Want a serious, license free radio station for your town or neighborhood?
Here is a way to spread "The Message" that a lot of people anywhere can do.
Range is from 1 to 3 miles. If you add other transmitters that overlap you can extend the range.
Cost about $1000 to set up.
Heard a fellow patriot talking about having 5 transmitters overlaping in DesMoines, He broadcasts the Alex Jones show there and is having great feedback.
If some people were interested maybe we could set up a chip-in to get some of these stations up and running.
I'm plannng setting one up in my little town (pop. 901) in East Texas.
(No chip-in necessary for me.)
The AM1000 AM transmitter is certified by the FCC (FCC certification number NWXAM1000) and is fully legal. An important advantage of the AM1000 is the legality, you don't want to get a visit from the FCC when you are operating an uncertified kit or transmitter.

microbroadcasting
Here are some interesting links on microbroadcasting and the FCC's lack of jurisdiction- unless you're interfering with a licensed broadcaster's signal:

To repeat a comment on the other thread....
Some tips on programming your station:
Whoever provides the program needs to clear it for broadcast on a certain station and in a certain area. Contact the program producers and see if you can get permission. Explain to them you are running a micro-radio operation and would like to air their programming. They will explain the terms to you.
Likely, their terms will include that you run the programming inclusive of all commercials that are included with their program feed. Depending on the rates and arrangements they have with their advertisers, who underwrite their programming, there may be several local "avails" per hour: slots that they have ads running, but that you can cut out and air your own ads in their place (that you can sell and earn the money for selling).
The reason clearance is needed is two-fold: copyright/performance right laws, and exclusivity contracts in some markets.
For example, if (heaven forbid), you wanted to run Rush Limbaugh on your micro-radio, Rush Limbaugh would have to make sure you running his show would not take away listeners from another station in the area that already runs his show. It would not be fair for Podunkville Truth Radio in a suburb of Los Angeles to be granted the right to air Rush Limbaugh, when KFI has been running his show for decades and has established an audience (a marketable commodity: listeners for potential advertisers to reach) that could be diminished (taken away by your station).
It is possible that a station that airs a show for altruistic purposes (rather than strictly for commercial gain) may allow another local station to air the same program, if they are committed to the cause of that program and getting it to the widest number of persons possible, without care for how the person gets to listen to it. When I operated a microradio station, several local stations gave permission for shows to be cleared to broadcast on my station as well.
There are no legal reasons why you cannot run ads on an unlicensed, legal, Part 15 microradio station. The only thing you need to be concerned with is whether you are operating the station as a business, and whether that causes you to fall under local business license and sales tax rules, among others (zoning, for example). If you sell ads, some jurisdictions may require you to collect and remit sales taxes, for example.
Feel free to ask any questions you will. I've been in broadcasting since 1990 and operated a microradio station for several years intermittently, as well as worked in broadcasting in a professional (FCC-licensed) capacity for quite some time.
One more caution: when I started my radio station, there was no internet like we have today, so I could not do anywhere near the amount of research we can do today, in such a short time. I had to buy old magazines and short-run books, very niche materials, to get the info I needed to start my station. I accidentally chose a set of call letters for my station that was being used by, believe it or not, three other radio stations nationwide (two unlicensed microradio and one FCC-licensed station). Because I aired some programming that was from national sources, this caused some confusion at times with the programmers. [Sometimes I would be sent tapes that were intended for the other stations, who would then have no tapes to air that week, requiring the program producer to have to FedEx tapes to the other station (or me) at great expense (large, 12 inch tape reels were quite costly to FedEx).]
Now that we have the internet, research your intended station name, and make sure not to pick a name to similar to an established station. In fact, avoid four letter W- and K- calls altogether, I recommend, as those can only be officially licensed by the FCC. Picking a four letter W- or K- call sign might lead to a letter from the FCC, especially if a new licensed station wants those call letters and finds out you may be using them. Pick a name, rather than a call sign, is my recommendation. Even though you may be operating 100% within the law, you'd rather just not even get onto the FCC's radar for any reason at all. Why draw unnecessary attention?
Good luck!

I second that comment...

Constitution
The FCC aka Federal Communications Commission is unconstitutional. We the people own the radio waves. We the people do not need a license to broadcast our voices under the 1st amendment. The FCC is a communist agency just like the Federal Reserve system.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,
or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
With all do respect some times I wonder what Alex Jones is thinking. He promotes government corruption and Liberty but it is obvious that we the people do not need a license to have free speech and free press. Why does he make statements like is it fully legal? Perhaps we have all become brain washed but please read the constitution and please watch Michael Badnarik's constitution class videos. Do you people not want to be free?
As a liberty fighter why would you automatically ask whether or not it is legal by the FCC to have free speech over a radio wave?
I call this right a human right but many would call it civil disobediant to start a radio station without it being "legal" by the unconstitutional FCC who censors we Americans on a daily basis or fines us for free speech. Free speech is fucking free speech. End of story. If we want our constitutional Republic back we must memorize the constitution and quit fucking asking the government what is legal or not.

