If the Founders had anticipated what would happen if...
there were no separation between the government and the business world I am sure they would have added an amendment explicitly stating that there should be just such a separation.
I believe there is one toward the end of Atlas Shrugged calling for complete separation of the government and the economy.
Read the novel and you will come across it.

AMENDMENT 37 9:23pm
-No direct taxes on the exchange of services,of any individual citizen of the United States,in the contract of employment shall be made.-
----------------------------------
People here illegally or in the process of becoming citizens would be subject to taxes and would be able to keep what they earn after they become citizens.

Secession rights, and Bill of Rights enforcement
First item: Right of seccession. Any person or group has the right to peacefully leave the union; that is, the federal government will not be a forcibly-empowered monopoly provider of "government services" or of anything else.
You can choose not to deal with Apple or DailyPaul, and you should also be free to choose not to deal with the feds. Competition is the only thing that provides honesty, efficiency, and humanity in business -- and a government is just a business that uses force to get customers to pay, whether they're happy with the services, or whether they even use the services, or even if the customers find the "services" harmful or vile. Without competition, don't expect any real change!
Next item: Bill of Rights enforcement. Imagine an important law -- one that lives depend upon, even -- where no real penalty is spelled out for violation of the law. THAT is the biggest flaw in the Bill of Rights. Each Amendment should include specific penalties for those in the government (or, when applicable, out of government) who violate the law, and specific mechanisms for enforcement of those penalties, including overrides by the people if officials refuse to act.
Any tyranny can (and usually does) have a fancy-sounding Constitution that says the citizens have rights; the trick is making sure those rights are enforced.
16th Amendment
The 16th amendment needs to be repealed immediately. The federal reserve act needs to be repealed as well...IMMEDIATELY.

Any time we limit power, we get freedom
Any time we limit power, we get freedom
Any time we govern business, we get tyranny
Any time business governs people, we get hell
The Fathers of this country wrote the Bill of Rights with the intention of binding the government with the chains of the Constitution. But they did not forsee the influence that corporations have on government. Typically, what government cannot accomplish, business will do for them. What business cannot accomplish, government does for them.
I move to support a Constitutional Amendment to abolish businesses operating in government, and, otherwise to abolish businesses acting as people.
Will anyone entertain the discussion, with these topics in mind:
- Businesses give money to politicians
- Lobbying is a right, but should it be funded by fictional businesses?
- Business influence government (as opposed to people.)
Politicians are bound by The Constitution, why not Corporations for the same reasons?
Businesses are made up of
Businesses are made up of people. People have the right to be involved in their government. Businesses are NOT currently allowed to make political contributions.
Would you at least be willing to put the same chains on labor unions that you want to put on businesses?
I am not suggesting
I am not suggesting that we eliminate the ability for the ceos and presidents of big businesses to make campaign contributions. i am suggesting that the check issued or credit card cannot come from that business.
ceo's and presidents are actual people. businesses are fictional. they are not people.
you say that businesses arenot allowed tomake political contributions but they do. currently corporations funnel their money into lobby and give political contributions directly from a fictitional bank account.
I understand the
I understand the reasoning, but as you point out.You limit one group over another leads to problems.
Maybe setting total campaign contributions lower?

maybe, but let me argue my point by analogy
i am a huge proponent of free market. we all are. but that line of thinking was not designed for government. it is an oxymoron to suggest that governing power shall have unbound chains.
what we should strive to prevent is power over the people. power comes in many forms. most notably government and businesses.
i don't think jfk's assassination was a coincidence. i dont think blajanovich or eliot spitzer went down by coincidence. there were certainly motives involved in the taking of these individuals. and the motive is power.
ok, here's my analogy:
imagine you go into the voting booth to vote for who you want to win. next to you in line is bank of america. lehman brothers, a homeless guy, and two of your neighbors.
you vote for proposition x, but your vote only counts for 5 points
homeless guy votes for proposition x, but his vote only counts for 1 point
your neighbors each vote for proposition x, but their votes only count 6 and 4 points respectively
bank of america votes against prop x. their votes count 80
lehman brothers votes against prop x. their votes count as 65
the banks win 16 votes to 145.
this is how the system is currently set up.
Maybe a law would be more
Maybe a law would be more appropriate rather then a amendment.

why?
this is a Constitutional issue, is it not? The Bill of Rights was not written just for "government." It was written to bind all power. It was just assumed that all power would only come in the form of "government."
This assumption has proven false. Our Founders did not anticipate the powers of business circumventing the intent of the Bill of Rights. It is not just the banks that we need to worry about. It is all fictitious entities acting as people. Or, even more pernicious, acting with more power than 100 people.
For example, The Constitution was expressly written with checks and balances in mind . Also, it implicitly disallows foreign presidents and foreign contributions due to the conflict of special interests.
isn't it essential, then, to bind the businesses from becoming government? What about that special interest?
We already deny the receipt of any funds or gifts from any foreigner. why not simply also deny receiving money from companies, period?
this would not end lobby, as it shouldn't.
If, in a democratic society 1 person equals 1 vote, isn't it obvious that fictitious businesses should not be allowed to vote? Or that CEO's should not be allowed to use their fictitious business as a work around to democracy?
if a company cannot survive
if a company cannot survive without filling the pockets of our legislators, then they deserve to be out of business.
and we deserve it.
You don't think that any
You don't think that any good has come from businesses lobbying government?
I can't answer that.
Isn't it easier for us to see who has contributed and to whom?

The Missing Thirteenth Amendment reentered.
"Titles of nobility"
If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive or retain any title of nobility or honour, or shall, without the consent of Congress, accept and retain any present, pension, office or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them.
Actually this can be ratified again. There was never a time limit put on it.

NO Con Con. Just an
NO Con Con. Just an investigation to declare that all Amendments past the 13th Amendment have been UnConstituionally Ratified and are therefore Null and Void, revoked, and therefore all US Codes only apply to the residents of Washington DC.
And while they are at it, Declare the Constitution Null and Void, and return to the Articles of Confederation, since the Law in effect at the time of the Constitution's ratification required ALL states to ratify but it was instead declared ratified when only 9 of 13 had accepted it.

A total of 70 delegates were appointed to attend, some refused. Among those (who did NOT attend) were Patrick Henry, John Hancock, John Adams, Samuel Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
Why did only 39 of the 55 attending delegates sign. Thanks Madison, ....you wanted big government...we got it.

Quiltingsando----I have bad news.
You know when you called your rep about not supporting the bailout? Well. . . that's lobbying.

Well that was the
first time I ever called and I don't slip them favors or money. I would be willing to not call again if they would keep their distance too. Those people get elected on a particular platform of ideas and lobbyists interfere with the process. Maybe, we would get better representation if the elected officials would read the bills and really discuss them rather than follow the smell of money and power. Thanks Mike for the prospective maybe we should go with writing on a blackboard I will not contact elected officials one hundred times.

Amendment 32 - 1:15 PM CST - Congresional Term Limits
"All elected representatives from the several states and appointed Senators (assuming the 17th is repealed) are hereby limited to serving a total of 2 terms in office."
This is just a rough draft, the intent is to eliminate career politicians. One man can serve 2 terms in the house, 2 terms in the Senate, and 2 terms as President if elected or lawfully appointed to all of these offices, but no more.
