Using modern astronomy software we can see what the sky looked like 2000 years ago. On June 17, 2 BC Jupiter (king planet) and Venus (mother planet) touched each other. Forming the brightest star.

The Hebrew calendar follows the moon and the Gregorian calendar follows the sun. That makes both calendars inconsistent with each other. This finding is from a very good documentary I watched. I had to see the star charts for myself and sure enough it's really true. Check it out...

If you go back exactly 9 months you will see the sign of revelation chapter 12. Sept of 3 BC. " And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, " The moon was a crescent moon which signifies a new month.

Have you ever actually read the Bible? Or do you just kinda guess based on what you've heard? I used to do the same thing and was asked the same question. I have read the Bible and studied many different interpretations of it. It is just a book. It is not sacred. It is designed to point an individual in a certain direction. The individual is encouraged to use the metaphors and symbols contained in the book to turn inward, toward an experience beyond words, a SACRED experience. This is what makes the Bible valuable. Without the turning inward, it is simply an instruction manual. Making a book sacred is unwise and will always lead to battles over the interpretations of metaphors and language. That is not the purpose of this book.

believe they are reacting to the misinterpretations of some very vocal Christians. They despise the hypocrisy. Most of us have never been taught to explore and experience mythology. This lack of understanding is relatively new. If we don't know how or don't have permission to experience the sacred, the "sacred" books appear dead. Just like an instruction manual. Some try to "worship" the book back to life. Doesn't work and produces a stale church. A church that loses its youth. This is why you are seeing a resurgence in Shamanism and Pagan religions. They are stressing the sacred experience and creating a connection between the individual and source. Jesus made this very clear when he went into the desert alone, without a "bible" and turned inward. He had a sacred experience. Christianity has an amazing and rich mystical history. It is making a come back. Monks like Father Keating are introducing Centering Prayer and other tools to help Christians move beyond dogma and experience their faith. I ran into Fr. Keating at 4 AM on a cold morning in a monastery deep in the Colorado Mts. He is a Christian and a mystic. A symbol for the future church.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this is just one more proposed "finding" of the Star of Bethlehem that doesn't meet the Biblical criteria.
First, we all agree that the Biblical use of ancient language here allows STAR to mean any heavenly light other than the Sun or Moon. The theory postulated in this thread supposes it means a conjunction of two planets, hence an event rather than a thing.
Now, READING THE TEXT, we find that the Magi FOLLOWED the star, for a period of at least weeks. We find that it stopped over the house where Jesus was, indicating the specific house. We find that Jesus and his family were now living in a HOUSE, not the stable. We find that Herod instructed the Magi to tell him where they found Jesus, and when they did not, he had every boy in Bethlehem under the age of 2 killed.
From this we deduce that the STAR was not an astral body or a planet, but a light much closer to earth, more like the pillar of fire that led the Israelites, in that it moved ahead of the Magi over an extended period, and was close enough to Earth to indicate the specific location at which to stop. We also know that the Magi do not belong in the manger scene, and must have shown up a year or more after Jesus' birth.
Joseph and Mary moved to Egypt immediately after the visit by the Magi, and we understand that He was about two years old at the time.
The STAR OF BETHLEHEM has nothing to do with astronomy. It was a special emissary from God, and will not be found in ancient astronomical texts.

There are more signs than these... It is believed that the day of the cross was on April 3, 33 AD. If you look at the star charts for that day you will see a lunar eclipse happened at exactly 3:00pm also known as the 9th hour. The eclipse happened in the heart of the constellation of Aries.

Whats probably more relevant to the thread tho, is that Bible scholars generally agree that this "star" of Bethlehem was in fact a retinue of angels heralding the birth of Emmanuel (God with us)- doubt THAT would show up in a star chart : )
