I was pulled over by a cop,and I was on a bicycle
at 10pm after work on Friday December 5th,on Grovers and 54th avenue I was pulled over.Read how I defended my rights.
After work, I was riding my huffy bicycle home from work, and I was pulled over by a cop( i was in the bike lane). He told me i had no bicycle light, and i said "Oh i didnt know it was a law to have a light on the bicycle, never heard of anyone being pulled over for riding a bicycle."
Officer A.Rossa badge number 15152 proceded to ask me my name, and where I was coming from,so I replied my name and that i just got off of work, and that i had not even planned on using the bicycle that afternoon. Officer A.Rossa had a flashlight in my face in his left arm as he used his radio to radio my name and date of birth into the department....and I asked why there is a law concerning bicycle lights. He told me the government protects me,and I said no they dont.I told Officer Rossa it was none of the governments business in concern of my safety while riding a bicycle ,because I am clearly a free person to choose myself. He proceded by asking if I was nervous(only to get me to admit to some kind of behavioural problem), because if I had said yes, he would have then been allowed to treat me as a threat. I replied "No, i am not nervous, its just cold outside, and i dont have a jacket right now." Officer Rossa asked if I had illegal substance or weapons on me,and I said "No, and I don't consent to any illegal search and seizure."He smirked as soon as I cited the 4th amendment,he knew not to mess with me at that point, and I then asked for his badge name and number, that really made his face surprised.
I told officer Rossa that the constitution was made to bind the government, not the people....we argued, and he said "The government binds the people, and the government is all people." But of course me being me, I was pretty agitated and replied back no I am not government, I am a citizen and the constitution protects me by binding the government on what it can and cannot do.
Officer Rossa said to me "You don't know what we do(arrogantly), and what ive done in iraq"...and I quickly replied back riskly that I did know exactly what "they do." I also added in that he had no idea what Ive done, and so he left it at that and dropped from giving me a ticket, and I once again had him tell me his name and badge number again for my own collecting purposes hehe. That guy was a total nazi,he was out to hurt unknowledgable american citizens who dont know their rights.

Where I live there
seems like certain areas that are really soaked with cops. I was driving one area a couple days in a row and in a 1 mile space three cops had people pulled over I could hardly believe it. It happened two days in a row. Weird.

Bike riding to work
My son rode his bike to work about 10 years ago and he was young the police officer gave him a ticket for no head light! Went to court judge laughed about the ticket didn't fine him or anything. Thought it was so supid. But he (my son) lost a day of wages. Some of those police offices need to find a new job. Like at wal-mart parking lots. Making sure the shopping carts are put in the cart holders.
AMEN!
.
You should ride with a bike light
It is very easy to not be seen by car drivers and they don't want to hit you any more than you want to get hit.
My friend was killed riding a bike.
Spend the 10 bucks and get a light and protect someone else from hitting you.
But the concept that they can ask about the drugs and weapons and basically search anyone after they stop them, legitimate reason or not, and that they are trained to manipulate a person into surrendering their rights. It is a good bet that if you had not stood up he would have detained you for 30 minutes and searched you and found a reason to take you to jail. With your bike in the trunk.
Basically it isn't safe to leave your home. You risk arrest and tazering everytime you go in public.
Sounds like that police officer suffered from PTSS..
He needs some Cannabis...

I choose to ride my bike without a light
my bike has reflectors anyway, and I am responsible for my own life and how I ride my bicycle

