50 year old Baltimore Opera company goes bankrupt, big time!

This Baltimore opera company has assets of $50k and liabilities of $10 million.
The point of this thread is: When culture goes out the window (and I love Mozart), the jungle is not far away.

Baltimore is the jungle--and
Baltimore is the jungle--and I don't mean that in a racist way.
I'm a former Baltimorian. I was born there, raised there and educated there. Luckily I was smart enough to get out--so far out I moved to Japan.
Anyway, Baltimore is the jungle! Drugs, random violence, massive theft, and one of the worst accents in the country. "Sorry Hon, but et's truuue."
My point is, Baltimore to opera is like Bush to intelligence.
This doesn't surprise me....
Perhaps the opera company was the one ...
redeeming quality of this city. Now what will happen?
Welcome to the jungle.
Lots of businesses and public entities will be falling like dominoes soon.
The only people we can absolutely, positively be sure will be supported by bailouts will be the bankers. "The owners of this country," as George Carlin said.

Yes, the bankers can now pick up an opera company...
for about 10 cents on the dollar.
I was under the impression
I was under the impression that opera, ballet, and a number of other "fine arts" (along with several kinds of professional sports) are subsidized by the government, rather than anything near fully supported by their audiences and patrons.
Assuming that's correct, I expect a lot of them to go belly-up (or at least into coma until the private sector improves enough that they CAN be patron-supported) if the governments are ever brought back to constitutional bounds.

That means: For each job "created or saved" about five were destroyed.
There is only funding for, what was it,...
Jesus or the Virgin Mary made out of feces. There always seems to be plenty of money for that crap (sic),
The bankers got that money, also.
We haven't seen any yet either.
It ain't over..
...until the fat lady sings! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

This country CANNOT survive without opera companies.
