NY cops are getting M4 MACHINE GUNS for New Years eve street beat !!
In the aftermath of the deadly Mumbai terror attacks, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has come out with guns blazing - with a plan to get all 1,000 rookie cops ready to use heavy artillery in time for New Year's Eve, The Post has learned.

The NYPD wants all 1,000 Police Academy recruits trained to use M4 automatic machine guns - which are now carried only by the 400 cops in its elite Emergency Service Unit - in time for the holiday celebration in Times Square.
The recruits currently at the academy will get three days of training to familiarize them with the weapon, police said.
The department also plans to train its 2,000 officers in the Organized Crime Control Bureau. They include narcotics, vice, gang- and auto-crime cops. That means five times as many cops will be able to use these powerful weapons as now.
"In the event of multiple terrorist attacks, these other units will be deployed to supplement Emergency Services," said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.
Kelly had proposed training other cops in the use of the weapon, a compact version of the M16 combat assault rifle used by the military, during previous "tabletop exercises" that dealt with responding to multiple terrorist attacks, Browne said. The final decision to undertake the training was made after the three-day Mumbai, India, assault, which began Nov. 26.
In the carnage in the city formerly known as Bombay, 10 terrorists carrying automatic rifles and grenades attacked a railway station, a market, a restaurant popular with foreigners, two luxury hotels and a Jewish center.
At least 195 people were killed and 295 wounded. The dead included 18 foreigners, among them six Americans.
Police sources said NYPD brass decided to train the members of the current academy class because they are all in one place and it is easier than bringing them back for instruction once they are in the field.
The recruits' three-day training is being called "familiarization" because it is shorter than the two weeks Emergency Service officers receive on such weapons. However, those cops also get training in other heavy weapons during that time.
The recruits' instruction will be carried out at the police range at Rodman's Neck in The Bronx.
There is no intelligence Times Square will be a target on New Year's Eve. The area will be on high alert, but has been so for every year since the millennium.

This would be a good opportunity to let NYC know what we think of their burgeoning police state. Contact the travel and tourism board and tell them you were considering visiting NYC on New Year's but have reconsidered due to the police state tactics and armaments they will be brandishing this year.

Arming law enforcement with select fire assault weapons to 'control' the population is indeed a problem.
It is the next step in widening the gap between 'us & them' and a continuance of the police state.
There is no reason for duty officers to carry assault weapons. None. It is strictly for intimidation purposes and if you believe that we are being manipulated by false-flag operations, then we are the target of the intimidation, not the 'terrorist' enemy.

As I said it's not the arming of cops that's the problem it's the disarming of citizens that the problem. Select fire is not the be all end all. The military discovered that select fire affectionately known as "spray and pray" did not increase kill rates it only wasted more ammo
This is just more "Assault Rifle" "Black Rifle" anti-gun hype don't buy into it. I have a Ruger Ranch Rifle that will take a 30 round magazine and do everything an M4 will do but it's just a varmint gun ;-)
I live in Idaho give all the cops M4's here and they might have a slim chance at putting up a decent fight ;-)
Although a lot of the cops here are liberty lovers also...

No I haven't but do a little research on the subject before You rag me about my post. The soldiers in Iraq have been complaining about the carbines for years because of the exact purpose I talked about. Unless You hit a vital organ the bullet doesn't get enough velocity to fragment inside the body which does most of the damage. The 223 is just a glorified .22LR if You haven't noticed and is pretty much a varmint gun unless You use the 80 to 90 grain bullets which most people can't even find. The rifles don't even have a real far effective range either unless You use the heavy rounds also. More than likely they will be given 1/9 twist rate barrels which are only good for the lighter rounds.

i think i was shooting 55 grain in a ar15 hitting man sized targets at 300 yards my second time out.
straight through or not i was glad to not be the target or down range.

Don't worry about cops getting M4's. If the idiots would have done there homework they would be arming them with something more deadly. The M4 has a problem at close range and that is because the bullet does not get enough velocity when leaving the barrel to do any sort of real damage. If You get shot with a M4 at close range the bullet just passes through and doesn't even fragment. Now the 223 only has problems like this when its a short barrel carbine such as the M4. Now if they really wanted to put an animal down they would give their guys M14 socoms but once again government is stupid.

I suppose even our wonderful law enforcement employees have never thought about the consequences of what happens when we see idiots like Saddam Hussein shoot a machine gun into the air as a celabratory gesture. I imagine it will be okay though. There will be plenty of humans to stop those bad bullets from messing up those pretty asphalt streets.
