Democracy

In other words mob rule, it amazes me how people are brainwashed into thinking that this country was always a Democracy. Personally I want to know who declared the country a Democracy and their motives. This government may have accepted Democracy as a de facto government. Hence the outright perversion of the Constitutional Republic, on a side note- it would be interesting to gauge a national poll on how many people believe in a Democracy or a Republic.

"It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong" - Voltaire

" Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. " - George Washington

According to your logic...

if someone calls himself a Republican he is therefore a representative of a republican form of government.

You should learn about democracy from the true democrats:

Democarcy is Tyranny of the Masses...

Which is why we were designed to be a Constitutionaly restrained REPUBLIC! Democracy doesn't protect the rights of Individuals..It destroys them by Popular Demand!

So What?

The problem with government is not the form of democracy, it is the power wielded over individual freedoms.

How would DR stop the majority from enslaving the minority? How would it stop special interest groups from dominating the government? How would it prevent the banks from owning the government?

Democracy by any name or arrangement is based on an immoral principle - that your life, your property, and your freedom do not belong to you. They belong to the majority of your countrymen and they can take them from you at will because it pleases them. It is wrong.

The only possible answer to governing a free society is a government with strictly limited powers and harsh, self-enforcing penalties for anyone who deviates from, or even attempts to legislatively lift, the limitations. And even that will probably not work.

I reject the tyranny of the majority.

We don't need more democracy, we need LESS!

Direct Representation Is Immune To Corruption

Politicians would immediately lose their votes if they did a bait-and-switch.

Why do you think the majority would be tyrannical? Our voting system forces people into harmful coalitions. People aren't given the choice to vote in a variety of ways. For example, we must have abortion on demand if we want and end to capital punishment.

No

I'm not talking about bait and switch. I am talking about subsidies. I am talking about price controls. I am talking about one faction increasing taxes on another faction. I am talking about all the things that happen in our degraded Republic now.

A majority would by tyrannical because it is PROFITABLE!!!! If I you give one faction the power to enslave another, it will! How does your system prevent that?

And why would your system prevent corruption? Why would a representative not take huge campaign contributions in exchange for votes?

Thought Provoking

From the article: "Democracy is universally held up as the sacred political ideal. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that democracy is a secular religion. Observe: We fight wars for it (”Making the world safe for democracy”). We are implored to blindly participate in it (”It doesn’t matter who you vote for, just vote”). And most tellingly, it is taboo to question it. Anyone who claims that democracy is bad is likely to be labeled a Nazi. (Even though Hitler was democratically elected and much of Nazism was promoted with democratic rhetoric.)"

"Nevertheless, I will attempt to prove that democracy is one of the worst political ideologies, on par with dictatorship and communism."

That's generally how I feel about Democracy. The worst case scenario for freedom would be "total democracy" where everyone gets to vote to decide everything. Individualism would die. I'm a fan of severely limited democracy, which I assume is called a Republic?

BTW The article advocates not voting. What if you have the option to vote for Ron Paul? Would you still abstain from voting?

Register as Republican and Vote for Ron Paul

Don't Let The Politicians Define Democracy

Democracy means one man/one vote, proxy voting, instant recall and no political class. What politician has ever advocated that?

Hitler didn't receive a majority. He seized power.

You should learn about direct representation. It's what democracy really looks like.

Good libertarian analysis of democracy

Ha! Good rip on the sacred cow called democracy. The 'democratically elected rulers' have no clothes!

It's really outrageous how the idea of democracy commands so much respect. It is totally immoral and absolutely despicable.

p.s. this also applies to republics, which are just a type of democracy
