This country is in a recession, it just hasn't hit you for some reason.

I'm not "waiting" for the collapse as I hope it never happens. But, I do expect it to and have prepared as best I can for now. All the time between now and when it hits is just more time for me to prepare.

If you don't see it, just look at all the different clues and think about what the ramifications of it all will be. For example, the mortgage/housing crisis. Millions cannot afford to pay their mortgages and just as many are upside down in their debt. Then look at all the job losses over the past year, then last month it hit 533,000 jobs lost AND I believe September & October numbers were revised HIGHER than initially reported. All these jobs lost will be a further drain on the government via unemployment and they will probably have difficulty paying their bills, it may just set them over the edge - especially if they were living paycheck to paycheck as many people in the US do.

Other things to consider are things such as food production, the possibility of global cooling and it's ramifications, etc. Worldwide grain reserves have been declining for around 10 years or so and are very close to the zero level where they are needed immediately after being produced. Much of that is fueled by young people in emerging economies such as China and India. They are moving to the big cities and getting city jobs. When they were in the villages they grew their own food and had their own livestock. Now instead of producing for themselves they are adding increased strain on the global commercial food production system.

Global cooling in the northern hemisphere can possibly be set off by fresh water melting from the icecaps and interfering with the ocean currents that naturally keep the northern regions warm. The warming is causing the melting of the icecaps but then in turn that can cause an abrupt cooling. Too much temperature change can cause food production issues and if the world is close to a "just in time" inventory system for grains then all it would take is a single environmental event to cause major extreme problems.

Anyhow, I've typed enough. It's good to be prepared, even if the worst does not happen.

Squirrels horde food all year long for the winter. Why then is it absurd or "silly" for us humans to horde a surplus of supplies to sustain ourselves? The real fool is the squirrel er I mean the human that runs out of inventory and starves to death while other fat squirrels er I mean fat humans are eating acorn flambe.

Yes I agree... The thing is people used to horde to get them through the winter. The way the economy is today its not needed because We can still get food from the southern hemisphere. Now on the other hand if the system does break down and We can't get food from other areas of the world then were screwed. So I'll keep hording buddy and I'll sit back and watch the Obama Zombies run to Walmart when the crap hits the fan. As a matter of fact I might have to sit across the road eating home made bread while the riots start ............

Even if today were the best of times, you should still be prepared for an emergency.

Two days! It's widely believed that the market (and the economy at large) will be in the doldrums for another year at the minimum, at possibly two or three years, despite promises of the largest public works programs in our country's history on the horizon). You may have gone overboard on all of your panic purchases, but it's probably better safe than sorry these days.

Do not belive anything that you hear. Belive only half of what you see.

Food and water are things you should store for basic emergencies like random acts of mother nature.

Savings and holding real assets are a good thing. Only Keynesian advocates get alarmed about excessive savings.

Eat or donate the expiring food for a tax break. If the system stays afloat you'll need those tax breaks to pay for your carbon footprint.

Being prepared is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.

five years before they knew we were in the last Great Depression. Nothing happens overnight, believe me.

They JUST finally admitted we were in a recession, for crying out loud!

You will never forget you got prepared. Prices are not going down - gold and silver are being manipulated.

Wouldn't you rather prepared and it not happen?

We might consider this a victory, of sorts. They want to catch us unprepared! So, keep doing what you are doing, but don't wait for the other shoe to drop.
