I am Making the r3VOLution BIGGER! Here is what I am doing.

0 votes

I have enjoyed my Ron Paul Arizona meet up and my Libertarian Brights Meet Up Group, but now I am adding a new Activist Meet Up that will hopefully will grow the movement. -- We will see.

In so doing, I seek to get agreement on some or most of these 36 Major Policy issues.

The details or reasons WHY someone supports those Major Policy issues is not relevant to this Group. Further, its of little interest and space for Discussion & Debate is NOT given. Sounds odd, but the goal is to ACT upon one and all of the 36 Major Policy Issues, not get bogged down in philosophy, political theory, or pragmatic details. The Policy Goal is set, the "discussions" are all about "Taking Action" to make it happen.

What this Meet Up Group seeks to do is to bring together all sorts of people for Political ACTION. This Meet Up seeks lots of People, Numbers, Bodies, Voices...that want to take ACTION towards one, some or all of these policy goals. That is the Purpose of the Group, Loud Powerful Action

Inside the group, policy decent, discussion, theorizing is OUT of BOUNDS, the group is all about ACTION. The PURPOSE of the Meet Up is to bring our large collective weight down on the problem. If its to be directed at the City Council, State Congress, or National Government, the idea is to have AS BROAD A BASE as Possible willing and ready to take action. Writing letters, Picketing, Protesting, showing up to hear and speak to Congressmen, Senators, Legislators, etc. The Purpose is to give a LOUD voice and a LARGE HUMAN presence to the policy Goal in question.

Sure, it will be a very sorted mix of people, but unity of thought is not the idea or goal, just Unity behind achieving certain Public Policy Goals.

A PREMIUM therefore must be placed upon group member TOLERANCE.

Here it is. This is the Name of the Meet-Up and its 36 Policy Goals.

Wish me luck,

In Peace & Liberty,
Treg

How's it coming along?

Ron Paul is pro-Life not pro-choice

Even Ron Paul would not fit into your group because he is in favor of state (not federal) government involvement in abortion.

He sponsored the Sanctity of Life Act of 2007 and cosponsored Paul Broun's Sanctity of Life Act.

Being pro-life and pro-peace are the two most important planks in Ron Paul's platform. Both positions protect innocent children from being murdered by bloodthirsty killers.

Legislation...

That will stop women from having abortions alright.

They never had them until Roe V. Wade.

...you up to sumpthin' sneaky there?

I hear the sarcasm, and I agree with you..

Ron Paul would say: it's not a legislative issue, it is a hearts and minds issue. There are a few who understand this, one group on the pro-life side that has a clue: www.feministsforlife.com

I removed the sexual freedom and pornography points. Too vague and controversial. At most I would refer to opposition to federal legislation.

"yes to protected

"yes to protected borders"
That alone is enough to anger many libertarians who don't want any border protection or controls at all. Explains why I don't call myself libertarian and am not a member of the libertarian party, but a Ron Paul supporter instead, because I believe (as does Ron Paul)in secure borders and many libertarians don't.

absolutely love this

thank you for doing this. you've got it.

you have nailed it. I think building alliances across the political spectrum is the peaceful way to change your country.

Ron Paul was right

Treg, Since you posted "Playing Chicken" way back when,

I have always felt your posts are worthwhile. This should work!

Well Done!

Nice job putting together a thorough list that can bring in dissatisfied Americans from all points of the political spectrum(s). If you happen to get some Obama folks fighting alongside you, there's always the opportunity to throw a little Austrian economics their way!

PS. Wish me well.

xntryk1, you call that the "same idea"?????

That was a democratic agenda justified via a popularity poll. And he who asks the questions in the right way gets the response they want. Big deal.... those are not my 10 policy goals.

STRATEGIC ACTIVISM

Treg:
I agree with your thinking, here is a thread I posted recently that echoes your thinking which I call:

STRATEGIC ACTIVISM
Obviously RP has awakened a movement that has the potential to change this country for the better. The question now is - Where do we go from here?. Here is a concept that could harness the power of this movement and turn it into a force to be reckoned with. It's called - STRATEGIC ACTIVISM!

The basic concept is this: Instead of trying to educate the entire population of the US (which can still be an ongoing process), now start to focus the fire power of the movement on the legislative process and the specific bills that we want to become law.

For instance: RP's bill to abolish the FED must go through the legislative process of passing the required committees as it makes its way to the floor for a general vote. Let's say the committee has 15 members and RP needs 8 votes to get it passed. If he would post the names of the 8 people who need persuading, the ENTIRE RP MOVEMENT could focus all it's efforts and resources on getting those 8 votes. Pass that committee and we are on to the next.

STRATEGIC ACTIVISM could incorporate many of the same tactics as the lobbyists along with some our own like money bombs, massive email and phone initiatives - and, it could be implemented at the state level.

Here's the reality folks! We only have limited time and money and we are up against formidable opponents who have a lot more resources than we do. Therefore, if we are to make the best use of this movement - it's obvious that we need to work "Smarter - not Harder". If Strategic Activism was adopted by RP and the CFL, it could make a huge difference in bringing about the change we all seek!

Ralph, I like it... good thinking

Action, we need focused action, I could not agree more. Let me know how I can help with that .... and this group will help too,

In Peace & Liberty,
Treg

We are really on the same page

and both calling for a plan of action instead of talk. Considering the current resources and numbers, the only realistic chance we have is to work together and smarter not harder.

I would like RP to adopt this strategy and term. I know he has said he is hesitant to tell people exactly what to do, but if he would call on his supporters to contact a specific list of people on a certain day about a certain topic, I think the response would be overwhelming.

Some potential targets would be:
House and Senate committee members, TV and radio talk shows, state officials etc.

My guess is, if he would put out a video once a week spelling out the plan for the week, he would probably get 40-50,000 people to contact the weekly target! It's called using what we got to maximize our influence!

If he doesn't energize the base with a call for action, it will begin to grow dormant and fade! Maybe what we should do is see how big of a group we could get to contact his CFL and call for such a plan! What do you think?

If Ralph Waldo and Treg decide on an issue

and post an action item or two on a daily or a weekly schedule, I would be willing to follow through to the best of my ability.

What might work better would be if we could team up and

present this idea to Ron Paul. If he would agree to get involved, he would know what strategic actions would be the most appropriate for each week and the whole movement would respond to his requests?

Yall want to team up and see if we can get RP interested?

I'm in- what means of contacting do y'all think is best?

That would be Perfect!

Who knows better than Ron Paul who should be pressured in Congress and on what issues! Ron may not want to be directly associated with this, but he could sure pass on some suggestions. I think the C4L is aiming to do something like this, but it is taking them forever to take action and Git 'R Done!

The action could be focused on any level of government.

For instance, if a state was at a critical place and needed some focus, we could team up and contact the appropriate persons.

I would think RP would look at this capability as an addition tool and resource at his disposal. He gives the word and his troops swing into action.

Treg ....

Great list!!!

A bit of constructive criticism ...

I took this list and looked at it as a pledge list for potential candidates ...

The following would have to be reworded, if you want candidates to take the pledge ...

No to the War on Sexual Freedom
No to the War on Pornography
No to the State involved in Marriage
No to the State involved in Orphanages
No to the State involved in Abortion

I am not saying that they are incorrect, I am saying, if you want many more votes from these pledges than you will get in lost votes, they will have to be reworded.

Any link for a website?
Are you considering going non-profit?

WAHOR!!

Rhino, You left the "constructive" part off your criticism

What is your suggested rewording?

Further, who are "these pledges"? and "lost votes"?