Cops and your rights
I would like to have bumper stickers made up that say: "If you violate your oath to the Constitution and violate my rights, then: YOU ARE A PIG!"
I don't mean to steal the
I don't mean to steal the spot light but the cops are harassing me too. Two days ago I was driving over to my brother's to drop off some movies and take him to the bank to cash his check and on the way to his place, there are two stop signs. At the first one, I saw this cop coming to the right of me. So, of course I make sure i stop for an extra 2 seconds, wait for the car on the left of me to go, because he was there first, and then continue to go Forward to the next stop sign. I look in the mere, the cop turns and follows me. So, this stop sign there is a student driver car in front of me, I go to a complete stop for another two seconds. I GO DOWN 3 BLOCKS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I GET PULLED OVER FOR NO REASON.
"you know why i pulled you over?"
"no, why don't you tell me, sir?"
"You didn't stop properly behind that student driver, you just coasted."
"No, i stopped an extra two seconds for your information because i saw you behind me sir"
"where are you going"
"my brothers for these dvds and going to the bank with him"
"where are you going after your brother's"
"work"
"where's your work?"
"Bleep bleep"
Then I was like "well if you think i did something wrong so bad, why don't you go check your camera?"
Then he continued for license, insurance. Even though, he let me go there was no reason for him to pull me over. This same cop pulled me and a friend over during the summer months, for "stealing gas" This jackass made me stand on a curb for over 45 minutes, looking like a peace of shit during rush hour. He has to look at the camera for this long, showing him that i am innocent and my friend.
On top of that, today after work 2:00 pm, this old fella (71 yrs old) car pools with me. Well, a few blocks before We turn to his house, a cop jumped right behind me. This jackass was tail gating (car) me all the way til I turned, then continued to slow down to stare at my car, when I did turn.
During each time I got harassed by this jackass, I had marijuana on me or else I would be inserting my rights more heavily. And just to confirm, I'm 20 yrs old, not a trouble maker or 'a greasy hippie'. I've been telling friends and family about how these cops are getting worse, well during the summer my mom got to see it. And today my co-worker witnessed how they tail gate/stare me down. These type of cops should be delt with

I think I saw you on the show COPS.
Weren't you that dude that had his shirt off, racing a riding lawnmower down the street?
No?

Anyway good for you for standing your ground. Some of these "Iraqi Vet" cops think they are still in Iraq, and can muscle people around however they feel best.
They're gonna get a big surprise when they start encountering pissed off, law abiding, gun toting, citizens.
That is how I got started in the Patriot movement back in 98. I got pulled over by a shithead cop for no reason, and no, it wasn't pretty.

i'm an OIF vet, but not a cop
nor will i ever be. whenever i talk about my time in Iraq i tell people how ashamed i am for falling for the lie. i tell them the Iraqi people are not our enemy. pretty much i bash the government and the military. most the government since people still hold soldiers in high regards. and bashing them won't further our cause. although i feel like i'm allowed to this opinion since i was a soldier as recently as 2 1/2 years ago. not that i'm proud of it

Thanks for your service, and I'm glad you made it back. We need you even more here, than over there.
I hope that you can bring your Brothers in arms over to the truth,as well.
You will always have my respect and gratitude for facing the ugly truth of the Iraq invasion.

Lucky
You are actually lucky that he didn't push the issue. Your only recourse is a lawsuit and I'm guessing that if you are on a bicycle you couldn't really afford it. Those pigs don't loose lawsuits as they have the full resources of the county/city/state behind them and if you are lucky enough to win it would be after 3 years and $30k and you would win a token $1000. So, in that situation, who won? You could write a letter to the department and complain about his unprofessional attitude and that would enter his file. Nothing would happen about that but if he ever gets sued then they would most likely have to turn over that letter int he discovery phase. Just a thought.

Here they investigate themselves...
and it takes months, or years...as it turns out none of them ever do anything wrong. Shooting someone in the back who is handcuffed in an alley is self defence didn't ya know?
and you are right if they are sued civiliiy they pay for the biggest civil firms in town
if there are criminal charges, rare, they hire the top criminal lawyers.
I know its good money but my respect for these guys goes to s*it when they take the cases.
Now this is something that the Cvil Liberties Union should get worked up about. They can make noise.

For no bike light???
That sounds a little expensive. There's different elements here that the police officer did not have reasonable cause for such as the drug and alcohol issue. The most he could get away with is giving him a ticket for the broken light. If that is in the state statute. But the rest was BS, legally he could not not have got away with more than that.
