As a conservationist

I consider it a moral imperative for me to reduce my footprint (in general) on the earth. I drive a hybrid vehicle, recycle, and contribute to preservation organizations like the Nature Conservancy. However, as a chemist (with a modicum of training in infrared spectroscopy) I'm shaky on the data about carbon dioxide causing global warming. It just doesn't add up. And I don't trust models - some of my colleagues recently undertook research to model some aspects of a single E Coli and they keep running into problems, and they joke, if we can't model a select few parts of a single lowly bacterium how can they possibly model the weather.

Yeah, we should all commit to being good stewards of the Earth, and part of that is reducing our carbon dioxide footprint on principle, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and probably save some money for our wallets, too. But it's a moral imperative, right? So government should butt out, and we should be teaching these lessons to our friends and our children, not enforcing it though questionable laws or pushing a likely flawed agenda through misguided malinvestments.

Global Warming Is Bullsheet T-shirts available

I wish I could attach an image of the shirt I designed.
front:
GLOBAL WARMING IS BULLSHEET
back:
TOP 10 WAYS TO STOP GLOBAL WARMING
Don’t just buy a hybrid.. smash your car!
Quit your job.
Shut off all your utilities.
Move out and live in a cave.
Kill all the herbivores.
Don’t cook... eat raw meat only.
Send Al Gore a fat check.
Stop breeding.
Stop breathing.
Kill yourself.

All the above and more will reduce
carbon emission by a whopping 2%.
Once you accomplish all that,
they cannot say you don’t support our troops.

If anyone is interested I can e-mail an image. Printed on a 100% organic cotton shirts !

Well

So much for that carbon tax. No wait. Thats still going through, I thought the EU is using gore's model to tax their Brzezinski's.

We, the thinking people knew...

Al Gore was a bunch of hot air, especially after he jets around in his big fuel sucking jet. From the minute I heard the first two sentenances from his mouth regarding global warming, I knew the truth about global warming, and I knew he was lying through his freaking teeth to get support from the dummy liberal democrats in Congress.

I am confused by people applauding this

Fortune Favors the Bold

regardless of how you feel about global warming, aren't we all about the free speech?

Fortune Favors the Bold

Sure, its ALL about free speech,

but ONLY if it's something "we" want to hear. Well, hear THIS: In 150 to 200 years, if nothing is done NOW, humans will have to wear protective equipment in order to go outside. I KNOW YOU BELIEVE IN SNOWBALLS, BUT DO YOU BELIEVE IN EXTINCTION?

From what I've read, Al Gore is considering working with our new administration, and although "we" might not appreciate that right now, I believe that someday our species will appreciate it very much.

If you don't mind too much, (and sorry about your luck if you do) I'd like to enlighten you with just a few reasons why "we" should appreciate that right now:
1. New jobs
2. Energy self reliance for the US
3. A healthier environment

I am amazed that most of this readership, which claims to be so free thinking and open minded, can't see the "forest for the trees" on this issue.

OPEN YOUR MINDS TO THE FACTS, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

Thank you for your kind indulgence...and may the force be with you.

Most of the people here

Fortune Favors the Bold

believe that government intervention to solve a problem is

1. immoral because it uses violence

2. likely to make the problem the worse

3. Will follow the law of "unintended consequences" due to the information poverty inherent in centralized planning

4. Will be done inefficiently

5. Will be exploited by the people creating the problem, who will keep doing what they have been doing anyway, but use the law to stifle competition.

The dissenting sceintists have been black-balled...

Free speech is fine...as long as it is for everyone. Many of these scientists have found themselves out of work or de-funded for their opposite stance to the IPCC's postulations. It is Gore's decidedly short sighted piece of drivel and his championing his cause that has specifically created this climate...of course...Gore is just a tool in the hands of the masters...or, if you prefer...simply a tool!

Not this time

Free speech is alright and I think most everyone here would agree. However, free speech that defrauds the public and compulsorily makes us pay for the claims made is a deal-breaker. This issue is not about free speech, but theft. This harms the people and infringes upon the individual.

I think there's a big difference

between suing to block legislation or remove laws and suing someone for fraud if they are stating their opinions about global warming and recommending government intervention. Think about it for a minute; that's political speech, the kind that's most important to protect, even if you don't agree with the speaker's views.

Fortune Favors the Bold

That's a good point

I don't know the details of this lawsuit. I hope it's just to sue to prevent politicians from enacting global warming policies.
Their right to free speech should definitely not be touched...

Al Gore

is a huge mole on the butt of America ;o
Time we called him on it ;)

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

From what I've heard, he

From what I've heard, he just "wants" to sue Al Gore. I'll look around for a link to an actual lawsuit. Great post!!!

Edit: http://forthardknox.com/2008/12/09/al-gore-sued-by-over-3000...

According to this site he is going to sue. Again, great post!!!

I have not seen where a lawsuit has actually been filed

but I did hear our President-elect say that his administration officially "believes it" (global warming) and that it will be treated as a matter of national security.

As far as I know, nothing

As far as I know, nothing has been filed. Still looking. Start the emails...