Agreed in principle
But Uncle Charlie has a lot more manpower and resources to enforce compliance with their illegal laws, than you have available to you to enforce your rights to not be molested by them.
Much like the IRS and the illegal income tax.
If civil disobedience is your calling, so be it. But be prepared to pay the costs associated.
For all others, unlicensed communications within the legal limits are available and should be utilized before setting up a 100 kilowatt FM transmitter and a 500' tower and broadcasting to your entire tri-county area.

Yes. Just make sure you comply with local regs
for business licenses, collecting sales taxes, and so forth.
Transmitters that operate under FCC R&R Part 15 are exempt from licensing requirements for the purposes of broadcasting, but if you operate it as a business, you may fall under local and state laws.

Anyone know what range this has?
http://killfiat.blogspot.com/

You may be able to cover 100 yard radius
but only with a decent antenna. Your antenna will need to be well-built, and quite high.
As a hobby transmitter, something like this might work, for fun. If you live in a very dense neighborhood, such as a downtown area, a condo development or apartment complex, you might have a hundred or so possible listeners within range. If your purposes would be to cover an area such as a resort, r a fair, or a market, or parking lot, or some other similar place where large number of vehicles congregate, it might work. This is similar in concept--(narrowcasting, rather than broadcasting) to what drive-in theaters used to use, for listening to the movies on your car radio.
I am really impressed with the transmitter that the original poster gave information on. I've checked the specs and it looks solid.
The advantage of the professional model is that it will have better audio and it is crystal controlled, which reduces frequency drift (your station migrating a little from side to side on the dial). Also, as the professional model is pre-built and FCC certified, you are guaranteed that it is 100% legal.
I've used kits, built from scratch, and used transmitters that were designed for overseas low power broadcasting (mission radio, guerilla radio, and the like). Professional transmitters with crystal frequency control are the way to go.
I've used some great transmitters, built some decent ones, but the one advertised by the OP is among the best I have looked at. I'm thinking of buying one, actually.

This is inexpensive and FUN at the same time
Every RP meetup group should investigate this as a serious option for disseminating news and information. Talk radio is very popular. You can get all sorts of great talk radio programs for your station, likely at zero expense to you.

I wish this transmitter had been around when I started a station
...back in the prehistoric days (1990).
I had to build my own xmtr and antenna and of course we didn't have anything like the Internet or cheap and powerful computers to feed programming to the xmtr. I had a cheap set up with multiple timers, dual cassette decks, multiple-disk CD changers and a couple reel to reels.
Now, a much nicer station can be operated from a laptop computer, a microphone, and this nicely built transmitter.
If you are even standing anywhere near the fence on this issue, just do it!!! You will have so much fun and can inform your neighbors all day, everyday.
You could relay an Internet feed, loop a single show (build a playlist in iTunes and set to repeat), do live shows, anything you can imagine.
I'd be willing to correspond with anyone who'd like insights or advice. I've been in broadcasting since 1990.

This is one of the most powerful ideas out there.
The combination of the internet and micro broadcasting with guerrilla advertising is the best way to reach thousands of people.
I helped with one of the first micro stations here in Austin. At one point we had to put the transmitter on a motorhome and constantly move it around so the FCC couldn't triangulate.
The FCC was successful a couple of times in intimidating people and causing them to shut down.
BUT...
Once somebody figured out that the FCC had NO authority locally, and had to act through the Sheriff office people became more brave.
We have video that was put on Access TV where about 10 people ran the FCC off, and they haven't come back to my knowledge. It took about 4 people with video cameras , and one person reciting the law to them to make then turn tail and scramble to their car. It was a great victory, and was replayed many times on Austin access TV.
I'm afraid that many people here are all talk and no action. So don't be disappointed if you get little response.
One positive is that people are more open to the truth ,than ever before.
Do your micro, make bumper stickers, and hang signs off of bridges and you will reach more people than you can imagine.

small towns
I like the idea of rebroadcasting streaming internet liberty stations.
By the way, with a population of 901 I would guess there are maybe 600 registered voters. Do people run for town council or is it small enough that they appoint their buddies? Maybe you could file the candidate paperwork and get a spot on town council next year.

I ran for precinct 26 (Smith County) chair during the primaries and won a two year term.. 142 votes to my opponents 141 (never let it be said that one vote dosen't count), was a delagate to the county convention and then to the State convention in Houston.
The local GOP probably won't like my programing when I get set up.. LOL
