow. Especially since you're aware of the situation. Since when can scientifically test individual perspective. Maybe you can survey whether people would pay taxes if they were fully aware of the situation. But it's impossible for everyone to know the situation. Not everyone's going to agree on what the situation is. And who's job is it to educate people, there's no personal responsibility?

Ha. you picked the wrong

Ha. you picked the wrong guy.
I'am english, I'm from London. I have an English accent. The guy in this video sounds american with a pseudo english accent.
Eitherway, its not just the accent, its the way he sounds like he thinks he's this genius leader who will free the world. i cant really put it into words but i think you know what i mean - it just really annoyed me.

and ironicall - everyone seems to lap it up (very ironic considering the content of his video)

as for the theory bit - i just meant it nonchalantly that the content is true, i guess, but we already know it and he's just modelling it in another way.

I thought he had French accent.

"Moreover, as America becomes an increasingly multicultural society, it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstances of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat."

"But, indeed, no private person has a right to complain, by suit in court, on the ground of a breach of the Constitution. The Constitution it is true, is a compact, but he is not a party to it."

"My" take on this.

Interesting topic and responses. Fact is, a government based purely on the basic individual rights offers the most freedom.

Socialist do see people as live-stock, something they have to manage, have to tax, have to utilize for state profit. They envision an ideal world which they try to impose on the people, instead of the people choosing ideals for themselves without obstructing others to do the same.

Also, there is no such thing as a perfect society. People will always struggle with all sorts of thing in live, rich or poor. That is because god has a lesson for all of us. And until we learned it, we keep reincarnating, to be confronted with lessons again and again. No government can change that! That said, I believe that "the" libertarian society offers the people the best atmosphere to grow in life.

To Liberty!

Half truths, petulent childish complaining and no answers

There is so much wrong with that clip, I can't devout the time to demolish it all. See Ayn Rand, et al!

Its a Marxist thesis that farms (capital) enslave us. A farm is at once our servant and our master.

We are, by nature, constrained to work hard to live. Any American is free enough to go out in the wilderness and earn a "free" living. They will soon wish to be back on the farm. The only other alternative is to suicide and tell God is world sucks too bad to live in.

Or you can join a hippy-commune. Go ahead. Many do, and try. Some couples pair up, have kids, then leave. Usually the alpha-males screw the girls and eat the lunches of the guys who get sick of the wolf-pack, and move back to the city or town they fled.

Look at any pack of chickens or dogs or baboons. Men are tragically so similar.

The noble savage is a myth. A recent study in Indonesia, IIRC, showed males had a 60% chance of dying in tribal war by the age 50. Farms don't make wars. Gangs make wars. Jane Goodall recently observed gang warfare in chimps. Drove leftists nuts.

Men fight each other, form cliches and gangs, and war. We're getting better.

Religion is the universal search to find meaning, purpose, truth, beauty, being, goodness and love. Rand called religion primitive philosophy.

So much reactionary nihilism and childish bitching. Its easy to criticize. Very hard to develop a rational philosophy. Ayn Rand has, and would shred that petulant Marxist child to ribbons.

Rand called religion primitive philosphy and yet ...

she was agnostic.

It is the only potential flaw in this video.

To link individual faith as being connected to the rest of philosophy can be incorrect.

It should be looked at separately and as a pre-existing philosophy that neither requires proof of existince, nor proof of non-existence.

It stands on its own and was either first or not at all.

Having said that ...

I do think that the video did attempt to separate hijacked religion from an individual choice in faith.

It is an unprovable philosophy and therefore should be discounted. It is unimportant with respect to the goal of freedom.

Ethics do not come from religion, they come from existing.

WAHOR!!
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/48994

I think Rand was quite

I think Rand was quite anti-theist often, but in later years seems to have become more tolerant. I can't imagine her, at the age when she wrote AS, returning a "God-bless America" like she did in a TV interview when she looked in her 70's.

Quibbling about interpretations of religion and philosophy aside, neither being hard (readily falsifyable) sciences, that video proposed nothing about what one should believe. Just that one be reasonable and philosophic. Reason demands a premise (like "existence-exists") and you can't even get a roomfull of Objectivists to agree. So much for philosophy being non-subjective then.

Lets see this guy propose a political philosophy other than complaining about what is.

Lets

Very good response ...

I wish to add the following ...

If there is free will it is limited to two things ...

To have faith or not to have faith ...

And to exist or not to exist.

I am assuming that faith can only be applied to the unprovable of course.

WAHOR!!
http://www.dailypaul.com/node/48994

IIRC, Choice of attention (focus) or drifting is Rand's

fundamental act of free-will. My philosophy has gotten rusty, but IIRC Decarte's skeptical stance (cogeto ergo sum) was to believe (faith) in one's own consciousness. Anything else could be illusory or mistaken.

Aristotle (in contrast to Plato), Aquinas and Rand all took the awareness of the outer-world as evidence of consciousness;

You must first focus on something "out there", before you can be aware you're focusing on something "out there", and before you're aware that your aware that your aware that your aware that your aware...

Communism

Which form of communism has been the most successful?

A.China
B.Soviet Union
C.United States

I choose C because the illusion that we live in a free country, has disguised the obvious socialistic communism, that the United States Corporation of America, head quartered in the District of Corruption has so successfully rolled out to the majority of the kool aid drinking Americans.
